From the vintage cigarette machine by the door to the classic pool table, every corner of the saloon radiates character and charm. The history here is fascinating--it originally served as a grocery store before transitioning into the Stockman's Pastime Bar in the 70s, eventually becoming the Pengilly's we know and love in 1976. That legacy is felt in the soul of the building. The service is consistently excellent. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, making every visit a great experience. Whether I'm ordering a Sex on the Beach or sticking to a Shirley Temple when I'm the designated driver, the drinks are always spot on. My fiancé usually goes for a double Jack and Coke, and we always have a fantastic time soaking in the live music performed by talented local artists. And some of the most cringe songs available. You walk in and immediately feel like you're in a ratchet sleezeball zone. The music makes you feel like prey, the games are predatory in pricing (displays 5.4 credit cost when it's 32), the crowd might not be a bunch of horn-dogs but can we stop playing middle school dance grind music? Makes the guys there cringe, like they are all there yearning for a crumb while scantily clad waitresses walk around while raunchy 00s sex rap plays, can't imagine the discomfort. The prizes in one of the machines are a bunch of dildos? Grow up. Play some respectable music and fit the vibe of what could be a great club. And on one of the most popular streets in Boise? Yikes.

Because those were their remaining vacation hours, we chose this show over another concert the following week, assuming we'd at least get to see the artist we had planned for. When we arrived, we were completely confused. Instead of the electronic DJ So Down, there was band called So Down Boise playing. We actually stayed for a while because we thought maybe the DJ was still going to perform later. Eventually it became clear that the artist we had paid to see wasn't there at all. I understand that mistakes happen. But when a venue advertises or sells tickets for the wrong artist, the right thing to do is make it right. We didn't stay for the show because it wasn't the event we purchased tickets for, yet we were told we couldn't even get a refund. At that point, it wasn't about the $14 ticket. It was about the gas, the hotel, the time, and the vacation hours that were used for a concert that never happened. We put our home renovation projects on hold to make the trip. It doesn't sound like much but we literally had photos scheduled the following day for the sale of our home. Had we known the advertised artist wasn't actually performing, we would have skipped this event and gone to the show the following week instead. Instead, we ended up missing both. A simple apology and a refund would have gone a long way. Instead, we were left feeling like no one cared that we had spent our time and money on an event that wasn't what was advertised. That's incredibly disappointing and not how customers should be treated.

My wife and I were excited to check it out-we love drag queens. The first night, we arrived about 30 minutes after the show began and found that it was jam packed. We were standing back by the bar and had very limited visibility to the stage. After about 40 minutes of not being able to see, we left. But we returned the next day, much earlier, and were able to stand closer to the stage. People are respectful of each other and welcoming to all. I appreciate that the emcee (I forget her name) made it a point to welcome people who were drinking alcohol as well as those that wanted non-alcoholic options, which the bar offers. I appreciate that. She also reminded everyone about consent-specifically about taking picture and video, which was sadly ignored by some patrons. But overall, I felt like it was a safe space. Bartenders were friendly and attentive, as were all the staff that we interacted with. My one complaint was the condition of the bathroom. Look, I don't care what your biological gender or gender identify are, but please don't pee on the toilet seat. Both the stall that I used as well as the one my wife used were covered in urine. That's just gross-no matter who you are.

He was so nice a made it feel like we were friends. He was chill and the music playing was a perfect vibe. My friend and I even had a conversation about how he was a perfect fit for this type of place. When we left, I ended up leaving my phone on the bar and Brett rushed out to give it to me, so kind and helpful. In the main part of the saloon, they offered line dance lessons and if that's your thing, I'm sure it's worth a visit. We didn't participate, but it looked fun. We asked for spicy margaritas, but he said they were out of something to make that specific margarita. He quickly offered a solution and made us jalapeño margaritas instead and they were perfect. We did not intend to eat, but we're easily swayed after looking at the menu. We had the elote and the birra egg rolls, each were delicious. We left, but came back a few hours later after meeting up with friends and they wanted to play pool. We told them that they'd like this place, which they did. The day time bartender (Star) is always finding an area that is not seen on camera and getting high from her THC vape and not being respectful to the customers. She has openly disrespected the other bartenders around the patrons and openly harassed patrons she doesn't personally like. Night bartender (Malinda) spends more time with personal friends than she does behind the bar. When she is behind the bar she has a curt attitude towards the customers thinking she's being funny, but instead is being rude and disrespectful. There are 2 new bartenders that do a pretty good job but they don't get the chance to shine because they are put on the back burner. After going to this bar for quite a while I feel that the atmosphere here has changed erratically in the negative direction. The patrons are great but it's the two aforementioned bartenders that have drug the bar into disarray.
