We signed a contract with them to do complete remodels of a full bath and powder room in early June. Finally they called to say the material had come in and they could start right after Labor Day. At 6 pm on day one, after they had demolished the powder room, the owner Verlissa called me in a complete panic saying she couldn't find our countertops anywhere in the 3 cm depth specified; she could only find 2 cm. I asked if that would cost less, and she said no, since the manufacturer only makes it in 3 cm and mills it down to 2 cm (what???). She finally located countertop material at the end of the week. The work that followed was marked repeatedly by work that had to be redone because it was sloppy and/or substandard. Examples: bubbling paint because they painted over drywall repairs too soon (happened twice); subcontractor was having difficulty getting a nice edge between the tub surround tile and drywall so he decided to cover the edge with a piece of painted wood trim; oddly placed floating shelves, towel rods and plumbing fixtures that had to be remounted, resulting in additional (poorly done) repairs to tile, paint and drywall; scratches and gouges in our new tub because workers stored all their equipment and tools in it with no protection; ripped veneer in cabinet interiors (which worker than proceeded to "cover up" with plywood); gouges in our window ledges; a chip in the floor tile; floating shelf chipped and scratched on installation. I could go on. There was no oversight of the work by Verlissa and it was apparent there was little to no communication between her and the workers. We finally told them we would finish repairs that needed to be done because we just wanted them out of our house. I would say run in another direction.

This is a terrible company. Difficult process. Highly inflexible. Go elsewhere if you want decent regard for you as a customer

In the end, a functional bathroom was installed. I had higher expectations and was disappointed. Save yourself the frustration.

Verlissa helped us design our house including a complete kitchen redo and 3 bathrooms, and painted the whole house.

They were friendly, easy to work with, and had great ideas that really improved the design. Everything turned out even better than we hoped--beautiful, practical, and done with real attention to detail. We actually enjoyed the process (which you don't usually say about a remodel!). Definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about updating their home.

In all good conscience, we could never recommend Aslan Design and Renovation to anyone. We had…read moreseveral issues with Aslan; two issues in particular demonstrate their indifference towards us and the quality of their workmanship. Part of the project was the installation of hardware on new kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors. When the cabinet hardware was initially installed, the handles were misaligned and the cabinet doors were splintered. We brought this unsatisfactory workmanship to their attention and demanded that the damaged cabinet doors be replaced. The owner of Aslan concurred with our assessment that the work was indeed unacceptable and assured us that they would "make it right". Though we repeatedly brought up this issue with the project manager, our concerns were ignored. Finally, in the last week of the project, the project manager unilaterally announced that he would "make it right" by plugging holes created when hardware had been misaligned and by patching up splinters created when holes were drilled. We disagreed and had to fervently remind the project manager that we were paying for new cabinets with properly installed hardware, not doors with patched splinters and plugged holes. Under duress, they were held accountable for the substandard work and replaced all cabinet doors that had been marred. Aslan's indifference was once again displayed when it came time to finish the punch list items. There were several issues on our punch list which we brought to Aslan's attention. We gave them at least 3 opportunities to complete the list. When they failed to do so, we had to hire a different contactor to complete the contract. The new contractor did things right the first time.

The Kitchen Studio popped up in my google search as being a local dealer of the specific higher end material I wanted. Upon arrival, an employee told me "they don't do just countertops". Okay. That isn't clear on their website. Then she went on to tell me she can't think of anywhere in the area to refer me that "just does counters". First, of all, there are at least 10 countertop fabricators within a 10 mile radius of Glen Ellyn. Someone in the industry should know this. Second, I'm sure the Kitchen Studio has an in house fabricator or they subcontract it out to someone local (most likely) and thus, why on earth would you not give this person my business??? I have a fairly large kitchen and master vanity. My quotes from the other local fabricators, who do, in fact, exist, are coming in at $120/sq foot and up. I'm giving 2 stars instead of one because all their kitchens on houzz are truly lovely and I'm sure if you hire them they would design a beautiful kitchen.

However when cost estimates were developed for contract signing for the project implementation phase, her personal fees were 3 times of what they should have been per our retainer agreement. When I pointed out the retainer terms, instead of correcting, they sent me a new retainer document and told me their process has changed. The change is permanent and sometimes there is a little fallout like this. These were Susan's words in her email to me. I took them to court ( case#2019SR000483 in Dupage county) to get my money back which I did. Susan herself is talented and personable but her business partner and company co-owner's dealings are disappointing and ignorant of basic business ethics. Susan kept saying he handles all money and pricing aspects. I had to walk away! Update 1/10/2020: I stand by my comments and the fact that you completely disavowed the terms of retainer and when I pointed out the pricing terms that we agreed to In the retainer, you emailed me a new retainer document with all pricing terms removed from it. I would have never signed anything or paid you $7k based on that new retainer devoid of any specifics. This was an act of complete lack of integrity. If you are serious about building reputation, practicing integrity will help. Good luck

Several years ago, our house caught fire by a lightning strike and to make a long story short, the builder hired to rebuild it came up short on the quality and workmanship side of things. My wife and I were not happy with the results they left us with, so we hired a different company to come in and "fix" the bath. I won't name them, but they were even worse than the builders we originally had. So at this point we had an unusable master bath that was worked on twice and cost us thousands of dollars. We found the Kitchen Master and liked what we saw on their web page so we contacted them to help us with our hopeless master bath once and for all. From our first meeting with our designer, Anna, everything just went unbelievably smoothly. She guided us through all of our selection choices and helped us to pick out the items we were on the fence about, right in their showroom. The actual demolition and re-construction work was completed by Josh. We've dealt with quite a few contractors over the years and unfortunately, most of them we were not happy with but Josh was terrific. A professional through and through, he had the knowledge to get the work done quickly and at a high level of quality. Everything that was done, all the tile work, the custom glass shower and the installation of our new vanity counter looks absolutely amazing. His attention to detail was remarkable and the work he did to get things done right, did not go unnoticed by us. Tom our project manager, always kept us up to date with scheduling the work, and was in constant contact with us to let us know what would happen with the job at any given time. He was a great point of contact and never failed to answer our questions and return our calls or emails. We always knew what was happening with our remodel and never felt out of the loop in any way. Everyone we worked with at the Kitchen Master treated us with respect and put us at ease with their knowledge and level of professionalism. From the start we felt like we were in good hands. If and when we decide to remodel another bathroom, we will not hesitate to call on them. It's nice to finally feel like we've found a high quality team to work with that we can trust. Thank you Kitchen Master!
