I sued to live in Galway "a long time ago". At the time, Galway was noted for Macnas, The Arts festival, The Quays and rain. Lots of rain.
It was not noted as a place to get a good meal, for some strange reason. And at the time, The Malt House was one of the only "real" restaurants around. It was good, kinda stuffy or formal, but good. As colleagues would have said then: "you'd get a good steak there at the Malt House". Grand.
Well recently we had a few days back in Galway and ate and drank our way through the town. Tried the Malt House for lunch, just for old times sake. It was sunny, it was Summer, and we could eat outside, so we did.
And buy were we glad we did. Top class lunch for two of us, with seafod as the theme (Fish & chips for one of us, mussels for the other, plus a shared starter of a tian of quinoa salad, no less!). The food was brilliant, and in particular the quality of the fish was just perfect, really fresh, perfectly cooked, everything you want in a fish lunch.
If you're not a fish eater, don't worry - as the menu looked pretty substantial, with someone for everyone, including yes, steak :-)
Would recommend it, and would go back to try dinner some evening. read more
