My family and I attended an event at this venue, and what should have been a fun, memorable experience turned into one of the most upsetting and unprofessional situations we have ever dealt with. Moments before Silverstein was about to take the stage, a female employee aggressively confronted us without warning. There was no polite request, no conversation--just sudden hostility and yelling. The supposed "issue"? My six-year-old daughter was on my shoulders while we were standing OFF TO THE SIDE, near the handrail, purposely away from the center so we wouldn't block anyone. We had already watched three bands this way for over two hours without a single problem. No one around us ever complained--quite the opposite. Many people were excited to see a child enjoying her first concert and told us how awesome it was. People were smiling, cheering her on, and taking photos of how much fun she was having. When this employee stormed over and started yelling aggressively, several concertgoers immediately spoke up for us. They told her clearly that my daughter wasn't bothering anyone, wasn't blocking anyone's view, and was just a little kid enjoying the moment. Instead of listening--or acting like a professional--the staff member told these guests to mind their fing business*, loudly and aggressively, right in front of my daughter. My daughter burst into tears instantly. She was terrified and confused and kept saying she didn't understand what she did wrong. This altercation absolutely devastated her, and no six-year-old should ever be treated like that at what should have been a joyful experience. We supported the venue fully--we bought tickets, we purchased food and drinks, and we even paid to have our jackets stored in their cubbies. Despite all that, we were treated with nothing but disrespect and hostility. After being forced to leave the show entirely, I spoke to the young woman at the front desk. She told me directly that this has never been an issue in the past. When I asked to speak with someone in charge, they sent the exact same female security employee who had yelled at us. She walked up smiling--as if she was proud of the altercation or pleased with herself for causing such distress. It was disturbing and completely inappropriate. I later spoke with the General Manager hoping there would finally be some accountability. Instead, he acted as if he didn't believe what happened. He even stated that it was "impossible to post rules or regulations for their events--they just deal with problems as they happen." That attitude alone demonstrates the lack of structure, consistency, or professionalism at this venue. Despite multiple witnesses trying to defend us earlier, he dismissed nearly everything. In the end, he simply pushed a refund at us like that would somehow erase the harm done. A refund does NOT fix this. A refund does NOT erase my daughter's fear and heartbreak. A refund does NOT change the unprofessional, hostile behavior of the staff. In a blind effort to find answers--knowing full well the band was not responsible for the venue's actions--we contacted the band's management. Shockingly, the band's manager responded to us before the venue ever did. That alone says everything about who actually cares about their fans. It says even more that other concertgoers showed more empathy, common sense, and integrity than the venue's own staff and management. I hope this review helps other families understand the type of treatment they may face here. No child should ever leave their first concert crying because of a staff member's deliberate hostility. If the venue cannot handle enforcing rules respectfully, cannot create a safe and welcoming environment for all ages as they advertise, and cannot treat paying customers with basic human decency, then something is seriously wrong with how they operate. read more

Never been in the pit before. I'm an old dog and we stood for four hours watching and the wait before the show. Tuff but worth the closeness. I'm renting a chair next time if available. Didn't have any food- just a few drinks. Pretty good view no matter where you sit or stand. We had to stand up the whole time upstairs but had a wide wood bar though to rest our stuff on. They really crack down on ADA seating even if there are no ada's there (elbow in a Velcro kinda sling was qualified though hmmm a little food for thought just kidding) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I've never been more disappointed in a venue. My family and I went to the Citizen Soldier concert tonight at the Knitting Factory in Boise. This was my 13-year-old sister's first concert ever -- and one of the staff members ruined it for her. While my mom and I stepped away to buy a drink, my sister sat on the floor for literally two minutes after standing from 7-9PM (she wasn't even in the walk way). Instead of this staff member telling her to get up, this staff member chose to YELL at her. Not just talk -- yell. And told an obvious looking minor to go sit at the bar. The result? My little sister ended up bawling and having a full-on panic attack in the middle of a concert that was supposed to be about mental health awareness. That one staff member's lack of compassion and professionalism completely destroyed what should have been an impactful, memorable first experience. It is absolutely unacceptable for a grown adult representing a venue to bully a 13-year-old child like that. Knitting Factory, you need to address this. No child (or anyone, for that matter) deserves to be treated this way. The manager tonight didn't even come up to apologize. Was at the Drake Milligan concert last night. The most horrible sound system I've ever heard. Pumped up drums and bass drowned out virtually all the rest of the instruments as well as Drake's singing. Several times there was actually feedback thru the system. I haven't heard a professional concert system feedback squeal since the 70's. Based on what we heard, this venue is OFF our list. Dreadful!! read more

I like this venue. It is super small which makes it super awesome. We got to see Pink Sweats concert here and it was great. We sat up in the balcony and had a great view! If you buy general then you are downstairs and standing the whole time so that wouldn't be as fun depending on what kind of time you are wanting. All the balcony seats seem to have a good view. The sound system and lightening was average but really wasn't expecting too much with that. It definitely could use a better cocktail menu. Everything said like pure sugar syrup with no alcohol. Honestly, I don't think people know what a special venue we have here in Boise. I have lived in Vegas for a few years and Denver for some time and after experiencing drink prices, ticket prices, and shoulder to shoulder to butt standing, we are so lucky! Yes, drinks are pricey but not as much as normal music halls. Go get dinner and drinks before the show, that will help cut down on a bit of the cost of wanting to drink in the venue. There are some great places a hop away with awesome happy hours! Have three or four, it's happy hour! Don't do coat check, leave it in the car. I always think 3 minutes of suffering in the cold is worth the freedom in the music hall. Yes, you can coat check but I am sure you have to wait in line and pay. This venue is pretty rad. Get there early and get a prime spot. If you don't want to do your time of waiting, yes, you may get a spot that is less desirable. However, even the least desirable spot at this venue is far better than a show in Denver or Vegas or a larger city for that matter. We are so lucky. 95% of the time I am right at the stage with the band. Sometimes I show up 15 minutes before start, I walk right to the stage and I hold my ground the whole time. Pure music joy no matter where I am at. Next, the price of the bands! I am blown away by how awesome the costs are. I often get to go to a show here for $20.00- $30.00 when in other cities, the price is triple and is sold out in 3 minutes. We get some pretty dankly awesome artists and sometimes the venue is half full. Score!! My only complaint and the reason this is 4 stars. Their bathrooms are pretty bad. Stalls doors don't work, toilets spray, and they are often horribly trashed, oh and there's only 3 stalls for a few hundred people. Plan to wait, always. Yes, while this venue is not perfect and drinks will cost you a few extra dollars, just know the outrageously affordable ticket to actually see most bands is worth the trade-off! For me at least! This place is a joke. They only care about separating you from your money. They over sell tickets, and have closed the bar upstairs. They have done things such as let our card be skimmed, without disciplining their staff for stealing, we discovered it the next day by checking our statement. They have began charging people to sit at a table if they need to rest. They allow the security to be disrespectful to the customers. They literally have the worst security and can't even manage the metal detectors in an effective and timely manner, guaranteeing that if you have tickets, like we did, that you miss at least a third of the show and we showed up an hour early. I love all of the bands that come to the Knitting Factory, but the experience I had here the other night was crazy. My friend and I bought tickets to an 18+ concert. We got to the door, she scanned our ID's and we got I just fine. My ID is on my phone, but the lady at the gates accepted it (this is important later). My friend and I go inside of the venue and everything is fine. We needed to use the restroom but the bathrooms downstairs are full. Since I've been to the knitting Factory before, I knew that there were bathrooms upstairs that we could use. My friend also smelled the food so she wanted to see if she could get anything upstairs to eat. We head upstairs, and we're stopped by a kid who works there. My friend asks him where we she can buy some food, and I try to head to the bathroom. He apologizes and lets us know that the upstairs area is only VIP access today, and that we need a wrist band to enter that area. Since I know that people 21+ usually get wrist bands (we are 20), I just apologize to him and let him know we will head downstairs. He tells us again that we need a wristband to be in here.... So I let him know "yeah we'll just go downstairs. Instead, he says he has to escort us out of the building??? I get confused because we clearly have "X's" drawn on our hands as they always do for people under drinking age. I tell him "what? We never got a wrist band at the door" and he says "ALL guests need a wrist band". The knitting factory always has new workers there so it's getting clear that the kid doesn't know that only 21+ gets a wrist band, and he's under the impression everyone needed one. All of a sudden a lady comes and intervenes and asks what's going on. I explain to her that the kid says we need a wrist band so he's kicking us out for not having one. The kid walks away and the lady asks for our ID. My friend shows her hers and I let the lady know mines on my phone. The lady says "we can't accept that ID I'm going to have to ask you to leave". WHAT?! I let her know I paid for my ticket, and they accepted my ID at the door. She kicks us out SPECIFICALLY for not having a wrist band. She says "everyone needs a wrist band to be in here, since you don't have your ID you need to leave". She said I had to go and get my physical ID in order to be allowed in. I don't live in Boise so I drove sn hour total back home, and back to the knitting factory. We get back to the door, they check our ID's and guess what we don't get.... A WRIST BAND BECAUSE WE ARENT 21!!! The "manager" is arguing and refusing to listen to me as I try to explain her the reason we didn't have a wrist band in the first place Is because we aren't 21!!!! So she made us miss HALF of the show, wasted my time getting that ID in order to "get a wrist band" just to tell me that only 21+ gets a wrist band. I already knew that! Had she listened to me in the first place she would've known we were 20 and didn't need a wrist band. She started raising her voice at me because I was obviously upset. Of course I was upset, I missed half of the concert I've been waiting to see!!! She was getting so worked up I literally had to ask her to speak a little kinder. She was treating me like I was trying to be deceitful and intentionally "break their rules" when it was their staffs fault in the first place for not understanding their own policies. My whole night and experience was tainted because of this interaction. She was speaking to me very condescending and wouldn't let me get any words in. The craziest part about this all is that I RAN INTO A 17 YEAR OLD AT THE SHOW!!!!! So the whole time she was focused on being a hero and stopping me from getting into this show (even though I'm a 20 year old adult), a literal high-school student got into this 18+ show. In the end my experience with this concert was cut short, and tainted badly because of my interaction with this staff member. It's not hard to be kind and have people skills when dealing with customers. Had she told me politely and apologetically that I needed a physical ID to enter, I wouldn't have felt frustrated at all! It was the fact that she was was treating me like I did all of this on purpose, and wanted to deceive and trick the staff. I just wanted to enjoy my artist and concert. read more

They used an EXPO marker instead of a PERMANENT marker to put x's on my boyfriends hands showing he was under 21 and when he barely rinsed his hands in the bathroom they kicked him out because the x's were halfway rinsed off. Went to Matisyahu concert and was so impressed by the staff. I injured my ankle the week before the concert and was reluctantly still on crutches. The staff were super helpful and even kind about how stupidly slow I was. I wish I had the names of the 3 staff members that super helpful to give a shout-out to but of course you never think of that in the moment. I adore small intimate funky venues! Knitting factory is my favorite small Boise venue. I always find a good spot with a great view of the stage. I was here Saturday and a person in my party pregamed a bit too much. The security gal was very professional. She put X's on his hands and informed him that he could not drink inside. She really did try to give him a chance to get in, but he was not able to follow any instructions. Oops. This person ended up being asked to leave while in the VIP line. The security gal never lost her cool. She was very neutral and not aggressive or agitated. I was very impressed with her professionalism. She navigated through this situation without raising her voice. It made an embarrassing situation, less embarrassing as she acted quickly once she realized this person was not going to make it inside. The person in my party was harmless. Just super intoxicated. I asked the staff if I was able to give this person's VIP ticket to another gentleman who had a gf with VIP tickets but he did not have one. And it was allowed. I was happy the ticket did not go to waste and the couple to be together for the meet and greet. When we got inside, all of the staff I interacted with were great. We had a good time! We will definitely be back. And this time we will mind our manners! read more

I flew up from SLC to see my son's band play tonight. I wanted to take some band photos and the staff was very accommodating in supplying me with a media pass. Trust me. This is not normal. I can't say enough about how great the staff is at trying to make things work for the customers. While waiting for my media pass I saw several examples of them going out of their way to make accommodations for customers needs. Yeah, there's always some entitled twit who's going to complain, but face it, it's a complex world we live in. Great night but mostly because of the hard work of the staff. I'm an old guy and I've been around this scene for a long time. This staff is top notch. I now know why The Knit is so loved by the bands that play here. I had a pretty decent time at this venue. One thing that really bothered me is the fact that they take the water bottle caps from people when they buy one. Woman have a hard enough time watching/waiting to be drugged! I think it's irresponsible to give men another option to put something in an open water bottle. We have to walk around with our cups covered as is. The bartender told me that the small caps can be used as a weapon. They have beer cans/chairs/tables and many other items that are or can be dangerous... but a small bottle cap?! read more

Went with the VIP lounge, it is well worth the extra $ to get decent seats and not be in the middle of a crowd of hipsters. I would definitely do the VIP lounge again. The acoustics of the space are excellent, although a band would need to be careful to tube their instruments correctly to not drown out the lyrics. read more

Employee came over and told us to move..not asked...told... apparently that's special reserve seating for the elite unless as you can see by the sign you pay extra.Then I was told I couldn't stand anywhere in the seating area either..so.. I moved back to my table..only to be followed by the same employee who told my I couldn't stand next to my table (which was partially behind a wall so you couldn't see the stage) as it was a fire lane. .Really?...I have gone to the one in Spokane for years. Great venue! Came her to see an artist that we love and we were so excited to see he was playing in Boise. This is a great venue. Not to small where tou can't move around but small enough to be close to the action. The staff was super nice from the get go and they were very efficient getting everyone in the door. This was great since it was raining. We had general admission tickets and it was already packed when we got there so we were stuck in the back. My one complaint (which has nothing to do with the venue itself) is that there are A LOT of college students acting like college students. We saw 3-4 people being carried out for having a few too many drinks. So be prepared for that! I am sure this changes depending on who is performing. I've been coming to the knit for years. It has it's pros and cons however as a concert venue it really does the job. Are drinks over priced? Heck yeah, they are in the business of making money. If you're there to have a good time it won't matter. I absolutely love how close you are to the stage. The majority of shows I've ever seen are standing room general admission. Most shows do now give opportunity to purchase VIP seats up on the balcony. The rock and metal shows can get crazy with people pushing and shoving, expect to get beer spilt on you. The staff has always been 100% cool and seem to be reasonable in doing their job to protect everyone in such close quarters. Shows are typically all ages and full bar with I.D. They also have a full menu of food you can order. If you haven't been to a show its a must go. It's in the middle of downtown so expect to pay to park unless you use a ride share. read more

I really like this venue. Went to the Casey Donahew concert with a big group of friends. The drinks are over priced but we expected that, the bartenders were so awesome that night. I never had to wait and she had all our drinks memorized, she'd see me in line and once I got to the counter they were ready. The sound quality of the show was amazing. If you want to be nickel and dimed to death by sleazy management, this is the place to see a show. Waiting in line for tickets to a recent show, we noticed that the girl at the ticket window was giving evil glares of death to every ticket buyer in front of us and talking to every single one of them with contempt and a hostile demeanor. As soon as we got to the window, we found out why-- the Boise Knitting Factory was charging what amounted to a 30% "ticket fee" for tickets purchased at the box office. Literally every single customer was surprised by this and rightfully complained. The problem is Boise Knit management chooses not to disclose their box office "ticket fee" anywhere on their calendar, website, ticket pricing, etc. You only find out when you get to the window and they have it displayed on a dry-erase board. If literally every single one of your customers is surprised by a bullshit "ticket fee" when they get to your box office (and complains), then you (Boise Knitting Factory shitheelmanagement) are doing something wrong. The problem is not with your customers, the problem is with you intentionally misleading them and trying to nickel and dime them. I've never of a "ticket fee" being charged at a box office, only online or through a third party ticket seller. And apparently neither had just about every single one of the other people who bought a ticket at the box office that night. It's really simple to be honest with your customers and list the true ticket price on your website or disclose your "ticket fees" on your website. But since the Boise Knit management apparently comes from the school of used car sales douchebaggery, they choose to do neither. Beyond the box office price gouging, drinks at the Knit are the most expensive at any music venue or club in town. But they are far from the best or strongest. Wow some people are so uptight about this place. My friend got us 2 tickets (VIP seating/access) for the Drive-By Truckers. We had great seats over looking the stage and the standing room/general admission area below. The service was excellent (we had a dedicated server in our section), maybe even too good as we both were slightly over indulged when we left (but just walked a few blocks to my hotel). We took turns going down stairs to mingle and I didn't find there to be an issue manuvering through the crowd. Maybe the venues I have frequented outside of Boise are shitty and relatively speaking this is on the same level, but I doubt it. I have definitely been to worse and I have been to better, but over all I enjoyed my concert experience here and would easily do it again. read more
