Had problems with my 04 toyota Not shifting properly attempted some stuff on own to no avail. Remembered going to kiyos back in the 90's when the GM truck i owned had tranny issues,wayne was busy and said if I not in a rush he will look at it between jobs..so he did and took about a week or so repaired and charged me alittle less because it took longer. it worked great. Anyway he tested and scanned my 04 toyota.and suggested I go see another shop he recommended because it probably wasn't the trans and sure enough . I took my Toyota Tacoma to Kiyo's thinking I had a transmission issue. But after test driving the truck and looking at the error codes, Wayne the repairman determined that the trans was fine and that the throttle body was the issue. He ordered the OEM part, and fixed it at a very fair price. I think Wayne is the owner. He is a friendly guy, timely, honest, and easy to talk to. If I have a transmission issue in the future, I will definitely go back. There are just two mechanics there, and they look pretty busy. Kiyo's Transmission is a name whom I remembered from small kid time. Spring Break 2025 is coming up. My 03 Rav 4 decides to go "hamajang" I knew it was gonna need fixing..I don't want to get STUCK somewhere... Took it to Kiyo's and spoke to Wayne. They did a great job, changed the computer for the trans, checked inside.. no metal shavings.. good and changed the trans oil filter i had in my car. + added some oil and changed the "plug".small kine leakage. They had my car for 1 week. I was on break and it was perfect. Picked up my car... around the corner. I also had another issue w/ my car getting the door open.. but that was solved right after I left Kiyo's. Our car stayed in his shop for a week and a half and it came out with a new problem. Besides a still leaking transmission, three lights on the dashboard now come on when we drive it. We took it back and waited another week and on the way home the problem reoccurred! It was blamed on the wrong part that was installed. Why did he use it if it was the wrong part? He is full of excuses about his shoddy work. So unprofessional. Before we take the car back for the third time since we already paid big money in cash which he asked for, we asked to have a loaner to drive because we're always without a car for at least a week. Think of it as a blessing if Kiyo's is willing to take your car for your most difficult repair that other mechanics are not experienced enough to touch or even try. in my case it was four other shops each with its own overall favorable, and even glowing, positive Yelp reviews before talking to Kiyo's. Be patient if the job takes longer than expected. That place seems to be always busy crowded and overflowing out into the street for good reasons. Wow where do i start, so first off i need a clutch job done on my evo. i talked to wayne he gave me a pretty good price compared to other places on island. he told me it was going to take 2-3 days turn around. so i dropped it off on a monday called him the following friday he told me he hasn't started on it yet cause he was short staffed that week and said he was gonna start monday. i called him a week later on friday and said he hadn't started on it yet due to all his lifts being taken up and that he'll start next week. i called again the following friday 3 fridays after i dropped it off and he told me he was barely starting on it and i would be ready in 2 days. i called again in 2 days he said he barely got the trans off. at this point im getting irritated cause he keeps telling me days it'll be ready then pushing it back. i had to call him each time he never gave me a call to update me. then at the end of the week i gave him a call and told me it was ready finally. not even a month into driving the car my throw out bearing gave out. i decided to take the car else where to get the work done and the new guy who is doing the work telling me and showing me a lot of bolts are loose he stripped some bolts etc. also i attached some videos and screenshots of the new guy i took it to do fix all of kiyos work. he shows how there were missing seals that i provided him and also a picture of the monoloc that comes stock but i provided kiyos with an act one and to my surprise when the clutch came out my act monoloc was no where to be found. i never got it back from him so he kept that $90 part i provided to him to install with the clutch. so the fact that he didn't install all the parts i gave him never gave me the parts back either is just scummy. i am out $3300 cause of kiyo trans. $1300 from his terrible work and $2000 from the new mechanic fixing all his mistakes. i didn't even have the car back a month and it broke down cause of kiyo almost toasted my brand new clutch and flywheel. this ain't even everything that was wrong but it's way too much to type out. I don't recommend going to kiyos his prices might be cheap but in the long run it'll just cost you more. Please avoid this shop go pay a good reputable shop instead of cheaping out with kiyos transmission. read more

I am writing this to let people know that Wayne is a rip off! My mom took her car to Kiyo's because it was giving her transmission problems and he told her he was busy, but would be able to fix it. 11 months later and he still hasn't fixed it! He keeps giving her the run around and his remedy is telling her to "drive it till it breaks and then throw it away" what kind of so called mechanic will tell a customer that. She bought that second hand car because her car was breaking and that was supposed to replace her breaking car. She is an elderly woman living on a fixed income, but she is still independent and this car that Wayne has, would be used for her to do her every day things. He has never contacted her about any updates regarding her car, she always has to call him and he ALWAYS has an attitude and insists that she should just "throw away" her car. Not once did he tell her he couldn't do the job, instead he still has her car and she doesn't even know if he is attempting to fix it. What kind of person would do that to a customer, let alone an elderly woman living on a fixed income. July 25th will be a whole year that he has had her car and it is still not being fixed. He claims that he is not the owner of Kiyo's and that he is just a worker. If he is lying about that, then it just goes to show what type of person he is. I would never recommend his services to anyone, not even my worst enemy! How can people be so evil is beyond me. read more

A 2006 truck would be wearing away after 17 years. Exactly what happened with my transmission, it was faulty. Dangerous. Kiyo's Transmission Rebuilt my transmission, took care of it expeditiously, expediently at a great price. Now, I'm driving what feels like a brand new truck. Quiet, powerful, smooth, amazing. I needed my transmission to be rebuilt. It's on an older truck and I was getting quotes over 4k! Wayne gave me a quote of $2,300. I knew it would take awhile before I got my truck back. Sometimes I would have to call and get an update, so communication could be a bit better. Luckily I had access to another vehicle. Almost been a year since my 1997 Camry had the right & left axle seals replaced, leaking transmission fluid, and I'm back to do my review. At first I was skeptical at the low price compared to the other mechanics I contacted, but the owner (dark local Japanese guy) was very professional, kind, and took the time to explain to me the problem. The only negative thing is that my car was returned to me one day later, so communication could've been a bit better. However I was able to adjust my work schedule, and had a replacement vehicle, so wasn't a big problem. I contacted Wayne the owner on 10.12.21. We agreed to meet the next day at 7 AM. When I arrived the next day he knew exactly who I was and immediately started working on my car and provided me an estimated quote. I was in and out of the shop in about 2 1/2 hours. My transmission went out while i was currently broke. My engine ran fine, eliminated a #3 misfire by replacing spark plugs and coils myself. Just needed a transmission. It finally failed while heading home from work. Oct 22, 2022. Im writing this on Friday May 19, 2023. I have not yet got my truck back. They tried to sell to me this past monday, but as i pulled out after paying 2K for a "REBUILT" 4R75E transmission.. i found the brakes did not work whatsoever, just a wildly stiff pedal while idling out into traffic. The engine could also barely run, almost incapable of idling, and the brand new battery was dead flat. When i limped it across the street to look it over I found the following: -Radiator shroud just laying across top of condenser, with zero fasteners securingfor month further! it -entire intake duct sitting oddly skewed, as it had no securing fasteners either -coolant line from radiator to de-gas bottle left dangling, which spilled coolant substantially. So i climbed underneath and saw -my original tranission oil pan, with fluid wetting the entire perimeter of the pan gasket -my original transmission case and extension tube to the transfer case -the same torque converter housing that I had since i bought the truck. Waynes remarks? Thats how he found it and my engine was junk. This is 6months and 3weeks with them, and countless runaround answers and literal lies from all of them and shushing me by saying 'bye' in mid sentence when I'm addressing him. You might wonder where all my old parts were, like i did. Ive asked him many times throughout this "repair" timeframe if i could see the old parts so i could learn how it failed and see what it takes for a transmission break down. He told me he threw everything away already, so no old parts to look at strangely.. even though he told me to my face he would let me look at then early on. He also knew it was a 4x4 transmission yet somehow still tried to blame me saying he didn't know it was 4x4 so that was why the 2wd housing and case wouldn't fit. Somehow the internals are all compatible though??the "men" that work for and with him are also all liars, saying that my truck should be done in 2days, when work never started on it FOR OVER A MONTH AFTER THEY TOLD ME THAT. This was my daily driver, and it f#cked me up immensley to be under his cognizance.everysingle aspect of this job was done poorly at best. And Wayne still attempts to blow smoke at me, and shush me, while trying to convince me i brought it to him like all that. read more

My transmission was stuck in a gear and my truck wasn't running properly. I was recommended to Wayne and this shop from another shop. It wasn't a easy fix and other shops couldn't figure out what was wrong. He held on to my truck for four days trying to figure it out. He finally found what was wrong ordered two parts and replaced it. I was thinking it would be a grand or more to repair it since he'd had my truck for so long. But it wasn't and he's been running smoooood ever since. Wayne is a great mechanic and honest. Getting a hold of him on the phone may be difficult at times but he's not gonna do a half ass job and give your car/truck back to you. He makes sure it's done completely and I thank him. read more

Im basing my review on my own personal experience with this business. I knew my transmission was shot and needed to be rebuilt. I called half a dozen places and they all quoted me around the same amount, 4800-5500 for a rebuild which is a lot of money. I reached out to a friend who's in the automotive industry and he recommended Kiyo's. They quoted me at 2800 for a rebuild, basically half the price of what everyone else wanted to charge so I dropped it off. I do agree that their communication and time estimates could use some work but I have other vehicles I could drive so it was not an issue for me to save 2-3k by having to wait a little longer than other shops may have taken for the same repair. It's an old school shop that doesn't use computers and is quite busy, you will pickup on that once you go there in person, if that's not something you are comfortable with feel free to spend twice the amount elsewhere! A rental car for a couple weeks or even an entire month would have cost much less than the difference I was saving had I needed one so that's always an option as well for those with only one type of transportation. I haven't even gotten to the best part though, when I picked up my truck he informed me that rather than rebuild my current transmission with 188,000 miles he was able to source the same exact transmission with only 12k miles on it from a local parts yard. He also informed me that my driveshaft was bent where it meets the transmission and that was probably what caused the original failure. He then goes on to tell me that he installed a new OEM driveshaft that cost 800 dollars but didn't even charge me for it since he got a good deal on the replacement trans that was utilized. I seriously don't know how he could be more of an honest hard working mechanic than that! I have sent multiple friends and family members to this shop since and they have all had positive experiences, he even told one of them it's not worth it to try and fix when I'm guessing others would have just taken their money blindly. 62,000 miles on the replacement trans currently and not a single issue. read more

Where to start...this has been a 3 month affair. I provided the clutch kit complete with flywheel, pressure plate and clutch. So no wait for parts. I gave 2 stars basically because Kiyos finally completed my clutch swap. First month I got no feedback, no calls. After the month I called for status checks. Every week it seems someone was sick or had gotten covid. Ok fine. Trying times I get it man. I gave a lot of slack. By month 2, same excuses. Guys not coming work and now my car is all the way in the back Wayne tells me. He having problems with the pedal not returning to position. So I do my own research. It has to be bled correctly, so I tell him what to do... 2 months 1 week in... I buy a permanently installed bleeder block from ECS tuning 200 bucks and have it 2 day shipped in fed ex to Hawaii-not cheap, to aid in the bleeding process. I drive in and drop it off, with printed out instructions! 2 weeks later I contact him and oh... he says your call done. "My mom never call you"? I'm like what no. Sheesh. I pick up my car and do my walk around nothing out of sorts. He didn't install the bleeder block.. I pay the bill, which to my surprise was kinda in the amount we talked about. Driving on the freeway.... I look up, oily finger prints on my white fabric. GDI! I'm pretty annoyed but I spend the next couple hours when I get home deep cleaning with a toothbrush. Next day I open my hood, wtf. Intake pieces broken and mismatched. The plastic intake pieces look obviously older then my newer remailmaining pieces dude.. Clearly not belonging to my car. Call Wayne up. He tells me: " oh yah I forgot to tell you". More like you was hoping I wouldn't catch it. So my intake box isn't secured anymore and is moving back and forth and the air scoop that brings in fresh air he tells me he replaced from another VW. SO it means he completely mangled my original air-cooled and trim pieces and didn't want to tell me. But instead pulled broken , unserviceable pieces from a different model to hide the fact. Nice move man. His response was my pieces never fit, like im an idiot that can't recognize mismatched pieces. I went VW yesterday, my new bolts and replacement trim pieces are just under 150 bucks. I should've done a more comprehensive walk around , inside and under the hood. I wish I took pictures of the pile finger stains all over but I thought that was the end. read more

My transmission had some issues. Called Wayne, and he said to bring it in the same day. There were 2 services in the table for my car. Transmission fluid change or transmission flush. The flush is pricier. When I went to pick up my car, he said he performed the cheaper service (change), because he didn't want to waste my money. Wayne then told me that I should drive it around for a week, and if all is good, bring it back for the flush. I was a bit confused. Then he explained that there's a possibility that I may need major service which could be thousands. Basically, he did not want to perform the more expensive service (flush) if there was a bigger problem because that would just be a waste of my money. So he did the cheaper service to save me money, told me to drive it for a week, then bring it back and he will just factor in the money I just paid, to pay the difference for the flush. Wayne is honest, fair, and does not upcharge anyone. He actually saved me money! An honest mechanic is hard to find and Wayne is one of them. read more

I came here during the lockdown because a car I was interested in purchasing had a leak and I wanted to make sure it was nothing serious. It's a busy shop. I can see why. Reminds me of a moms and pop garage Took my bmw 3 series in because my normal shop told that the transmission fluid was burnt and don't recommend changing the fluid. Because it might make it worse. The trans warning sensor light was on and drove in limp mode. I spoke with Wayne at Kiyos ( it was recommended by my shop ) and left my car there. I was dreading the cost of a rebuilt transmission. Luckily Wayne told that the fluid was dirty and a solonoid was bad. The part wasn't to costly. What a relief especially before Christmas.
