My friend bought two tickets and couldn't make it to town. I purchased them from him and had pictures of his ID card and card used to purchase them to enter the show. Thomas at the door wouldn't let my friend and I in. Said physical cards are required for entry. I understand that but after my friend messaged Neurolux on Instagram and they said it wouldn't be an issue and talk to Allen if there's issues.... this is a bit confusing as it's conflicting information.... The Location: It is located in Downtown Boise, near the intersection of W Idaho St and S 11th St. Parking looks relatively easy to find. The People: Staff and bartenders are good. The Drinks: - Rum and Coke: A solid strong drink. - Water: It is free, self-serve, stay hydrated. The Venue: - I came on a Wednesday to see a live music show. New upcoming Alternative band, Gypsy Temple, was playing. The show was absolutely amazing! Way better than I expected. The band was amazing, and I think the venue set up the event pretty well. - There are two areas, the main area with the bar and a bunch of seating, and a smaller more private area with a pool table for only $1 a game (ask for quarters if you don't have them). Upshot: Neurolux is a solid spot to hang out on a Wednesday. I would most definitely have to check it out on other days too. read more

Terrible experience. the staff treats you like garbage unless you are gay or transgender. got cut off after 2 beers because the big bartender woman was upset. Have lived in Boise for 25 years and have never been to an establishment that treated me worse. very unwelcoming enviroment and would absolutely not recommend. This inconspicuous little joint is probably my favorite show venue in Boise. I've come here on numerous occasions with friends to catch a show and it has always been a good time. There is a little patio outside where folks can step out and have a smoke (not my jam, but hey, it's available for those who need it). Upon walking in, there is a room to the right with plenty of seating, to the left is a bar, and at the back of the venue are a few booths, standing tables, dance floor and a stage. The cover price varies depending on the show. I've come here and paid as low as $10, and as high as $35. Drinks are comparable to other bars in the area, and the vibe is fun and quirky. The bar scene isn't really my thing, so I wouldn't come here just for the heck of it unless there was a show I wanted to see--in which case, this place is my favorite spot in Boise for that sort of thing! read more

I stumbled into Neurolux after driving up through Southern Idaho from Salt Lake City. It provides a decent performance space and well-stocked bar, replete with Olympia and Pabst. I had an ouzo on the rocks, as you do when spending time in Boise. The service was remarkably efficient and respectful. In fact, the bartender had the appearance and demeanor of a young Anthony Hopkins. I sat in silence for several hours, watching the locals play sudoku on the bar and drink themselves to oblivion--cigars and cigarettes belching blue clouds of smoke into the air. I suppose my decision to play The Smiths' "This Night has Opened My Eyes" wasn't in keeping with the general timbre of the establishment, but Roxy Music went down well. I suppose I'd return to Neurolux if I ever find myself back in Boise...but I waver. read more

What a great music venue...Now I unfortunately did not get to go to a show here but I stopped by mid afternoon and was happy to see folks outside smoking so I wanted to check the place out and have a beer! The space is rad and reminds me a lot of my great hometown music venue the Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines.. I like how the stage is not to high and the sound system is big enough to pack a good punch! There were a few regulars in mid afternoon enjoying a beer, with me! I thought it was a bit funny they left the door open when it was like 17 degrees out, but hey I like a cold beer when I can see my breath! The gal bartender was very nice and after I asked for something local she suggested a brew (which I forgot the name of) but it was great! I really dig the space, I like how they have an outdoor area for hanging out and that they are open even when a show is not going! I've slowly but surely fell in love with this place. 1st they had me with their bloody's (Barb makes THE BEST) & then it simply become my go-to spot on the good days & the hard days because the crowd is so chill, so local, & just all around good vibes. LOVE the juke box..... it's old school & has great music. I know they have a lot of live music but I typically avoid it because I enjoy a more relaxed atmospher at Neurolux- sitting at the bar & chillin. Feb. 12, 2015 was my first visit to Neurolux. I came to see a show-- Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons. I hesitated at first, because it was a Thursday night and I wasn't up for a crowded, cramped scene. The only input I had on this place was from my sister who said it was a good place to catch a show and see an artist up close. I gotta agree with my sister. It's an "intimate" place, but not cramped or claustrophobic. It's loud, but it's a rock show. I haven't had a problem finding a seat, although I suppose that changes with the amount of people. Sound quality is good, better than the Revolution Concert Hall, the only other indoor place I've caught a show in Boise, so far. The bartenders are efficient. Too loud and not appropriate for small talk, although before the show, both bartenders seemed friendly and helpful. They're impressively good, considering I can't hear myself talk-- they are obviously experienced at reading lips and/or serving in a loud environment. I'd come here again, for sure. read more

It's hard to complain about a place that gives each member of your band FOUR drink tickets which can all be used for top shelf liquor. What truly irks me about this place isn't the sound, isn't the long hall design full of tables - no, what bothers me is their curfew. 11pm? Really? Am I in Salt Lake City? I've heard that there's some meant lawyer that lives across the street that has made it his mission to shut down the place if the noise level continues past that hour but seriously - can't there be a counter-mission? Why can't there be a fundraiser, an angry mob - SOMETHING to stop this guy from continuing his Footloose-esque tired upon the helpless denizens of Boise? There are a lot of things I like about the Neurolux. It's dark, which makes me look good to others. The drinks are stiff and reasonably priced, which helps me to continue looking good to others. The acoustics are highly appropriate for lo-fi music which is great because I really like their concert lineup. Lately, I've attended (but have not performed yet, and probably never will) the karaoke Fridays and I really like that the people who get up to sing tend to stay away from those classic karaoke tunes. It's much less intimidating than the crowd of pros at the 44 Club, it's much less vanilla than Old Chicago, and it's a lot of fun. I used to spend hot summer nights on their porch, where there is cocktail lady service and no entry fee if there's a band. It was a great escape from my AC-free second floor apartment. In my bike travels around town at night I've noticed it's been really crowded lately because no one can smoke inside, so that might change my summertime habits. Speaking of smoking, is anyone else a little put off by the lack of smoke in there now? Never realized how much that added to the atmosphere until the ban...you don't know what you've got til it's gone. read more

For some unfathomable reason, about a year or two ago the moron who owns this joint thought it would be a great idea to get rid of a perfectly effective and purposeful website that listed every upcoming event (karaoke, live music, DJ, etc) months in advance. And replace it with the worst fucking bar/venue website in town (possibly in the entire PNW). A replacement website that does not ever show DJ's or karaoke or even the majority of their live music events. A website that doesn't even even show (on the day of) which major band is playing that night! Genius idea, idiot-- nearly 30 years after the invention of the internet, why don't you make it nearly to literally impossible to find out in advance what's going on at your live music and DJ venue and literally impossible to find out who's playing the day of a show. I'm no hipster, but we go to this place about once a month for the Boise Poetry Slam, believe me, my wife & I are typically the oldest in the joint whenever we're there. I like the place for what it is. They have a good bar, a good stage, and good service. They also have a nice patio. This place seems to be more of a music venue / hipster bar. It has more of an eclectic following & is Boise's hangout for the creative crowd. read more

Retro, hipster, divey- no matter the word you use to describe the Neurolux, it is pretty rad. I have seen a few wonderful bands here. They do pour a stiff drink. My fave is a Bloody Mary or a vodka drink. Drinks are affordable. Not a fan of their patio for some reason. Maybe because it is always swarming with tons of people and I have never gotten to sit out there. (I visit during the busy hours.) Maybe I am jealous. Night I walked by I almost missed it. Didn't have the Boise State co-ed crew stumbling in and out like the rest of the "downtown" bars. An "older" Grateful Dead/Bob Marley/Spoon group had their groove going onstage, and there were maybe 10 people in the whole joint. No cover. Cheap drafts. But as another poster said, better the lighting is dim, cause it ain't real clean. Kind of the way I like it. Unpretentious. Friendly enough bartender couple. Good place for groups or couples looking for something outside the swinging single scene. read more

1st time customers. So I read reviews about staff being jerks. The door guy taking our cash was very nice. Letting all the locals know what was happening at the venue for the week. The bartender was very friendly to me. The band even dedicated a song to her. (Probably because they wanted to butter her up for more beverages) the venue sounded awesome as a spectator. Very dark but I like it that way. Lots of chairs. Booths wrap around the venue. Clean bathrooms, Pool table and pinball. The venue is not cramp and had plenty of space. ÖUsed to frequent every night about 3 years ago for many many years prior. I recently started going back for the ping pong and to reminsis. I was passing by and and stopped in because I lost a sentimental piece of clothing there and also saw a another 15 year regular there so I came in for a tune up. I say hi and ask about my misplaced item and the female bartender with the a name that starts with a v was incredibly snotty and up her own ass towards me because ( and this is just a guess it could be she's just a b****) she did not recognize me as a regular. I was really friendly and tried to introduce myself by saying "hi my name is Nathan" and she kept her back turned to me and mumbled nice to meet you under her breath while texting. After a long long awkward pause I asked her what her name was and with insanely obvious reluctance mumbled a name that I think started with a v again under her breath pushing me to say hey it's all good.... you don't have to talk to me if you don't want to which she replied "oh good ok that's good". so I quickly went and sat next to the pinball machines drink my beer in about two minutes and then left. I'm not going to elaborate about when I asked about my black armband with a Misfits skull on it and how she acted like she was confused about my question saying she didn't know what an armband is and adding that she thinks I mean to say sweatband and other snooty shit that happened. But to be honest it was that way when I first started going there almost 17 years ago when it was really clicky and I was only 22. it just felt weird seeing a bartender I've never seen before treating me like a bum when I used to almost basically live there .. really though I think if it was the very first time I've ever been into that bar I still would have felt incredibly unwelcome and put off. read more

I would give you more stars, but you need to hire new bartenders. I came to watch Chasity Belt perform a month ago and my friend and I were getting drinks before the show started. The bartender didnt look me in the eye once and was very short with us. She acted as though we were a nuisance rather than appreciative that we were patrons. Was it because we didnt have enough tattoos? or are you racist (i have tan skin)? Is my outfit not "nerolux" enough? No matter what your deal is, a customer should NEVER have these questions running through their head. I came back to get our second round of drinks and she gave me so much attitude for no reason. Fortunately, the show was good and the waitress who came to my table to ask if I wanted another drink was quite sweet. But holy shit...the female bartender behind the bar was rude for no damn reason. Quite possibly the best bar in town, right up there w Penguilleys which happens to have same owner go figure that explains the doubly awesomeness of the former's latter, respectively. All the bartenders are straight shooters resvectibal like folk. The one they call the EJ is kinda handsome for a feller. The regulars are a real nice bunch as well.
