Since that time, we've experimented with other local contractors will less than remarkable results to downright, head-scratching disappointment. When we made the decision to overhaul the house in preparation for retirement, we returned to Drury Design and were once again delighted by their performance. Everybody we worked with from Gail Drury, the showroom folks through the subcontractors that did the work were fun, easy to work with, helpful and above all great communicators. We always knew what the schedule was. They always addressed our concerns and they made suggestions along the way. Just the fact that we would get a prompt acknowledgement of our emails made us feel like we were important to the company. Their follow through proved it. It was great fun to go through Drury's design process. They made sure we were aware of all the options we had, yet guided us with budget and design in mind. We were shown all the newest innovations but also the practical and economical as well. By creating and reviewing drawings with us, we were able to visualize our new living space and think through the smallest details that really made it special. Since we were doing essentially the entire house, we wanted a consistency in design and feel. And, even though we worked through the house in four stages over two years, Drury's attention to that goal produced exactly what we were hoping for. Our builder's tract home came without straight walls or level floors, but their skilled subcontractors were able to prepare walls and floors to accommodate the demands of geometric tile patterns. As these unknowns appeared, Drury design personnel and subcontractors met us at the house promptly to work out the best solution. We highly recommend Drury Design for any interior construction project for new or remodeled homes.

First we hired Best to fix a cracked water seal pan in the upstairs standup shower...they fixed it to perfection while completely rebuilding the shower, the tiles, and the pipes. This time - we hired Best to do a complete bathroom renovation... I just continue to be blown away by the owner - Steve Best. His communication is what sets him apart from every other contractor. He's basically a customer's dream to partner with on a project. Rebecca at the office emails you for the admin side - keeping aligned with updates and transactions. Steve texts/calls you almost daily with the gameplan, the strategic approach, the agenda and schedule. I'm so thankful because unlike most contractors, Steve keeps everything on schedule - running daily - and makes sure his team gets to the finish line efficiently, quickly, and to satisfaction. Steve's crew works every day...and they put in a full day's work. They don't leave you hanging, they don't ghost you for days upon weeks without explanation and they NEVER leave a mess. In all good conscience, we could never recommend Aslan Design and Renovation to anyone. We had…read moreseveral issues with Aslan; two issues in particular demonstrate their indifference towards us and the quality of their workmanship. Part of the project was the installation of hardware on new kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors. When the cabinet hardware was initially installed, the handles were misaligned and the cabinet doors were splintered. We brought this unsatisfactory workmanship to their attention and demanded that the damaged cabinet doors be replaced. The owner of Aslan concurred with our assessment that the work was indeed unacceptable and assured us that they would "make it right". Though we repeatedly brought up this issue with the project manager, our concerns were ignored. Finally, in the last week of the project, the project manager unilaterally announced that he would "make it right" by plugging holes created when hardware had been misaligned and by patching up splinters created when holes were drilled. We disagreed and had to fervently remind the project manager that we were paying for new cabinets with properly installed hardware, not doors with patched splinters and plugged holes. Under duress, they were held accountable for the substandard work and replaced all cabinet doors that had been marred. Aslan's indifference was once again displayed when it came time to finish the punch list items. There were several issues on our punch list which we brought to Aslan's attention. We gave them at least 3 opportunities to complete the list. When they failed to do so, we had to hire a different contactor to complete the contract. The new contractor did things right the first time.

There are a lot of moving parts to this type of project from ideas, design, materials, outside contractors, etc. One should expect the usual delays that come along with any project. The reason why we went with Kitchen Studios is because we did not have the time nor the patience to manage the hundreds of details required and we had a friend who used them and were quite pleased. The three things a homeowner must focus on in out sourcing this type of project is: 1. The creativity and utility of the design 2. The skill sets of the contractors deployed 3. Communication of cost impact to the project from changes and unforeseen surprises. In our estimation Kitchen Studios excelled in the design phase. We met often and were shown numerous options for color, style and design. We were very pleased with the final layout of the Master Bathroom. Susan is very gifted as a design artist. She helped us visualize what we were imagining. She got to know us as people and was able to design exactly what we wanted in a master bath. She was never pushy or overbearing. The contractors were professional, had attention to detail and skilled at what they did. There were times we had to wait extra days to fit into their schedule which pushed back the completion date. But to us, quality was more important than time and Kitchen Studios accomplished that. We had determined a budget we wanted to stick to and Susan was very mindful of that. However, there are always changes that impact your cost basis. Its very important that a detailed accounting be understood by both sides. We feel Jeff did a very good job in keeping track of all the changes and Susan did a great job in keeping us close to our budget. The Kitchen Studio popped up in my google search as being a local dealer of the specific higher end material I wanted. Upon arrival, an employee told me "they don't do just countertops". Okay. That isn't clear on their website. Then she went on to tell me she can't think of anywhere in the area to refer me that "just does counters". First, of all, there are at least 10 countertop fabricators within a 10 mile radius of Glen Ellyn. Someone in the industry should know this. Second, I'm sure the Kitchen Studio has an in house fabricator or they subcontract it out to someone local (most likely) and thus, why on earth would you not give this person my business??? I have a fairly large kitchen and master vanity. My quotes from the other local fabricators, who do, in fact, exist, are coming in at $120/sq foot and up. I'm giving 2 stars instead of one because all their kitchens on houzz are truly lovely and I'm sure if you hire them they would design a beautiful kitchen.

Several years ago, our house caught fire by a lightning strike and to make a long story short, the builder hired to rebuild it came up short on the quality and workmanship side of things. My wife and I were not happy with the results they left us with, so we hired a different company to come in and "fix" the bath. I won't name them, but they were even worse than the builders we originally had. So at this point we had an unusable master bath that was worked on twice and cost us thousands of dollars. We found the Kitchen Master and liked what we saw on their web page so we contacted them to help us with our hopeless master bath once and for all. From our first meeting with our designer, Anna, everything just went unbelievably smoothly. She guided us through all of our selection choices and helped us to pick out the items we were on the fence about, right in their showroom. The actual demolition and re-construction work was completed by Josh. We've dealt with quite a few contractors over the years and unfortunately, most of them we were not happy with but Josh was terrific. A professional through and through, he had the knowledge to get the work done quickly and at a high level of quality. Everything that was done, all the tile work, the custom glass shower and the installation of our new vanity counter looks absolutely amazing. His attention to detail was remarkable and the work he did to get things done right, did not go unnoticed by us. Tom our project manager, always kept us up to date with scheduling the work, and was in constant contact with us to let us know what would happen with the job at any given time. He was a great point of contact and never failed to answer our questions and return our calls or emails. We always knew what was happening with our remodel and never felt out of the loop in any way. Everyone we worked with at the Kitchen Master treated us with respect and put us at ease with their knowledge and level of professionalism. From the start we felt like we were in good hands. If and when we decide to remodel another bathroom, we will not hesitate to call on them. It's nice to finally feel like we've found a high quality team to work with that we can trust. She was quick to answer questions, helped us design a counter and cabinet structure that would work best for our daughters' bathroom and followed up with our contractor when one cabinet door arrived less than stellar. Their showroom is quite lovely and you can get a nice picture of what your potential kitchen/bath will look like when all is said and done. Yes, we paid extra for our white cabs, but the quality is there, it looks awesome with the new counters, and said cabinets were crafted just a few states over. #worthit

I've been thinking of remodeling my kitchen for at least 10 years. The process started by sitting…read moredown at Lowe's with one of their kitchen designers and getting a free layout and cabinet estimate. Over the next 10 years I took that Lowe's layout to no less than a dozen cabinet companies to get their pricing. The pricing always came in around $10,000+ (except for one importer who sold cheap, rather than good cabinets in a limited number of styles and colors. None of which we liked.) Then a month ago, driving north on Gary avenue in Carol Stream I just happened to spot this place and thought I'd try again to price out the Lowe's design because we were now ready to do something. I went into the place and immediately started walking around. I didn't wait for a sales person because I wasn't sure if I'd like the place and didn't want some fast-talking salesman to start accosting me for my business. I'd looked for a few minutes before I was approached by Jim, a pleasant older gentleman. He was nice so I told him what I was looking for and we casually discussed a few options. I told him I had the Lowe's kitchen design and he said he'd be happy to price it out with the cabinets I liked (he didn't want to see their pricing). I emailed him the design minus the prices and he came back with some design drawings. We talked some more over email and I asked him to stop by my house to see my kitchen. He did and we had a great conversation and we got ideas for other ways to do the kitchen. After looking at the kitchen, Jim put together everything we liked, added in the monthly manufacturer promotions, and ended up THOUSANDS less than any other quality cabinet place. So today we visited the showroom to go over every part of the cabinet order before putting down a deposit. After all was said and done, even after we added many pullout drawers, did some upgrading and getting some trim pieces (not on the original Lowe's design), he beat my 10 year old barebones Lowe's kitchen design price by over $1,500! I can't recommend Jim and this place strongly enough. (I'll let you know if things don't go smoothly once we receive the cabinets.)
