Hidden in a strip mall is a nice little kosher restaurant that has a vast menu. I'll be honest and say they can take a few things off the menu that they dont do that well. Food: After several visits, we have determined that the best options on the menu are Chinese dishes. The Israeli inspired items are just not up to par with competition and similar food in other states. The must skip item is the schnitzel, which I am convinced they tried to pound the chicken out of the dish. The chicken is so thin, that it is hard to distinguish the chicken portion from the breading. Fries are good, but frozen: could do better here with handcut fries. The soup is pretty solid too and a nice portion. The apps have the same "just ok" flavor. The baba was ok, the humus was much better. The pita? AWESOME! We have tried several dishes from the Chinese options and ALL are excellent! Service: Smaller place, so service is a function of how busy they are. That somewhat explains the difference in service we have received, but it still ranged from Very Good to Excellent. Last visit the waitress was very attentive and did a great job taking care of our party. Overall: Excellent place in the Valley and a must stop for kosher dining in the area. I go for the sesame chicken because there are so few times I could ever have that and it's just delicious but everything I've had there is always really good. Eggplant tahina, whole grilled eggplant, is so juicy delicious. The tahini and dried fruit toppings help bring out the favor of grilled eggplant. The best chicken tacos I've ever had! I admit to being skeptical of this place after seeing the prices on the menu. My friend eats kosher, I'm a good old-fashioned Catholic so pretty much anything goes for my diet. He ordered the grass fed hamburger with sweet potato fries and Israeli salad, which looked very fresh, not greasy, very healthy. chicken tacos were one of the specials that day and was very reasonably priced. I walked into Kitchen 18 and it was packed so I was lucky to get a table. The menu has a nice selection of American, Israeli, Kosher, Chinese favorites. I had the Moroccan lamb soup and blackened tuna with veges(grilled zucchini, rice, carrots)and a Corona beer to wash it down(K18 also has an excellent selection of Italian, Californian and Israeli fine wines). My tuna was delicious glazed with teriyaki sauce and a very large, filling portion. The Moroccan lamb soup was the best I ever had with chickpeas and amazingly tasty broth. Everything tasted great. The Owner personally attended to me and brought my dinner out fast even though they were closing soon; I had plenty of time to relax and eat. There were alot of Orthodox Jewish customers which is a good sign since they know their Kosher. I'm from the east coast and the owner told me he's from Chicago. K18 has that great neighborhood Chicago, NYC Jewish restaurant ambience. I rank it best Jewish Kosher restaurant in Arizona(and they have Kosher Chinese which is hard to find). We just finished dining here, and thought I would write a review with it fresh on my mind. I was afraid to eat here after hearing about all the health violations it had, but the menu looked interesting. First off, the restaurant appears very run down from the front. It is a no-frills Mediterranean/Chinese restaurant (I believe it's Jewish too). It's pretty charming, but it smelled very musty inside. It was also deserted. Bad sign. The service was very average. We had Cinthya as our server. She was very kind but seemed very frustrated with the restaurant. The food took almost 30 minutes to come, and she was arguing with the kitchen to hurry up. I DON'T BLAME HER! I guess the thing that offended me was that when we arrived our food (We ordered Orange Chicken and Sliders), the Sliders were raw. They were supposed to come Medium, but they were still MOO-ing. The fries on the side were also undercooked, and the frozen kind you buy at the Target Frozen Aisle. The Orange Chicken was pretty good, but for $20 we expected better. I guess the only way they don't go out of business is they price so much for mediocre food. Some of the tastiest food I've had in a long time! Family friendly atmosphere with lots of menu options and you really can't go wrong with anything. I ordered the hot and sour soup that had their own twist of chicken, tofu and peas and carrots. It was tasty but a little salty and a much larger portion than I expected. For my main meal I ordered the hot pastrami wrap with the sweet potato fries. So delicious! The wrap was incredible. So much flavor and warm. The fries ended up being comped because they didn't come out with the main meal and believe me when I say that the fries were worth it! I haven't been to Kitchen18 for several years but I'm happy to see that the decor has been upgraded and it's quite attractive. The food was excellent. Even though I'm not kosher I will be back for its salmon and Mediterranean dishes--hummus, felafel, etc. I had one of the Chinese dishes to see how the kosher version stacked up against non-kosher Chinese and it was terrific! We are from Los Angele and visiting Scottsdale for the first time. We looked up kosher restaurants on google and found this restaurant and it did NOT disappoint. We just ordered western burgers, pastrami burgers, Kung pao beef, beef lo mein and chicken tenders. Each meal came with 2 huge sides of salad and fries. The food was great. The meat in the burgers were fresh and tender. The burgers were large and had plenty of pastrami. The lo mein was flavorful had a lot of meat in it which was great. The Kung Pao was spicy but not overpowering, the meat was tender and juicy. It was not too oily. The food was ready on time and the service was great. The portions were HUGE and the prices are amazing!! Definitely recommend this place. read more

My guest's plate looked great and i took her here because she needed kosher dining options. My plate paled in comparison (and was much more expensive). One small red snapper fillet that was supposed to have Chimichurri sauce but apparently they just brush it on like a thin coating of marinade to where the Chimichurri ends up looking like a dry rub instead of what anyone else would be expecting Chimichurri sauce to look like on a dish. Thing was an astounding $28 and dwarfed by both of the sides. The israeli salad was fresh but very plain, my larger complaint with the sides lay with the mashed potatoes which tasted great for mashed potatoes but they were insultingly cold and not dry enough to be unpalatable but enough to annoy you. Ordered the chicken wings and they are all covered in feathers. I think they must just buy them super cheap because they are clearly not cleaned properly. I'm sure this isn't an issue for some people but it grossed me out. I understand some chicken still has some little hairs on it but this has full blown feathers, it practically flew out of the box. I did eat a couple that looked relatively normal and they were massively overcooked, dry and tough. This restaurant is large, with room to seat many. The food was delicious and the portions were very big, we couldn't even finish all of it (we took home for dinner the next day). The only con was that our waitress was very on top of us like she wanted us out of there as quick as possible. We felt very rushed and pressured. NEW MANAGEMENT * NEW MENU* DECOR IMPROVEMENT* MUCH BETTER FOOD! Potential for 5 stars (should have renamed restaurant to match the new identity) The only thing the same about Kitchen 18 is the address and that it is still a kosher restaurant that serves fully inspected meats unlike randomly inspected non-kosher meat. Only disease free animals are used. Grass Fed beef comes from the front quarter of the cow and the back end is sold to non-kosher plants. For these reasons meat platters do cost more than from non-kosher places. The menu offers a lot of variety but includes Middle Eastern Mediterranean Foods, SUSHI, Chinese style food, American Food and International Specials. We shared a variety of plates and started with Spicy Tuna Sushi. The tuna was clean tasting but not spicy. The rice was rolled nicely and didn't fall apart. Light soy, wasabi paste, a creamy sweet and slightly spicy sauce, a sweet kind of teriyaki and pickled ginger were served with the sushi. The Mediterranean Platter had very above average Falafels that were made with fresh herbs. The Falafels are what I'd call the crunchy meatball style that most but not all restaurants serve. The Baba Ganoush was AMAZING. Fire Charred Eggplant with just the right spices and textures. I haven't come across any better in Phoenix or Glendale. Hummus creamy and above average and also above average fluffy fresh pita bread. Shawarma Plate was also OUTSTANDING. The Chicken Meat had that really super perfect juicy texture and Flavor. So moist and seasoned just so. It might have been the BEST Chicken Shawarma I ever had. Blows away the shawarma I tried from other Mediterranean Restaurants I've been to lately. Skhug sauce (red pepper hot sauce) was a different style that I am used too. It was very hot and tasty and made with dried spicy peppers. The Grilled Vegetables that came on the plate were very delicious. Pita bread was very above average and was light and fluffy and fresh made. I note since this is a kosher restaurant I wouldn't expect the Chinese Food or even the sushi to be the best. Haven't sampled enough of the menu to award 5 stars but they do serve some winners here and the Mediterranean Food was above average for sure!
