I came here for breakfast as it is a historic diner. I love diners and history. I love dining in this real train car, and the ambiance is just wonderful. Watching the cook prep breakfast and engage in conversations is a terrific way to have breakfast. The cook, waitress and hostess are all in one, the owner. The owner lets you order anything on the menu whole, half, 1/4 size.... The food is not bad. They are famous for the hash browns, house made fresh daily. It was good but a bit too greasy for me. Food was ok-ish nothing to write home about. Certainly don't think it deserves the title of best breakfast. Had the special omelette and nothing had flavor, even added ketchup and Tabasco and it sucked the flavor out of it too. Wife had her eggs over medium and they over cooked them. The omelette had no fluffyness to it at all , I've seen flat tire with more volume to them. The toast was good , the coffee good and the water was too. read more

Nothing can beat a good old fashion American breakfast but what's equally important is the service you receive. Knight's Diner puts the p in passion and d in diner. The few times I ate there seem to me they pride themselves in friendly customer service even if things get busy around there they are still attentive to fill your coffee on a regular basis. With their breakfast, the hash browns tend to be slightly on the soggy from grease side. But I would ask the waitress to have it extra crispy when ordering. The bacon is fair and the German sausage is hearty and sets off the entire breakfast experience on a good "track" (pun intended). And the orange juice is nothing special. Like Frank's Diner and The Satellite Diner it would be nice if they served real maple syrup. Knight's Diner had at one time before I was born served as a car on an actual train line that ran when providing eating services on trains was a normal thing. Since I don't ride in modern trains across country in the states I don't know if you can get that same nostalgic feeling when eating at Frank's. In the end you walk out quite filled and content with the world. read more

I can't honestly review the food at this Spokane tradition. I have only ever had in the 20 years I have been eating there the German sausage eggs over easy hash browns with onion and gravy wheat toast slathered in berry preserves with black coffee. It is marvelous. The best German in town. Sweet hot mustard is available and brings out the best in that sausage. The place is always 2/3 full with regulars, family groups, blue collar workers, folks in suit and ties. The grumpy blonde bossing the other employees around is the owner. If you want violins quietly playing, ferns hung from rafters, bland food that appears from the kitchen after too long a wait. If you want a corporate satisfaction survey on the back of your foot and a half long computerized receipt. It ain't here. If you want excellently prepared traditional diner food, lunch too, at a reasonable cost, prepared right in front of you. Then grab a spot. The temperature is regulated by how close you sit to the grill. I tend to be chilly so I sit in the middle. read more

I hadn't been to Knights Diner in years as I live in CDA, however a few weeks ago a friend of mine needed to go to Hillyard so we went over and stopped there for breakfast. When we arrived there was maybe 5 cars in the lot and the restaurant was maybe one third full. We went to the far end to sit at the cramped bar stools. Note to tall people like me....no knee room! The waitress was pleasant and promptly took our order. I ordered a Spanish Omelette with pancakes instead of toast and my buddy ordered biscuits and gravy. Not long after our order we were asked to move so a larger party could occupy our spot so we moved to the semi crowded front. We were there 30 minutes before our order showed up, which seemed excessive based on the amount of people that were there when we walked in. The shocker was the pancakes. A plate with one pancake the size of a silver dollar and the other a quarter. My buddy and I looked at each other if this was some sort of joke! My omelette wasn't even blended well as there were egg whites showing and it had a strange taste too it. I asked the waitress for some salsa to camouflage the taste and the owner (who was passing by) rolled her eyes and said SHE will get it. My buddies biscuits and gravy were very small and looked very uninteresting. For the high cost of the food there neither of us thought this was a good value on any level. Save your money and go to Franks Diner instead which is fantastic. The owner looks burned out and only one person seems to work the grill. read more

I really wanted to love this spot! The rail car interior is in excellent condition, the mahogany counter is beautiful. The history is great and the location is fine. be warned that there are not booths and the diner chairs turn fast so don't expect to sit and lounge. Service was fast. Service was friendly. Prices were ~11 per plate for any basic egg dish, omlet, steak or sandwich. Why only two starts? Because the menu us boring classic grease fest without even an effort to cut the grease. I'm fine with a basic menu at 10 for a two egg & hash dish if its quality ingredients on a good tasting grill. This was straight up grease and salt. Super heavy breakfast that totally disappointed. The omelet is not worth your time. I would recommend this to people who are keen on brown gravy, hash browns or butter. If your interested in anything else (coffee, eggs, bread, fruit) then look elsewhere. read more

Walked into this old quaint rail car and the owner/ waitress greeted us, served us coffee immediately and took our order within minutes. One of the most friendly eateries I've ever been to.....and the breakfast was great. I had their mini omelette with 3 dollar pancakes with huckleberries. Just the right amount and delicious. If you are looking for a friendly, simple breakfast with great food, good old fashion ambiance, then this is your spot. read more

If you support a business just not based on the food served, I would not recommend this one. I called to speak to a manager and was grilled about who I was "with". I tried to explain that I had been a customer in the past, and so when my daughter heard there was a possible opening as a dishwasher she wanted to apply. She tried calling yesterday and did not get an answer. When she called today she was also treated so poorly by the elderly woman answering the phone she was in tears. They asked her if she had forgotten the answers from when she had called before, but she had never spoken to anyone. It seems to me that if you are calling a business you should be treated with some decency, and the manager displayed none of this even when I talked to her. She should be ashamed of making a honor student cry when they try and work even harder and are met with adults who should know better. read more

It is a train car, so feeling like a sardine is to be expected, I guess, but I am six foot two and couldn't even put my feet on the floor in front of me or my knees were all up in the counter. I did like being able to watch the cook make our food, I ordered a half order of hash-brown's and half order of biscuits and gravy to try to save money ( it was still 6.80). The hash-brown's were like mashed potatoes with a crispy outside, and the biscuit and gravy were hard and tasteless, neither were good at all. The majority of breakfast plates were 9.95, and not worth 4.95, my associate's ordered two of them. Next time we will definitely go elsewhere. I would rather go to Dave's grill out at Sprague and Pine's, you can get TWO plates of food for 9.95, that actually taste good, oh and you can stretch. In my opinion Dave's is the best choice for affordable great tasting breakfast in Spokane, Dick's for lunch, and Wing Bro's for dinner. read more
