We booked a private cooking class with my entire family! It was a great experience, we made pasta and sides, and a dessert. Everyone had sooo much fun and the recipes were fun to make land were delicious. read more

I am obsessed with this place, love the classes. Go with my friends or by myself. If I haven't gone in a week or two I've got a sign up for class. It basically is just like going out for a wonderful dinner. You also learn how to make that dinner and can buy the supplies to make it with. I've learned to make pasta, Macarons, decorate cookies and so much more. I've been going there for years read more

We took a cooking class and had an absolutely perfect experience on the day after Christmas! I picked up four spots in their pasta class for the family. Fortunately, I made the reservation before Thanksgiving so we were able to get in - their classes sell out pretty quickly. Anne Cori is the woman who owns the place and was also the instructor for our 2.5 hour class. Anne has an incredible amount of knowledge about pasta and cooking in general and it turns out she even worked for a time as a chef in Italy. She did an excellent job of involving everyone in the production of the various dishes while also ensuring we all had the opportunity to try our hand at the key tasks like making the pasta dough and rolling it out. Throughout the class she shared tips and tricks for making both plain and filled pastas plus a variety of sauces. We learned that we were doing some things right when we made pasta at home and a lot of things wrong. We also learned that we enjoyed a certain filled pasta more than the raviolis that we usually make. As an added bonus, the method for making the agnolotti turned out to be quite a bit easier than using the ravioli mold we already own...but which may be headed for Goodwill. We learned to make several different sauces and discovered that we were sequencing our cooking schedules completely wrong as well. Our pasta making at home will most certainly benefit from the experience. After the dishes were done we sat down to a great meal which we had created in their teaching kitchen. Everything we made was delicious and we enjoyed eating our fill of each dish. Here's the class description for the class we attended: PASTA, PASTA, PASTA Homemade pasta is one of our most requested classes, and Anne Cori shares some of her best recipes, as this hands-on class learns to mix, roll, and cut pasta dough. Work side-by-side with Anne creating spinach-ricotta tortellini in brodo, butternut squash agnolotti in sage brown butter sauce, ricotta cavatelli con pomodoro, cacio e pepe on fettuccine, plus angel hair pasta with carbonara sauce. read more

If you need a gadget or gizmo for cooking or baking, chances are you'll find it here at Kitchen Conservatory. KC is like a Williams-Sonoma, Sur LaTable and the kitchen department at Bed, Bath and Beyond on steroids. Instead of shopping a chain, you can shop local and buy your gadgets and gizmos here. You'll pay substantially more, but it is worth it because you are supporting a local business. Also, it is common sense that the knowledge from the staff is worth the extra cents. I've heard their cooking classes are some of the best in the city, so I'll be checking them out so I can hopefully bump them up a star or two. read more

TL:DR - The "hands on couple classes" are not "classes" in which I've ever learned anything, as much as it is a set time to cook with a professional baby-sitter. Despite this disappointment, I've always had fun and good food after. I don't really love the concept of it's cooking classes, but each time I come I have so much fun that I couldn't rate it any lower. But I've attended about two "hands on" cooking classes here and have come to realize that it's not so much a cooking class as it is a glorified potluck with a cooking baby-sitter. When I see cooking class, I think they're going to teach you something, which is what I've been told their cooking demonstration is in that they cook and you watch. And when I saw their "hands-on" cooking class, I thought they were going to teach you a technique and then you'd get to try it yourself, as the entire class tries to cook a dish together. How it's been each time, and granted each time I've went it's been a couples class, so maybe the non-couple classes are different, but each time I've went, each couple was in charge of cooking one of the 6 courses on that night's tasting menu. And what that entails is that you're given a recipe, your ingredients and you're in charge of following directions from the recipe (not from the instructor/baby sitter) and making it to later share with the rest of the group. The "instructor" will go around to the different groups and check in on their progress from time to time, and help those that are less sure of what their doing, but that's about it. After everyone is done, we sit together as a big group and enjoy the fruits of our labor (see what I did there?). Despite this format, each time the food has come out tasting great, and we have always had a great time interacting with the other couples. So despite my disappointment in not having learned a SINGLE thing from these two cooking classes, it has always been fun. read more

Took the girlfriend to kitchen conservatory for Christmas. We went to the ultimate cocktail party. I should start off by saying that neither of us had taken a cooking class before and we both love to cook. I guess what I'm saying is we are not novice cooks who can't boil an egg. The class consisted of tequila lime shrimp skewers, Cheddar straws,Bacon wrapped dates and chorizo corn pups among a few others. The drinks were blood orange margaritas and Ginger gin and tonics. The class was very laid back and the teacher was very friendly. My problems with the class were that it wasn't very hands on. I mean we made one thing that didn't take long and then basically sat around and watched other people cook. My second disappointment was we didn't learn any new tricks or techniques. A third complaint was the drink recipes were awful as far as measurements go. In other words the teacher just said wing it on the drinks. The reason for the four star rating is the class was fun and I got some recipes I wouldn't have tried otherwise and I mean that was my ultimate goal in taking it. I would never guess Bacon wrapped dates would be delicious or Cheddar straws are essentially giant cheeze its. If you're looking for something fun and different check this place out one night! read more

Similar issue with a class that I registered for! I signed up for a cooking class for 2 people at $60/person back in January ($120.00 total). I received receipt of payment but no notifications from that date on. When I looked to remind myself when the class was, it turns out it was one week prior. When I called to inquire why no notifications were sent and see if I could reschedule or get some money back, I was rudely told that there was absolutely nothing that could be done. Most companies would have offered something or at least cared to know if there was a personal situation ( which there was) that possibly interfered with the class date. There was no problem taking my money, but a big problem with customer service! DO NOT sign up for anything with these people. "We received a gift certificate for a date night for Christmas from a family member, who informed us that we would receive a reminder e-mail. No such reminder e-mail issued and we missed the class. This morning I contacted the business. They informed me that classes are small and they could have sold the space if there was a no show, and accordingly could neither honor the gift certificate nor refund. In fact, they could do nothing at all. I hope at least three people see this, and choose not to buy a class or gift certificate. There's no reason to sacrifice customer service when you're a service business. Enjoy the free $150, jerks." read more

This place is truly one of those little havens of paradise for the true foodie. Not only do they have the types of cooking supplies and accoutrement that a serious minded cook craves, but they have a wonderful selection of culinary classes from which to choose, nearly every day of the week. Conservatory staffers frequently teach classes, but the real draw here is the fact that local chefs come in and teach themed classes ranging from seafood to breadmaking, sushi to pastries. One of my favorite classes was with the chef from Neiman Marcus' Zodiac Room and one of the head seafood guys at Bob's Seafood in U-City. It was like a grab bag of treasures from the deep and the chef prepared some of the most splendid seafood dishes I'd ever tasted. He showed us how to filet a skate, or stingray, and we were staring eye to eye with a giant grouper. Another fun class was a Cinco de Mayo event with a chef from Whole Foods. Everything was plentiful and healthy. His mole was stupendous and we had loads of fresh crab and lobster meat, not to mention homemade margaritas! I also did a tea tasting with the owner and founder of the Republic of Tea, Ron Rubin. We learned about the different types of tea, how long to steep each kind, and could choose from an entire counter of tea to supplement our research. That kind of personalized interaction with people in the field we foodies admire is priceless. It makes food that much more approachable. read more

So between the wife and me, I'm the cook of the house. This has been the case since we've been living together for quite a few years. Some things you just get used to and don't ever ever expect to change. When the Wife decided to take the "basic skills" class to Kitchen Conservatory, I was thinking "psh... sure... whatever." I didn't expect anything to come out of this. If anything, I was going to get a weeknight to myself for a couple weeks, which opened it up to let me go to any place she's black-listed for dinner... So she goes and takes some of these classes and she learns a bit here and there. However, if there is a recipe that you liked, there's a high probability that you weren't the one working on it. The way it usually works is that the recipes are split up and you just work on 1 or 2. Fortunately, the recipes are detailed enough that, given the basic skills (ah... see what I did there?), anyone can accomplish them. I have to say, they are all quite tasty. However with that over, the Wife's been taking a couple classes here and there, and I've joined in on some of the couples classes. They've been fun, but I don't really feel that I learn much there. Then again, I'm a pretty avid amateur cook. With those classes, though, she'd pick up a tip here and there, learn about some gadget or two, and even come back and cook said recipes that she enjoyed! Now consider how for the past many many years, she's only really done blue box mac'n cheese... this is pretty amazing. We've even been having fresh pasta at least once every 2 weeks now. I think one of the best things that has happened as a result of this is that she makes that last push over anything that may have pulled me back from purchasing some kitchen thing. So the reason why this place is 4 stars is that you're putting yourself at the mercy of other amateur cooks (it works both ways... I'm sure people didn't like stuff that I made...). One veal class that we took, the main veal course was so freaking salty, everything tasted bland with it. It practically ruined the dinner for me. So with the risk of that, coupled with the price, is it worth it? Maybe... if you're in the same situation as I am... the intangibles that has arisen from this has been quite awesome. * Ever Growing List of things my wife now makes that I think are awesome * - Fresh Pasta - Crepes - Brussel Sprouts with a balsamic glaze - Cauliflower puree (seriously, this is awesome especially for my fat ass) - Marshmallows (lemon, almond, snozberry...) - Cardamom cinnamon caramels - candied nuts read more

My friend booked us a class over the weekend which was a demonstration on brunch menu dishes. It was a lot of fun! We learned how to make a baked egg dish with lobster, baked scalloped pineapple, apple pancakes with caramel sauce, roasted sweet potatoes and regular potatoes with fresh herbs, cherry swirled coffee cake with almond streusel, plus a pomegranate cocktail. Our instructor Barb showed us how to make these delicious dishes and answered our questions along the way. The 2.5 hour class went by very quickly and it was fun learning to cook new brunch recipes (plus equally enjoyable eating everything afterwards!). I also had the chance to check out the store in which they had a plethora of kitchen items on sale. While a little pricey, it did give me a lot of great ideas of items that I still need for my kitchen. Overall, it was a fun experience and I look forward to checking out more classes in the future. read more

I bought 2 tickets ($130) to a February class for my mom and i as a Christmas gift. . Unfortunately she ended up in the hospital and we missed the class. With everything going on I forgot all about it. My mom called after realizing we missed it to explain the situation and to see if there was any sort of credit or rebooking we could receive. We talked to Ann the owner who advised there were no credits. When we mentioned we forgot and hadn't received any reminders she quickly said "we don't send out reminders". She never said anything such as "sorry to hear that" "hope you're feeling better" etc- basic human caring stuff. She offered us the recipes ... for crepes as the only option. I understand they have a wait list and it's our responsibility to attend or call to cancel but as a business some sort of consideration should be given for extreme circumstances. And who doesn't send out a reminder??? I love to support small businesses but would never support this one. I see there are other reviews that had similar situations. read more

We just left the Wake Up Little Sushi class, or as Jay called it Sushi 101. It was so fun! Jay is an amazing teacher and he is funny. We enjoyed ourselves very much! Jay had 2 trays of sushi prepared/making some as the class started. He began by telling his story and explaining the sushi basics. After eating his trays it was time for us to make our own! It was a great learning experience and makes sushi something you can become confident enough to make yourself! We will be returning for sure! read more

I had signed my daughter up for their junior chef apprentice cooking class months ago as birthday present and due to COVID exposure we were unable to make the class. When I called to ask if we could switch to another class at a later date they said there was nothing they could do and they refused to issue a refund or exchange for a later date. At no point was the lady I spoke with willing to offer any assistance, she simply just told me we can't do anything for you. I understand having a policy for cancellations but when there is literal pandemic you would think they would be more understanding and offer some support. I am really disappointed with their lack of customer service. It is too bad because I had taken a class their before and it was great but because of this experience we will not be returning. read more

My husband gave me a cooking class at Kitchen Conservatory for one of my Christmas gifts this year. It was a couples cooking class with a theme of pizza night including sangria, salad, pizza, and ice cream. I've always wanted to try a cooking class, but never had been so this was my first experience at KC and ever! We attended the Sunday evening class with 5 couples, including us. We were greeted, given a handout with all the recipes, and lead to the presentation area. Our instructor, Margi Kahn, lead us through the class. She introduced the recipes and assigned each couple to an item on the menu. It wasn't exactly what I expected (as a previous reviewer also mentioned) in that it wasn't a sequential, formal class. It was a more jump-in-and-figure-it-out-as-you-go kinda thing. The instructor was available for questions such as "where can I find a whisk?" or "how to take just the yolk out of the egg?". We used a recipe and did the best we could! We then made an individual pizza however we wanted with any ingredients (that were available) that we'd like. Collectively we made a Carmelized Onion, Bacon and Blue Cheese pizza (DELISH! - my husband's fav), Sausage, Red Onion, and Wild Mushroom (Good if you like onion :)), Roasted Garlic, Bell Pepper, and Fontina (YUM!! - my fav), and Cherry Tomato Pizza Margherita (also good!). We also made sangria, a salad, salted caramel ice cream. Add in our 5 pizzas (1 per couple) of our choice and we had way too much food. Since you can't take any home (though I don't know why?), we had to eat like we it was going out of style. As we inhaled (er, ate), the instructor explained how to make dough (as it had to be made ahead of time due to time constraints) and throughout gave some cooking tips with making roasted garlic, how to knead dough, etc. Overall, it was a fun experience. My main beef is that it's pretty pricey which would probably discourage me from buying on my own. The class also went over about half an hour (originally slotted to be a 5-7:30 pm), but I didn't mind. read more

My husband and I received a gift certificate from our kids to KC. We were excited to attend however mom got sick unexpectedly and passed away two days later. In all of the scuttle- I obviously did not check what was on my schedule and failed to cancel my appointment. when I called to see if I could reschedule I was told I was out the 140.00. I told them I understand that they are in business to make money and asked if they could refund anything beyond their actual expenses due to the unique circumstances. I even offered to show them a death certificate! There was no consideration- just a definitive quick no. I find this to be greedy and cold and I will never do business with KC and will tell my friends the same. what a shame- I try to support small businesses- but not those who choose run their business without integrity. read more

What a wonderful night. They hosted 30 adults from all over the country who were in town for an executive leadership program at Washington university. Boy did we enjoy ourselves. It was wonderful. Chef Mickey was the great. So helpful and kind. We made a beautiful meal, focaccia bread, marinated vegetables, spinach and mushroom polenta, flank steak, homemade roasted red pepper linguini with scallops and shrimp. We even made homemade ice cream bowls with blackberry gelato. Allllll from scratch. It was soooo yummy! I learned a lot and it was great to spend time as a team in a fun environment. And we left with all the recipes. I will recommend this to anyone coming to St. Louis looking for a fun night out! Date night, and even team building. They were so nice to accommodate a large group. We had a wonderful time! read more

We we treated as 2nd class citizens. The employees' responses (may have been the male and female owners) were curt and we were not offered the publication offering their onsite classes as the previous 2 customers had been upon checkout. This happens once in a while in Clayton, Webster Groves and West County in the St Louis area if you are not a resident in one of those areas. A fair number of the residents and employees in those areas there have the false notion that customers who do not match their own very limited style of dress or type of vehicle driven are not as valuable as themselves. It's unfortunate because they could be missing out on interesting and enlightening interactions by their own prejudice. read more

My husband and I signed up for a valentine's special class. The weather was bad, so we called and asked them to find someone on their "long waiting list" to take our place. They never found anyone, so we left the house and tried to get to the 6 pm class so we wouldn't lose our money. The roads were covered with snow and ice, and after we slid in the snow a couple of times and saw numerous cars that had skidded off the road, we turned around and went back home. It was not worth putting our lives in danger to get there. I called the next day to ask for not a refund but a credit for another class and the response was "well 22 other people managed to make it to class, sorry you couldn't make it". Now really, that is just bad business. Would they really have lost any money by giving us a credit when they already had 22 people show up? And how hard did they try to fill our spots? When we first signed up I called to inquire about having an alternative cooking oil because I am allergic to soybean oil. After arguing with the lady on the phone about "vegetable oil" and how it can be soybean oil, which she did not seem to believe me, I was told that they cannot accommodate a soybean allergy. Really? everywhere else I have taken a cooking class they always have alternatives like olive oil or canola oil. These are just bad business practices. There are other options in town. read more

My husband and I took a class. For the $55 price per person for a hands on class, we assumed we would be making the things listed on the description. Instead we were handed a recipe and got to make one of the items listed. The chef gave a few tips but you only were able to learn if he was helping your group. They have a broken food processor. At the end there was a tray of truffles left (most people left) , I was going to take one home (for a co-worker had been excited about me going and wanted to hear about it) , but a worker ran over to me and said "no, no, no" and grabbed the tray. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what we really paid $110 for. read more

I had such high hopes for this class, but left feeling disappointed. The instructor was enthusiastic and definitely knew her stuff. The instructor deserves an A+. I think that the format was lacking. The instructor could have definitely used an assistant of some sort since this was a "hand on" class. One instructor for 12 people simply did not work. We all had questions and it was difficult for her to get around to everyone - again, no fault of hers. I honestly feel like I would have learned more by simply watching her create the meal versus trying to get in there and help. Most attendees had blank stares and were not incredibly engaged. The environment felt stressed and so people just checked out. The teen washing the dishes was irritated and that carried over to the rest of the group. Someone set a hot tray near the sink and the teen burned herself. We were all yelled at by the person who initially checked us in which added to the stressful environment. I feel like overall it was a lackluster experience. I have had better classes at Dierberg's. I wish that I had read the Yelp reviews prior to signing up for this class. read more

I was referred to this cooking class by a co-worker however, when my fiancé and I attended the sushi class this evening we were a bit disappointed in how rude the cooking assistant Kate was to us. From the moment we walked into the door, she was very unpleasant and offered nothing but snarky commentary and her off putting demeanor. Gratefully, our instructor Jay, was amazing! He really knows his sushi. A bit long winded with instructions, but it was well worth the wait because my sushi rolls turned out beautifully. I will also recommend each student or set of students be given their own ingredients and supplies instead of sharing with the entire class. We all took turns in sets of 3's coming to the front to demonstrate our sushi roll techniques using our bare hands. Because I was the first one to prepare my roll, I felt comfortable in consuming the roll but we had a second turn to go up and again after the entire class had a turn, the water that we used to moisten our hands to allow an easier handle of the rice, was never changed nor was the ingredients but we were expected to consume this food we prepared. Rightfully so, the second sushi roll I prepared was only for looks because I refused to consume it. For the amount paid for this class, $140 for 2 people, I expected to be provided with enough resources where we weren't sharing each others germs. After-all we just got over a pandemic. Nonetheless, it was a ok experience but some changes are definitely needed. read more

Quick and dirty review of two Kitchen Conservatory classes. I took the seafood course a few years ago and the cake pop class last December. 1) Day long Fish and Seafood hands on course----expensive, but a good value. We started out at Bob's Seafood Market to select the fish and seafood. Interesting and a good way to begin the day. Back at the shop, we cooked a variety of items, including seafood stock, crab cakes, swordfish in a skillet, trout on a plank, and others, sampling along the way. Upsides--exposure to a number of techniques, recipes, preparations, etc. Very yummy tasting along the way. Limited class size ensures you get hands on experience. Downsides-very long, tiring day. I started to burn out around hour 3.5. Limited class size means you're with the same people for 5 hours. Some were friendly, others not so interactive. Bottom line: I would recommend the course to anyone very interested in seafood and fish. I would not recommend it to someone with marginal interest. 2) Christmas Cake Pops - took this class with my teenage daughter. We had a few experiences with cake pops, working from a book. We wanted to get some "professional" level instruction to make our pops look and taste better. We had fun, just being together, but the $55 price tag per person did not seem worth it. We picked up a couple of pointers, a great homemade chocolate cake recipe, and incentive to visit Karen Anne's for candy melts, etc Not quite worth the bucks. The class had a bunch of unattended kids, which made it feel somewhat like a babysitting activity. And, there were two adult friends who talked constantly, even while the instructor was presenting. Very annoying! And, they were SPRINKLE HOGS!!!! Very, very annoying. So, the whole evening felt somewhat amateur. Bottom line: I would not recommend this course. I think you could learn what you need to know from the cake pop book. FINAL comment: I'm still inclined to take another course, but I will be choosy and seek hands-on, adult-oriented (not that way!) courses. read more

The location has a small parking lot and if a class is happening don't plan on parking in the lot. Street parking with meters is just as easy, though. Purchased a baking pan with minimal labeling, discovered the hard way it wasn't dishwasher safe. You know, there's a reason they put labels on garments saying whether you can machine wash them: it's often not inherently obvious. Same here... unless you work at the Kitchen Conservancy, in which case the expectation is that *everyone* knows such things. Hello, it's 2012, not 1953. If I can't use the *default* method of cleaning something, it should say so on the label, and more importantly. you shouldn't try to make me feel stupid for not being able to somehow divine that. If I'm not worth your time, you don't deserve my business. If you're shopping for attitude, this is the place. Otherwise, go to Williams-Sonoma if you can't find it at a discount store. Update: Store owner (or manager) emailed with polite apology, and noted the proportion of items in the store that require hand washing was roughly 50%. She stated she tries to alert customers to that sort of thing, but that perhaps they were really busy at that moment and it didn't happen as it should. Restoring one star for effort. read more

My then fiance (now husband) took me to Kitchen Conservatory to celebrate my birthday. That night was rustic French couples cooking class. We had a small group and the tasks were divided among the couples. We made pomme frites (fries) from scratch by peeling the potatoes and slicing them with a mandolin. Other couples made the other dishes. There was this most wonderful bistro salad with ravigote dressing (salad greens, bacon, hard boiled eggs, champagne vinegar, capers, tarragon, dijon mustard and walnut oil). Never had walnut oil before and it was perfect. There was french onion soup with gruyere cheese and baguette slices. It was oh so oniony, creamy and cheesy. Dipped the baguette. Unbelievably good. Then there was steak au poivre verts with a demi glaze. Not a big fan of steaks, but it was good. Finally, there was a chocolate cream pot - heavy on the egg yolks, but oh so wonderful for the soul. The instructors were really nice and friendly. They went around the room checking in on everyone. We'd never used a mandolin before, so it was a learning experience. Then at dinnertime, we were served two types of wine to complement our meals. Overall the class was really fun and laid back, but classy. The kitchen smelled wonderful. The class was a whopping $140 per couple. A bit expensive, I think. But we had a great experience and came home with the recipes so we can prepare them again. read more

Everything you need for your kitchen. This place only carries the best knives, pots, processors, and other kitchen necessities. The staff is very helpful in helping you find exactly what you are looking for, and know the product line very intimately. The coolest thing about Kitchen Conservatory is that it it offers cooking classes. The cooking classes are generally well known chefs in the St. Louis area, or someone in the industry. The classes are small, but not hands on. The entire class is also showed on TVs so you never miss a thing. The only downfall of all this, luxury has a price. If you want the best money has to offer for all your kitchen needs check this place out! read more

This review is of a cooking class my husband and I took here. We received a gift certificate and were able to attend any class of our choice. They have a huge selection of classes and things to make. We chose a Paella date night class. We were taught the recipes to make Sangria, a seafood paella, and a chicken paella. First of all, for some reason I pictured going into a home ec. type situation with individual kitchens and tools. That is not the case. They have two kitchens, but a different class is being offered in each kitchen. The process for what you are cooking is explained step by step, but you only participate in one or two steps. The class had over 15 people in it, and so each person is delegated small tasks. (One person peels the potatoes and another person slices it, one person mans the oven, and another person squeezes lemons, etc.) I must say that this disappointed me, because you really don't lean many (if any) skills this way. The instructor did not really explain how the proper way to do said task was unless you were doing it incorrectly. I am not sure if the class would have been different had an actual Kitchen Conservatory staff instructor was teaching it, but we really didn't learn much from the chef. The classes are quite pricey, and while it was a fun experience, I would not spend the money again because the take away is small. I would recommend more individualized instruction and for more skills to be taught. read more

Really cute local place for all your cooking and baking needs... I took one cooking class here and signed up for 3 more... they're nice and helpful and provide everything for the class (as they should since the classes are not cheap!) For my mom's birthday we gifted my parents a night out here. They are apart of the vulnerable population that would be impacted by the corona virus and decided they didn't want to risk it. My sister and I both called to see if we could move the class or get credits for a new class, and were told no exceptions would be made. I am all for supporting small business but this women was rude. Even theaters are closing and she said the show must go on. It's a shame businesses can't be flexible in situations like this. Went to my first couples class night and had a great time. A lot different than the usual dinner and a movie date. Eight people to the class. Each couple makes one part of the meal (ie. app, entree, dessert, drink, sides). We did dessert. One alcoholic drink with dinner and you leave full. After completing the class you receive a 10% discount off any tools purchased. Wide variety of cookie cutters : ). The couples class gives you a little taste of a more in depth class. Literally Life Changing!! I just finished the Basics Skills class last night (the class is a 4 part series) and have nothing but great things to say about it! I received this class as a birthday present and it has definitely been a gift that keeps on giving! I have always wanted to cook more, but feel very uncomfortable around the kitchen with respects to technique, tools and ingredients. This class gave me the building blocks to basic skills needed to be a more proficient home cook. Barb, the instructor is very knowledgeable and Mike, the assistant makes the experience even more awesome. I look forward to class every week because I always leave so excited from learning something new and because I always get a big delicious dinner made with really fine ingredients during class!! I went from wasting money throwing away food I didn't know what to do with to in the words of my happy fiance, "Cooking like crazy!" The store at Kitchen Conservatory is also very addictive as well (you've been warned :) read more

Thanks to this place, I know how to make Donadas, how to make delicious French food, how to make gumbo, the proper way to cut and chop at least a dozen different foods, and a how to bake an array of delicious deserts. No, it's not that cheap, but the chefs are all great and they really know their stuff. They also have pretty much every little utensil, book, chopping instrument, spatulas, you name it and it goes even near your kitchen, they have it. In short if you looking to learn how to cook something new, check out the class schedule. It's also a really great thing for a mom and daughter to do together. I know I've always enjoyed taking classes with my mom and it's at least a short period where we will always get along. read more

This place is really nice! And you will learn things. You have the option of doing solo classes, signing up with a friend or more, or doing my personal fave - the couples classes. There are two types of classes offered: A. you just watch them cook and then eat. B. You get assigned one part of the dinner menu to cook and then eat. Often they have drinks to go along with the meals, and I don't mean water! Hot Damn!! You get sent home with the recipes for everything that was prepared in class and a coupon for a certain percentage off stuff in the store. Signing up for a class is a breeze (cheap it ain't but food is good), watching everyone cook can be entertaining in and of itself, and at the end its like having a big dinner party you don't have to clean up behind! We've done several classes now and will be going to another soon. read more

So my boyfriend's birthday was last week, and I wanted to give him a unique birthday present; something he had never done before. So I decided to sign us up for a cooking class. After researching a few other places that offered cooking classes (Viking and Dierberg's) I decided that Kitchen Conservatory would be my best bet due to the variety of classes. Signing us up for the class was a snap. On the day of class, we showed up, and everyone was SO friendly. Our instructor was actually a chef at LoRusso's, an Italian restaurant on the Hill. We were shown how to make pasta by hand, from start to finish. Everything was from scratch, and everything was DELICIOUS. The class was small enough that everyone had a chance to do some hands-on work. We both had a blast, and did I mention that the food was terrific? Because it really was! When we arrived for our class, they gave us a punch card; after 12 classes, you get to take a 13th one for free! Also, on the day of your class, you can buy anything in the Kitchen Conservatory store for 10% off. Not too bad, even though everything is pricey here. At $55 a person for the cooking class, it definitely wasn't cheap, but it was a memorable night. My boyfriend loved it, and so did I. read more

We have taken two classes here now. The first time was as a big family (over Thanksgiving) for a pizza course, which was fantastic. The last class we took was one of their date night series, which was even better! We did have a gift certificate, so that made the cost more affordable for us. Definitely not something we can do every weekend. Anne Cori led our Sri Lankan culinary adventure this past weekend. I gotta tell you, if you had bought me in at the end and told me that people like me cooked this meal, I would have called you a liar. We've tried one recipe at home so far, and it turned out okay (well, I didn't have an ingredient so I fudged it a little--my bad). It was a very fun 2.5-3 hours and delicious! We were soooooo full at the end. Let's see, we made samosas, chutney, chicken roti something, naan (NAAN!), and mango sorbet. Dinner also included a glass of wine and as always, there's water and tea available throughout. You also get a 10% discount for any items that you may wish to purchase from their store on the night of your class. Classes do tend to book up quickly. Reserving your spot online was a cinch. I think if you really want a particular class, you can also call them to put yourself on a wait list. Parking was easy. They have an adjacent lot with a few spaces and there's always street parking. We will definitely be back for more! read more

Disappointed in overall customer service. For a place that has such a strict cancellation policy (go read any of the other Yelp reviews), they quickly and rudely cancelled the class the day before because not enough people were signed up. In my experience, if not enough people were signed up they should have held the class with a smaller group. read more
