First timer today and it's great lil restaurant! But not as little as it looks from the outside. There's a HUGE side and small side. I got the third pound burger. It's HUGE and looks way bigger than third pound. They also have a half pound OMG! Hubby got country fried steak. The GOOD: burger size and taste, grilled bun, fresh fries, good sized cups so you don't have to ask for a refill after three sips. CFS was also huge, tender, nicely breaded and had some flavor. Oh and they have a senior menu, which is nice, cuz we couldn't eat all This! Lady that waited on us was super sweet. The BAD: forgot my cheese on burger, gravy was a bit watery, mashed potatoes were instant, green beans just so so, fries could use some seasoning. He gave it an 8. Fries were frozen crinkle cut and not crisp, also small portion. He said it was fine because the burger was big. Husband had the CFS, fries and green beans. He gave it an 8/9. Portion size on CFS was big, fries (frozen, crinkle cut- not so much). He enjoyed the meal. I had the chopped steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The chopped steak was a cooked hamburger patty with semi grilled onions. The potatoes, green beans, and gravy were not homemade/from scratch. I always try to give a positive review, so here it goes. This place is "home cooking", granted on a quick and easy week nights I do use shortcuts (instant potatoes, canned green beans, instant gravy) BUT if I was charging these prices it would not be the easy path. You can still make money using fresh potatoes for the mashed potatoes and French fries. Same with green beans. Brown gravy, hit me up I can teach you how. The chopped steak? It needs more depth in its flavor than a hamburger patty, again I can help you on this. The food wasn't bad. But it wasn't worth the $. Portion size on the meat was good. That's the only reason for the 8. The sides need work. I was really wanting a good down home southern cooking restaurant here locally. Sadly this is not it. The chicken fried tenders were so meaty, flavorful and with a THICK crust. Lots of crunch! The fried chicken sandwich was good but I doubt it was a true breast--more like a slice of breast. Still would not hesitate to return. I took a star off b/c my plate had a big chip. It's a pet peeve of mine and asking for a lawsuit from a patron chocking on broken ceramic. To start, I'm a buger snob. I saw their FB ad & decided to stop in & try it. I was promptly greeted & seated by a very friendly waitress, who assured me she sat me in the most comfortable booth in the place. Within a minute, a sweetheart of a waitress took my drink order & upin her return, I ordered the 1/3lb. cooked medium, with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles & cheese. My food arrived within 5 minutes. The burger patty, which you could tell was handmade, was so large, it hung over the sides of the bun. Plenty of mayo & mustard were on the buns (both top & bottom-personal pet-peeve, so bonus points) & the burger was cooked perfectly. Plenty of toppings. Fabulous hand cut, seasoned well, fries on the side. Very rare for me not to add salt or pepper to my burger & fries, but no need to here. The burger was so large, I could have split it, but so good, I ate most if it! The only 2 changes I'd make, is the bun & cheese. Switch to brioche, so you don't have the gummy, stick to your teeth bun & it hold up better to all the juicy goodness. Use real cheddar vs American cheese. Over heard another customer tell his waitress that the chicken fried steak is the best he's ever had, but also so is their catfish. Don't let the location fool ya! We recently dined at Kizer's Grill for the first time, after seeing their ad stating they had reopened. We were both hungry for some southern comfort and wanted to try their chicken fried steak. I have had chicken fried steak from Beaumont to El Paso and Brownsville to Dalhart. Now I like a LOT of cream gravy on my steak and fries or mashed potatoes and extra for the Texas toast, so when I order I ask for "lots of gravy, gravy on my gravy." I recall only one time, at a restaurant in Ft. Worth, being told there would be a charge of 50¢ for extra gravy, which I agreed to. They brought out my meal, swimming in gravy, along with a nice bowl full of gravy. Perfect! At Kizer's I was told there would be a 75¢ charge for an extra cup of gravy. Okay, I suppose the cost of flour and milk has gone up since the Ft. Worth meal a couple of months ago. My order was brought out with gravy covering maybe half the steak and the "cup" of gravy was a tiny styrofoam container with 3 oz. of gravy at best. Petty? Perhaps to some, but gravy is a "thang" with me. I doubt that I'll return to try their catfish because I like lots of tarter sauce as well:) read more

I tend to be very wary when Facebook suggests something for me. But this time Facebook's algorithm hit it out of the park!! My husband and I LOVE a good hole-in-wall restaurant, Kizer's fits that bill to a "T". There was no blaring music. Plus. The atmosphere was family casual. Plus What we ordered...PLUS PLUS! Hubby got the 1/3 lb burger and the meat patty was bigger than the bun! I joked with him about having to use a knife and fork to eat his burger. He looked me square in the eye and said that he never has and he never will disrespect burger and it's cook by using utensils to eat it. LOL! So we got a 2 inch stack of napkins. I ordered the chicken fried steak, sweet potato fries, and the vegetable medley. The steak y'all... the...steak... I had to take a pause in gratitude. The breading was just right, you never bit into a big 'ol of batter. The meat was so tender you didn't need the knife they gave you with it! That vegetable medley was not just treated like an afterthought. Someone loved on those vegetables. Someone took their time on those vegetables. Lawdhavmercy! I asked our server how long had the restaurant been opened. Her reply was "only a few months" So I need y'all to touch and agree with me now, in the mighty name of good food. We will NOT let this place fall by the wayside! They now serve breakfast, y'all!! Get here as soon as you can and come back often...you might see me there. Went for lunch today. Ordered a 1/4# burger with no lettuce, tomatoes, or mustard. Came with tomatoes and mustard, sent back. Came back with the same burger but torn into three pieces, with the original bun scraped out. Said I was done and sent back burger, they graciously said they would not charge me for the burger. I know getting help these days is hard, but our last experience at Kizer's was very disappointing. We've eaten there a couple of times prior and were very impressed with how good the food was. So, we thought we'd try it for breakfast. As we were entering the building, two gentlemen were leaving (will address this later in review). We entered the door and stood inside to wait to be seated. We stood there for 4 to 5 mins. and no one assisted. So we sat down at a booth by the door. Waited & waited and still no assistance. The wife got up and got two menus from the desk at the front door. We read the menu for breakfast and sat there for 15 more minutes, still no waitress or waiter. We knew there were employees present because we could hear them chatting behind the wall that leads to the kitchen. We finally decided to leave and were very disappointed with the experience. Went to "Mama's" on Broadway and had a nice breakfast with quick service. We looked across the room and there were the two gentlemen we saw leaving Kizer's earlier. They apparently had the same experience we had. We're going back this afternoon to try the "All You Can Eat" Catfish dinner. Hopefully, the experience will be better. This will be "their" last chance with us. Will follow up with today's review. Okay, we went back for the "All You Can Eat" catfish dinner in the afternoon. The food was really good and the service was great. We were charged $12.99 for each dinner although the sign for their Specials at the door said it was $10.99. Hopefully, they'll improve the service in the mornings and correct their Specials sign. Brought the rating up to 3 Stars. read more
