The historical aspect of this part of the castle is particularly interesting, and we appreciated the history lesson given to us by our dinner server. The decor is in a similar style to the rest of the castle and is beautiful, extravagant, and well kept. Service was friendly but very slow for both meals. They have gluten-free options making ordering, if you're celiac, quite easy. Food was beautifully presented, and everything was good, but nothing really blew us away as far as our experiences with gourmet fine dining goes. It was all done well and innovative, but flavors were unexciting. Plating was marvelous. Prices are high. Breakfast was nice and came with our room due to how we booked. There was a mix-up with my food, and by the time I got my plate, my husband had been done eating for some time. It was a good breakfast, tho. Overall, it was a nice dining room of a caliber you would expect in this type of hotel.

Elegant interior, feeling of being a royalty. We decided to do a la cart. I ordered doonbeg crab which was delicious, my BF had mushroom which presented like an art piece and taste like one as well. We both ordered cod and it was crispy outside and soft inside, just the way I like it. For dessert, I had apricot soufflé which was yummy. Must try restaurant when you are in Ashford Castle or near by.

Lovely place adjacent to Ashford castle. My husband had Peri Peri chicken which I thought was…read morestrange at a seafood restaurant but it was delicious. Probably the best chicken we've ever tasted. South African flavors dominate their menu and they're seriously good. The chicken was moist and meaty and the spice rub was perfection. Slightly spicy without being over powering. I had the seafood chowder that they bring with delicious brown bread and an extra serving of the chowder on the side. I couldn't finish it even with hubbys help. The wait staff is attentive and kind. Good win selection as well. Cottage is warm and inviting with a large fireplace centered perfectly. Ashford castle must have tipped them off that we had just celebrated an anniversary as they brought us a delicious dessert that we were way too full to eat so they graciously boxed it up for us. The whole atmosphere of the castle and the cottage as well as Cong Village is picture postcard Ireland. Quaint and definitely worth a visit!

This is a more relaxed alternative to dining in the Ashford castle (George V dining experience for…read moreexample is much more formal) and this endearing thatched roofed cottage reminds the visitor of a fishing village house with a boat suspended right inside the seating area above the bar The strength is definitely seafood The seafood chowder is very creamy and really quite a substantial appetizer I tried the lobster and prawn risotto which has baby fennel, celery, and Parmesan crisps. I held the panchetta. The saffron is not really visible in the seafood pappardelle but it is also a heavy dish indeed Very creamy (that is definitely the theme!) with mussels, prawns, clams, samphire garlic with estate chilli and lemon cream) The service is prompt, courteous and informed. They are very well versed about the nuances of the dishes on the menu A short walk from the castle if you're staying there, just across the bridge It may help to hold the amount of cream to let the seafood stand on its own a bit in my humble non-expert opinion

Coming from Dublin, on our…read moreway through Connemara, we were fading fast, intimidated by the speed and size of small country roads and realizing we needed to eat before going to our Airbnb for the night. A drive through the tiny, quaint main street of Oughterard told us we were in the right spot. We found street parking and after perusing the prices of a few places, decided the the restaurant of Boat Inn was affordable and welcoming. The dining room was mostly locals (a good sign) and we ordered the fish and chips plate. It had a great presentation and came with delicious, not overly oily fish, chips, mushy peas (well seasoned) and two types of salad-a crunchy, creamy Cole slaw, and a spinach salad. Very filling, and probably the best fish and chips we tried on our 2 week tour of Ireland and Scotland. The severs were also very friendly and on the attentive side, and even helped us out with the tricky pronunciation of the small town. We went on our way, bellies full and countenance brightened, ready for the rest of the drive. If I'm through that area again, I won't hesitate to stop for another meal or perhaps even stay at the Inn.

I arrived around 6:30 and the parking lot was packed, I assume from the dinner rush from the restaurant next to it. When I came back home after dinner, I was disappointed to find out that the radiator was not working (I also later found out that they turn it off from midnight - 6am which doesn't make sense to me since those are the coldest hours). It is cold outside, so I was thankfully that I packed a sweater to wear during sleep. The most annoying thing is that the shower water does not get hot. It only stays warm, so if you like hot washers, you'll have to adjust to the cold/warm water only. The only way to communicate with the manager is through phone call- so if you're traveling internationally it's almost impossible to communicate them since they don't reply on Airbnb chat right away. I do think the room is nice and clean, and the bathroom is a decent size. If it wasn't for the issues with heating, I would recommend this place. Muffins: The apple crumble muffin looks delicious and it does have apple inside, but it tasted like it could have been baked for 5 minutes more. The walnut muffin has what seemed like Dulce de leche - I enjoyed this one more than the apple one.
