I have a special feeling of love about locally owned businesses and Kitty and Pinky did not disappoint, it's a Vietnamese counter service restaurant, casual and best for lunch. During my visit there were two older women working (presumably Kitten and Pinky?). I ordered the tofu bahn mi, and I was greatly surprised/impressed that the tofu was made to order and served warm. It was an excellent sandwich. It could be improved with optional jalapeño pepper (or a pepper spicer than what they use). They also offer rice and noodle plates. This is definitely a mom's and pops shop. It's a small spot, menu is hand written nothing fancy here. It's a block away from the pier and it's perfect sandwich to take on a picnic at the beach. I ordered the chicken sandwich and the chicken was juicy, veggies were fresh and the bread nicely toasted. My hunny ordered the tofu, he said it was good but wished the tofu was crunchier. Next time I'll the Pho especially on those cold and foggy days, which often time Pacifica is (-I'll come back and post about it). Order 10 combo sandwiches for a party and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Fast forward to October and ordered sandwiches for lunch with a few friends. Put in a phone order for 5 sandwiches and went there to pick it up 15 minutes later and as I was paying, the guy said there is an automatic mandatory 10% service fee for phone orders. I told him I didn't remember being charged a service fee the last time I walked in to order. He said the fee was only for phone orders which made absolutely no sense to me. If he would have told me over the phone that there was a fee for phone orders, I would have just driven 2 minutes there to place my order. We are greeted. The hand-written menu is your standard Viet cuisine as my sister decides on Papaya Shrimp Salad and I choose a Vermicelli with BBQ Pork & Spring Rolls! I add Martinelli Apple Juice for my drink. Prices are cheaper than your typical Bay Area Vietnamese (non-Tenderloin), each about $11 + our drinks. Casual and modest indoor dining available, but note all dishes are still served as take-out. We sit at the window counter as it was a pleasant day to just wander. Our lunch brought to us quickly and plenty for the prices paid. Sister enjoyed her salad, mentioning how fresh it was. My Vermicelli combo was exactly what my body craved... tasty and light with no aftertaste (as sometimes you'll find in cheap spots). I was very pleased with my go-to choice! Hate to tarnish the reputation of a mom and pop store but the sandwiches were unacceptable. The bread was stale and hard to bite. Hard as rocks that crumbles after each bite. Not an ounce of chew to the bread. The bbq pork was tough and hard to chew. It's upsetting expecting a treat on a Saturday afternoon with my family, only to find myself eating old meat and bread. The only reason I'm not giving a 1 is for the friendly service and reasonable papaya salad. I came here almost two years ago and really enjoyed the banh mi sandwiches. I noticed the Yelp ratings were discernibly higher here than other nearby spots, besides which Vietnamese fast food sounded pretty good to me. What was a nice surprise was how much better the food was than my expectations. I went for the $9.99 Vietnamese Chicken Salad where the chicken was tenderly prepared and thoughtfully separated from the shredded cabbage, chopped onion, mint leaves, and peanuts that took up most of my takeout container (photo: https://bit.ly/3xuJX1y). My partner really enjoyed the grilled pork and said that the meat was very tender and flavored well. The chicken in the bbq chicken sandwich was a little dry and I thought that the pieces were kind of big for the sandwich. The egg rolls were also pretty big. For the price, which was under $30 for these items, is pretty reasonable and it's great they are right near the beach. We would come back here again if we were close by. read more

True Mom and Pop type store. Loved the food, love the location and the ladies working were really sweet and caring. You can't go wrong with their BBQ Pork menu items. The #5 was probably my favorite. We ordered the #1 combo bahn mi, the BBQ chicken over rice, and the BBQ pork over rice. Our family was in agreement that the BBQ pork was our favorite. Also, the table next to use has the mayo bread? That looked really good. Might try that next time. My wife is gluten sensitive, according to the staff the only questionable ingredient the they use to marinade the bbq pork is fish sauce since not all are gluten free. There was a bit of a language barrier when asking these questions, but we decided to take a chance and ended up fine. Maybe not fair, but I compare every bahn mi sandwich to Saigon Sandwiches in SF Tenderloin district. Sorry, this wasn't even close in taste, amount of filling, or price. It was ok, I was missing the pickled veggies & maybe just lacking overall in flavor. He had the bbq pork over rice & found it to be a bit salty. I had bbq pork bahn mi, but didn't find it too salty. We also had an order of spring rolls. Cant go too wrong with those. Would I make the trek back, most likely no.
