Ordered on a Sunday around 4:45pm. Food was ready on time and the girl working the counter was nice! There was only one other family in there eating. Inside & outside has a lot of seating but it is pretty lackluster inside decor wise. It probably does better for take out. Food wise it fell pretty short. I was excited to try a new local business and I love middle eastern/Mediterranean food so I figured why not go somewhere new. The gyro combo (not pictured) comes with fries and a drink. Compared to other local gyro spots, this one was on the smaller side. The flavor was good for the gyro meat but dry. Unfortunately the fries lacked flavor, had no seasoning, and was dry. My boyfriend said they tasted like they came straight from the freezer. The kafta kebab plate (pictured) comes with hummus, pita, rice, salad, and garlic dip. The kafta again, had good flavor, but was dry. The hummus really tasted super bland and the olive oil flavor didn't stand out. The pita was chewy and flat, also dry. The Greek salad again lacked flavor, seasoning, and dressing. The rice was good. The garlic dipping sauce was a highlight. Overall I am not sure if they were having an off summer day but there is another restaurant locally that I love and does these dishes better so I won't be returning to Bethlehem Kitchen. read more

I was staying nearby for the Mesa Marathon. I stopped here after the race to pick up lunch. It was located in Gateview Park and was pretty easy to find. Although the place looked rather empty at prime lunch time, I wanted to give them a try. Most customers seemed to be doing to-go orders as well. I ordered their ribeye beef kabob plate and took it back to my room to enjoy. The lady working out front was very nice and friendly. The guys in the kitchen were a talkative bunch. I didn't understand them and I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't mind if it took a tad longer for the food to be ready. The food was good and was perfect for a post-marathon meal! read more

OUTSTANDING FOOD. When I walked in the restaurant was extremely clean. All the tables were clean and filled with utensils, condiments and such a clean table top! It made me want to sit there and eat and I would have had I not had to rush back to work. The menu wasn't too crowded with tons and tons of dishes to choose from which was helpful since it was my first visit. I chose the gyro plate which came with gyro meat (a generous portion), delicious rice, a yummy fresh salad and the BEST hummus I've had in quite a while. The food here is just great and I love it. We come often. What annoys me beyond words is that they request a tip before the order is even finished. On the counter is one of those machines for your credit/debit card and several tipping options appear. This is basically adding money to the price they charge and I fail to see the reason any customer should do it. Pretty disappointing experience at Shawarma Express. I know customer service seems to be at an all-time low currently, but this was unusually bad. The cashier was on her phone with the back to the door until we started to order. When she turned around she seemed annoyed that we were even there. We had a few questions about different things on the menu that she joylessly answered with one-word responses while doing a half eye-roll. Then came the snotty, "You ready to order or...?" At that point we probably wouldn't have if we weren't craving Mediterranean all day, and we really wanted to give this place a try.
