Stopped in for lunch in while we made a quick stop in Galway. We were a bit early for lunch, but they seated us and brought us coffee and tea while we waited for the switch over from breakfast to lunch. It was a very cool little cafe and the staff was fantastic. They had to go and print the lunch menu for us, which we were happy to wait for. My wife had the Caesar salad. She loved that the chicken had been smoked and the bacon chunks, yes chunks, were great. The salad was refreshing and exactly what she had hoped for. I got the Chicken Parmigiana, which I rarely get because it is offered so many places and this wasn't an Italian place. Well, I am glad I did. It was outstanding. The chicken was juicy and the crust was excellent. I liked that they used linguine as the pasta and the sauce was flavorful. This was a great find! read more

Unbelievably bad experience. First of all, when the four of sat down it took 30 minutes for anyone to even bring us a menu. There was a general air of annoyance from the staff, like we were an inconvenience. Then, a mother and son came in and literally had their food before we even got a chance to order. When we finally ordered after alerting a different waiter that we had not been given menus, they forgot two of our drinks and we had to ask several times before we got them. I have celiac disease had found this place on Findmegluten free and ordered one of two offerings on their allergy menu. I told the waitress I had celiac and that everything needed to be prepared separately. She shrugged it off and told me it was all done separately. I was reassured, but we should have just left. The mushroom toast came, and the bread was fine, but the seasoning was so overly salty it was almost inedible. At this point, I didn't want to wait for another one to be made, so I just ate it. Big mistake! I had eaten nothing else that day and on the walk back to our air b-n-b I began to feel ill. When I got home I vomited for two hours, a tell-tale sign that I had been glutened. It is important to note that I had eaten in many restaurants in Galway before this and not been sick before this meal. I also was not sick after that day. I had to miss an outing with my group and stay home on the couch when I should have been enjoying a day of my trip. The worst part of the whole experience is that the waitstaff actually had the audacity to gaslight me. I returned two days later, and calmly explained to a member of the staff that the restaurant had made me sick. He claimed that it could not have been the restaurant because the order was marked as gluten free, the kitchen takes allergies seriously, and one of the staff members is gluten free. I explained that a single crumb could make me sick, and then he turned around and asked me if I had urged the severity to the server. He told me the manager would be in the following day, but we were leaving the next day. I'm not even sure we would have gotten a refund. It actually gets worse through. My fiancé was irate that they made me sick when he had wanted to leave after we sat for 30 minutes with no menus, so he wrote a google review describing our experience. The restaurant had the gall to reply back and say that I came in two days later "demanding a refund and speaking disrespectfully to staff." I am floored to say the least. It is one thing to make someone sick, but then to not even take the onus, and blame and badmouth a customer is shameful. The restaurant claims that they cater well to celiacs and have a dedicated gluten free menu, yet their allergen menu has two gluten free options and they have two gluten free desserts. If you have any allergies or just don't want to be treated like a burden for an overpriced subpar meal , SKIP IT. read more

The words lovely, charming, friendly and delicious come to mind when I think of Caprice Cafe. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast in this wonderful cafe in the heart of Galway. The five of us all ordered different dishes. I had a little entre envy when I first saw the traditional Irish breakfast and tex-mex fried eggs bowl dish that two of my friends ordered. My jealousy was short lived though because my pancakes (yes American pancakes, in Galway) were outstanding. So light and fluffy, yet buttery and melt in my mouth good. They might have had some lemon and ricotta in them. I'm not sure. Lots of Irish bacon was piled on top too. Perfect! I enjoyed a lovely pot of tea served in darling china, and a glass of orange juice as well. The desserts displayed looked amazing. I don't know how we made it out of there without buying some for the road. Our loss for sure. All of us raved about our breakfasts. Delicious meal in a super charming cafe. Our party of three had the goat cheese salad, buttermilk pancakes with candied pecans, apple compote, salted caramel sauce, and Chantilly cream , and the Tex-Mex eggs (yes, Texas in Galway!) with smoked paprika potatoes, beans and cream/avocado salsa. At the suggestion of a local we found Caprice to have breakfast and coffee before leaving Galway. The entire place is seriously Insta-worthy with all their beautiful decor and properly placed seating areas. I ordered the Tex-Mex breakfast dish which was potatoes (home fry style), avocado, salsa and black eyed peas with some white sauce topped with two over-easy eggs. I loved everything about it. The black eyed peas were interesting touch that I never would have thought to add to a dish like this. I also tired the "American" style pancakes that my friend had and as an American I can say these were better than any pancakes I've had in the US. I also had a caramel latte which was delicious. The staff was amazing - I thought it was interesting that it stated that they were a casual, stress free, "no fuss" type of atmosphere right on the menu. Our entire visit was lovely. Highly recommend checking out their second floor as it has more seating and super cute decor. If you're in the downtown Galway area needing something for breakfast or lunch, take a stroll down the unbeaten path to Caprice Cafe, you won't be disappointed. read more

Came here for our last breakfast in Galway. Located right by the castle bank. Menu is a single page, ranges from fruits and oatmeal to full breakfasts. I ordered the full Irish breakfast, swapped out the black pudding for an extra tomato (because I don't really like the pudding). Size of breakfast was great, toast was HUGE! We wanted a mid afternoon bite to eat during our visit to Galway. We didn't want a full meal, as it was 3pm & we had dinner booked for 6:30. Our waitress was very sweet & took our order. She returned and explained that her manager, Vicky, said we must order a minimum of at least one entree to be served. So we were forced to order more food than we wanted. Our waitress even apologized & felt bad. A lot of food was left wasted too. Mind you, there were no others waiting to be seated and there were other empty tables too. Such a pretty spot to go to for any meal. It is in a great location in Galway on a not too busy street. The interior here is beautiful, bright and spacious. Each time I go here I notice another detail here that I admire (Obsessed with the stained glass!). This is an ideal spot to meet up with a group of friends as it is not too loud and they have plenty of tables to serve a small group of people. The brunch here was delicious, I got Eggs Royale for 13.95. It was a little pricey considering there was no side salad or anything with the dish - but still delicious to say the least. The coffee here is okay too not the best around but not bad. On another visit I got a burger which was good and a little pricey at 15.95 but came with chips and the quality of each ingredient was great! Staff are always really welcoming here and friendly. This is the best restaurant I have been to in Galway. Highly recommend to people looking for excellent (not fried) food. Just a block or two off the main (touristy) streets of downtown. If you're finished eating before 0900 (parking police start work we were told by a local), parking may be available on the street. Vicki (husband & wife owners) is the most hospitable possible.
