This is a place where friends are made. If you have ever been interested in signing up for a class…read moredon't hesitate. Doing improv has improved my life exponentially and I KNOW I'm a better person for it. You learn how to genuinely connect and listen to other people and I feel that is an art that has been lost since the pandemic. Go also to just see a show. You won't regret it.

First up: parking is plentiful and feels safe and secure. We arrived about 25 minutes before showtime and had a drink at the bar. They have a solid cocktail menu and full bar with plenty of local craft beer on tap. The kitchen closed when we visited. The bartender said it's undergoing a transition and will reopen in a week or two. Staff is friendly and welcoming. In the theatre are cabaret-style small tables and high-tops in back. Table service is discreet and unobtrusive; just tap the little light on the table and a server will come right over. I won't review the content of the show (though it was great !) because performers and troupes change regularly. This is long-form improv and the audience is invited to give suggestions a couple times a night, but no one is put on the spot or spoken to (or about) directly. The show we attended was PG-13ish in content; i'd advise checking notes on a particular performance before bringing children.

First things first: DO NOT TAKE CLASSES HERE THINKING YOU ARE GOING TO GET A JOB... It's just not…read moregoing to happen. This is a great place to go to learn how to make drinks, learn the history behind certain drinks and alcohols and basically learn bar etiquette. But one of the key enticements they offer is their "lifetime job placement assistance". Now, the wording here is the key: see, they don't actually PLACE you anywhere. They simply give you a log-in to a database where jobs are listed. Then you go, apply for those jobs and the interviewer raises an eyebrow at your audacity that you have NO bartending experience and wanted to work at their establishment. See, bartending school isn't the magic "in" you thought it was. You're not going to graduate, find a job right away and the cash tips aren't just going to unfurl on you. Like most other jobs, people want you to have experience, but no one wants to give you your first shot (and take a chance on you) in order for you to GET that experience; it's a terrible catch-22. Most jobs you apply at will reject you outright, offer you a position as a barback or waitress/waiter and have you work your way up or they MIGHT (and that's a big "might") consider you, but they will give you a "bartending exam", which will look incredibly similar to the written mid-term and final the STL Bartending Institute gives you, only it's longer and much more intensive. (Incidentally, the STL Bartending Institute's curriculum covers mixed drinks in great detail, but only skates over beer and wine in a day... These are two things that are intensely covered in the exams most corporate bars will give you as a prerequisite for employment). I'm not saying don't take classes here (or pay the $425 for them), I'm just saying be realistic about the results. Other people will sway you entirely away from bartending school (like the moronic article "Ask Your Bartender: Bartending Schools" by Jefferey Morgenthaler) and tell you that there are other ways of sneaking into the bar system, but the bottom line is this: most corporate bars want experience and want you to work your way up and (from what I gather) most small, neighborhood and dive bars are a pretty close nit bunch and are not easily infiltrated. Only you can decide if it's worth the money and the time (40 hours, 4 hour classes 5 days a week for two weeks) and effort. I'm just telling you what you can likely expect.

My research brought me here to Pappy's. I'm very glad it did. Ambiance starts with a line out the door, literally. You slowly shuffle down a long hallway full of Pappy's memorabilia. Then you make it to the ordering counter, order, and find a table. The dining room is huge, plenty of tables, with a full complement of sauces on each table. The service people at the counter were friendly, and so were the people delivering the food. The food came out quick and hot and delicious. We had baked beans and potato salad for sides, and they were pretty solid. Nothing show-stealing, but no complaints about them whatsoever. And of course, we got the ribs. Tender, juicy, a nice bite and chew, a decent bark, just a really wonderful rib. Better than any St. Louis style rib I've ever had back home in Florida. Other states, hard to say, the jury's out, but in that moment, I was eating a five-star rib. So good. We also got a 1/4 pound of the Burnt Ends. Usually, burnt ends are the king of meats, but I think we've entered the phase of America, where they're just another variety of meat and not necessarily upper echelon anymore. That being said, these were pretty ok. Should have gotten more ribs. Overall, Pappy's was pretty wow. Great local spot with a lot of pride and history, excellent ribs, I will definitely try to come back next time I'm in town.

As good as advertised…read more.. We've only been to the Pappy's in St. Peter's, but the STL location is equally as good... It's not hard to see why The Food Network rated Pappy's as the "#1 rib joint in the country", as this place is next level bbq. You can smell the bbq from down the street and it will instantly make you hungry, even if you just ate... The place has the "cool bbq joint vibes", the employees are ultra-friendly, and it's fair/reasonable priced based on the quality of the food (runs between $40-50 for two people). Strongly recommend getting ribs, but their smoked chicken and turkey are outstanding as well. I didn't love their original bbq sauce (it was too thick and sweet with a heavy molasses flavor), but the hoodoo spicy sauce was out of this world. I would put Pappy's up against some of the other big named bbq joints in the country and they'd hold their own... Definitely worth the stop when in STL.

From the very beginning, I knew that with Christina and her attentive team that we would be in great hands. The venue (612North) is housed in the once estate of Henry Shaw (Missouri Botanical Gardens). The look and feel of this venue is very a very on-trend and chic-poured floor, exposed brick sort of gig. The killers are the very tall picture windows on three sides which view is the newly face-lifted Gateway Arch. It was very fun to hear the gasps as people caught the sights and realized they could "almost touch The Arch". 612North Catering: Foodstuffs are created by the talent behind Drunken Fish...yes, their bespoke sushi is available, but also many other flavors and textures that show Drunken Fish and associated companies to be au courant and very formidable in St. Louis party eats. Macaroni and Cheese with shards of bacon, hot sauce or other mix ins. Crispy pillowed pot-stickers dipped in salty-sweet ginger goodness. Most memorable for me was their Flatbread Board. Flatbread pieces topped with varied things creating the perfect finger food. Tops in my book was a mellow Bechamel and Caramelized Onion, Gruyere and Thyme melded perfectly on a tender crust. Items of course can be tailored for your needs and desires. Once the party was humming along there was nothing for me to worry about. A major plus. Working with Christina was a dream. Communication was open and responses immediate. A (patrolled) public parking lot is mere feet from the entrance so attendees need not worry. Coat check included. If you want a fun, hip gathering place, 612North is happening and it's happening in Downtown's Laclede's Landing. There is no doubt we will use again.

The district manager came out and did zero to make things right except for bring over a new booster chair he smiled in our faces and seemed like he could absolutely care less. We didn't hear from him for the rest of the time that we were there. We will never come back.

Our extended family is a big fan of Favazza's, so we go from time to time with them. We went last week with my Aunt & Uncle, and it was great. The dining room(s) are charming, but getting a bit dated, in all honesty. Since it's on "The Hill", it's not necessarily an issue, but in any other neighborhood, I think others would agree with me that it needs some sprucing up. Regardless, the ambiance has a fancy and classy feel to it. The service we had was fine. Everyone is dressed up and respectful, but sometimes the service lacks personality at these places because they're so worried about being "ritzy". This is the case we had last week. Regardless, also a fine experience in this category. The food was DELICIOUS last week. We started with the Toasted Ravioli. You can tell it's the real-deal -- the filling is excellent. Our entrees were also phenomenal. I got the Chicken Limone and it was tangy and luscious. Genuinely one of the best Italian dishes I've had before. The dinner salads, side pasta and phenomenal garlic bread were an added bonus. Favazza's may be older and their service may lack personality, but their food is nothing to scoff at. A very solid 4 Stars from me.

We sat outside in the patio area, which in mid April can be a good thing or a bad thing in St. Louis. For us it was a very good thing, the outside is very comfortable and the server was very attentive. My main dish was the chicken marsala. It was very good and prepared well, but the flavor wasn't quite as strong as I've encountered back east in Italian restaurants in New York or Boston. This is not a bad thing, it was just different, and I enjoyed the dish very much. The side of pasta was very good as well. Everyone at the table was very content with their meal and I was too. I'd definitely stop back the next time I'm in town.
