We heard about Kitok from tons of Waco locals and went after a football game, only to be majorly disappointed. I got the chicken tenders and my husband and sister in law got a burger. The burgers were run of the mill quality, and the chicken tenders were anything but tender. It was like eating room temperature fried jerky. They were pounded incredibly thin (again, think jerky) and were fried within an inch of their life. The fries were cold and I tried a few bites and then had to stop. It was awful. A girl at the table next to ours had ordered the "tenders" and fries and we made eye contact while trying to understand how they were ok serving this. We both just started laughing and were relieved when we realized we weren't the only one not eating a meal we had to pay for. The waitress was shockingly rude, rolling her eyes and scoffing when I ordered a water and then asked for a sprite as well. We requested straws the next time she came to the table and she actually chastised us, saying she already asked us when she brought the waters (not one of us heard that) and then dropped 2 broken straws and one intact one on the table. It was pretty dramatic and unnecessary. We all just looked at each other in shock that she acted that way and avoided asking her for anything else the rest of the meal. I have to honestly say being born and raise in Waco, I've always passed by this restaurant but I had never been in and now that I'm a vegetarian I think it was a bad choice to try it. All of the selections sounded wonderful to my meat eating family. The service was great and the fries were very tasty different spin with the fried veggies. I would've liked some non-fried veggie options but the coziness of this place always you to get to know the people next to you. I had a grilled cheese that seemed a little greasy nothing a dap of a paper towel didn't fix. I don't think it's a place for me but my aunt loved her food. read more

I'm all about a local dive with great food. Unique, cheap, good food at a place frequented by locals - that's sort of the pinnacle of what you hope to find on Yelp. Kitok is a dumpy, poorly maintained building with cramped seating in a somewhat questionable neighborhood. Check! Celebrated by locals for the weird mix of american hamburgers and korean dishes at affordable prices. Check! However, the missing part of the equation is the quality of the food. The food is really, really BAD. The Lip Locker burger is reminiscent of a burger you can get from any roadside diner. The patty is formed haphazardly and slightly overcooked. Several layers of burger and cheese are contained in a toasted bun with kind of buttery taste. In other words, the burger is absolutely mediocre. It's a vintage expression of a burger from the 1960's or maybe from a Denny's restaurant at 3 in the morning. It's edible, but it's weak and somewhat boring. The bulgogi consists of a few pieces of grilled meat and plate full of rice with chopped onions and celery, and a cup of soy or sesame sauce. It's a clunky dish without a lot of flavor, acid, or spice. It's bland and heavy, and distinctly the OPPOSITE of what good Korean food should be. It reminded me of one of those rice dishes you might find at a Chinese buffet restaurant that have been sitting for three hours under the heat lamp. Bleh. And the oriental fries, supposedly the hallmark of this restaurant, were greasy and off-putting. They consist of skinny shreds of potatoes, sweet potatoes and onions with a green herb (parsley?), dipped in a sweet batter and then fried. The fries have no seasoning whatsoever, and taste vaguely likely funnel cake or donuts because of the batter. I don't understand the appeal - they're oily, sweet, and have no salt. I don't know how it's possible to mess up the simple deliciousness of the french fry, but Kitok has achieved it. Even the complimentary potato/chicken soup and the iceberg lettuce salad were tasteless and pitiful. This place literally can make nothing right. Not only was the food terrible, but I also suffered the shame of having suggested lunch at Kitok to my co-workers. Everyone hated Kitok...and me. Thanks for nothing Yelp! read more

This cute little restaurant has the best burgers ever! You ask why and how is that-the bun is hot, grilled and has the perfect little crunch. I wish more places would do this extra step. So I stopped by Kitok's with my brother- the only way I would go there is with a friend because the place is a hole in the wall in a rundown part of town. Parking is around the back. The interior is all wood panels and dingy. I tried the bulgogi, which was OK but not as good as Clay Pot's. The fried rice was interesting, it had ground hamburger in it. My brother had the egg burger, which is a hamburger with a FRIED EGG on top. I tried some, it was really good, huge, and cheap. It is odd, but burgers are what this place is known for! We also tried the oriental fries, which I liked, but were severely in need of salt or some kind of sauce. They are like string fries made of all different kinds of vegetables. Kitok's is a dive, with great cheap burgers, but the location really put me off. I would not eat there after dark or in the late evening. The menu features a mix of American and Korean food. I always get the cheeseburger with asian fries. Gotta have the asian fries! I don't even know how to describe them really. It's like a nest of shoestring fries, onions, sweet potato fries, and parsley thrown together into the fryer and then plopped into a basket. This is not your trendy chain place... don't go expecting a Five Guys experience, but this is a great little hole in the wall joint with no ambiance, but plenty of charm and personality. I got a liplocker, my wife a cheeseburger, and we split a basket of oriental fries. Our burgers were quite tasty, the oriental fries were ok. A Waco institution! It's definitely not the best Korean food I've had (I once lived in NYC and have tried quite a few), but serviceable and the burgers and oriental fries are real good. You can't find anything else like those fries anywhere, assorted shredded vegetables dipped in fluffy batter and fried. I think they fries have declined slightly in quality since i started going to Kitok about 12 years ago, but they are still darn tasty. It's basically a Korean greasy spoon diner, not gourmet at all. Docked a star for super weird hours, but I think that is due to the sketch area they are in. They are frustratingly only open until 4:30 on weeknights, and only until 8 on Friday and Saturday.
