stayed 3 nights at the barracks inn! ate here every morning with no hesitation among my group. Do yourself a favor and do not underestimate the bagel. I love bagel sandwiches. This bagel beat out every other i've had, new york included. The mini fry was also awesome. loved th white pudding and hash and bacon and all of it! not pictured but the waffles are real good too! not as jawdropping but a good belgian waffle nonetheless. But go with the bagel or the fry. It'll change you. Every morning i drank a whole tea and it was always incredible. Strongly recommend this place to any and every traveler. Great atmosphere, music selection, kind staff, and wonderful rooms if you're staying overnight. :) read more

On vacation for 8 days in Ireland with my girlfriend and stayed 6 nights at The Lodge at the Old Barracks and couldn't have been more happy with my choice. The room was well updated and cozy. Each morning we had full complimentary breakfast across the street at the Barracks restaurant that was included with our room. Scott runs a very hospitable business and his passion for customer service shows through his staff. Michael was awesome, not only was he the one received us at 7pm, checked us in and showed us our room, he was also working each morning in the restaurant and helped us plan our daily journeys around the Galway area. Everyone we met were very attentive , kind and helpful. Next door to the Lodge, The Stone House Pizza had awesome food as well and is the one place we found that serves a true cocktail. I highly recommend staying at the Lodge at The Old Barracks to anyone who likes a local vibe and hospitality. After our fantastic experience I would never consider staying anywhere else when visiting the Galway area. read more

Excellent stop off on the way to Galway. A few things: First things first, if you want a pint, you'll have to get it across the street and bring it back. They do not serve beer here, just wine. Just go there first, tell them you are dining across the street, and walk on over. Have the fish and chips. It's not the usual breading, think more of a bread crumb/crispy bite with some serious texture. A bit more like chicken tenders, or "chicken fingers" as we call them in the states. The tartar sauce is perfection. The seafood chowder is interesting. I am not a huge seafood fan, so was surprised when I bit into so salmon in my chowder, and it's a bit plain if you are used to American clam chowder, but it's very, very good. Add some pepper to spice it up a bit. Just be prepared for multiple kinds of fish and a few mussels/oyster like creatures. Our waitress was an absolute doll. She was pleasant and attentive and had a gen-yew-wine Irish accent. They are all great people. You will need to pay at the register. Don't wait around for your bill, the locals look at you funny. Purchase a baked treat when you leave and don't forget to enjoy the brown bread... it's baked fresh and it's as good as it smells. And breathe, you're almost in Galway! read more

Popular (especially on a Sunday morning when few other places are serving food) and lively cafe & shop selling local produce. Try and get a seat at one of the two rear tables as the banter between the chefs & waiting staff around the kitchen is an enjoyable bonus. Rather an odd set-up in as far as the toaster is outside of the kitchen in the charge of the waiting staff but otherwise a straightforward place with good service and quality food, particularly the poached eggs. read more

We've got hungry on our way from Dublin to Clifden and we stopped for brunch (breakfast/small lunch). We had traditional Irish breakfast and delicious Pancakes. Food was really good, fresh and tasty. On the table is served fresh milk. Stuff was nice and friendly. Prices are reasonable 10€ for big plate of Irish breakfast, 6€ for pancakes and 2,9 for latte. We would definitely visit old Barracks again. read more

Great lunch spot. Stopped by on St. Patrick's day on our way back to Dublin. Great soups, sandwiches and a wonderful display case of baked goods. Very friendly service and an easy place to bring the whole family. A great alternative to stopping at some roadway service station. I'd highly recommend getting off the motorway in Athenry for this place! read more

We are vacationing from Boston and just happened upon the Old Barracks our first night here. What a find !!!!!I. It was excellent!! We each chose a different selection and not only did each meal look fabulous - every single one was absolutely delicious ! That was 2 days ago and we are STILL talking about it ! The staff was so friendly and accommodating to any questions and requests ! We wish we had more time to return but would highly recommend Old Barracks as a place not to be missed ! 3 years ago we ordered a christening cake from the old Barracks. The cake was fine but the writing said Happy Crickning day. We let that one pass. So for my daughters commuion day tomorrow we ordered a cake through the supermarket Joyces. Unfortunately it was being made by the old Barracks. I ordered it a week in advance and was told to arrive today at 5 to pick it up. When my husband went to pick it up we were told the old barracks had lost our cake order. So the supermarket was so embarrassed they apoligised profusely and gave us a cake and icing to try and create a cake ourselves for tomorrow. My mother has now made an iced cake from these. But 5 mins ago the old barracks rang and gave out to us because we had not picked up our cake!They were incensed when we said we would not pay for it as they had said to the supermarket they had not made our cake.We are refusing the cake entirely and will not pick it up. I will never use this restaurant/pantry again and do not recommend them at all due to their unreliability twice in my experience. They do not in any way deliver what they promise. read more
