Tried two of the cocktails at Alter Ego. Overall, both have different vibes. Alter Ego is good for a more intimate dark setting date vibe. Service was pretty good at Still OG! The Asian bartender checked in several times and was really nice as well as provided some recommendations on which happy hour specials were most popular which helps since I'm indecisive. The back does seem like a more classy environment and I'd choose this setting over a dive bar any day. The music at still OG that they were playing at the time wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure they mix it up from time to time. I would love to hear some oldies!

All cocktails are on tap, which actually ended up being great because I was between a few of them and the bartender was able to give me samples of them. We also ended up getting an order of the Chicken skewers, which were super tender and juicy. We were too late on our visit, but they do have a daily happy hour that includes some of the skewers and fries, as well as some drinks and shots. Service was super friendly and vibes and music were great! Cocktails, weren't the best since they were on tap, but still good enough! I would absolutely come back here for a drink and snack though!

Not only did the bartenders help guests sitting at the bar, but they walked around checking on everyone in the lounge seating, and showed that they cared about the customer experience. They messed up on the first pair of drinks we ordered, but comped our second set of cocktails which they made ten times better. We really appreciated this. Adding to our lovely evening, the live music created just the right vibe. Mike Annuzzi, who plays here weekly, showcased some incredible talent on the guitar and vocals, performing great tunes including a jazzy rendition of Michael Jackson's Human Nature, Fly Me to the Moon, as well as some Richard Marx, Now and Forever. Sometimes we take good music for granted, but I don't want to forget the simple moments that create smiles. W XYZ in Sunnyvale features not just an awesome musician, but an excellent sound system too, with suitable volume and clarity, to go along with soothing melodies that ease your mind. They have a separate menu for wine and champagne that they brought us awhile later. I think you may need to ask for that if they don't give that to you right away. The drinks were delicious and made pretty quickly, but if you expect table service at this lounge, you may be waiting a long time. We found that the best way to get drinks here is to go to the bar to order, and they can bring the drinks over (or you can wait for them, of course). For the price, I'd expect better service but you may need to go further than Sunnyvale. Overall I think Nokori is a decent bar lounge, and I love the niche is on Japanese whiskey.

Throughout the dinner, her demeanor felt very passive aggressive, and there were several moments where we felt like we were being given attitude despite everyone in our group being polite. My friend asked for extra olives with his martini and she responded with a rude "Really?" while making a face. It was such an unnecessary reaction to a totally simple and normal request. She also recommended that we order family style, which we followed, but the pacing between courses was extremely slow. We waited around 30+ minutes between our pasta and our protein entrees. For a restaurant that specifically recommends family style dining, the courses should be paced more appropriately so the table isn't sitting around waiting for the next round of food. The birthday cake situation was also frustrating. We had given our cake to the hostess when we arrived, but I guess our server was never notified of that. When I asked about a candle, she said she would bring it out with the birthday dessert, but brought out the restaurant's dessert instead. When she realized we had our own cake, she immediately took the bill back and said she needed to add the cake fee. The issue with that was we weren't asking them to cut or plate the cake. We just wanted to sing Happy Birthday, then have it boxed back up. She had assumed we wanted the cake service without actually asking us, and when we clarified, her response was, "Well, that's why I asked earlier," even though she hadn't actually asked us. None of us gave her a hard time or were anything but polite throughout the evening, which made the repeated attitude especially disappointing. The food wasn't terrible and the drinks were great, the restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, but spending around $900, which included a 20% automatic gratuity, you'd expect the service to match the price point, even though service should always be good regardless. Unfortunately, the poor service really overshadowed what was supposed to be a nice birthday dinner for my friend and left all of us with a bad taste in our mouths.
