Vegetable tagine
Charles G.

My girlfriend and I popped into High Cafe for a late night bite after receiving a recommendation from our host. The restaurant is upstairs, look for a door tucked between two bars. We found the place warm and cozy with a diverse array of pasta, pizza, salads, sandwiches and tagines. Here's a breakdown of what we had: Vegetarian tagine: hadn't had one before- it was great. A nice array of stewed veggies. Amazing aroma, very mild on the spice. Served with fresh, hot pita bread that was fantastic. Niçoise salad: in a country of fried foods, a good salad can be hard to come by. Very generous with the tuna and served with a side of anchovies. They can be a little heavy handed with the dressing (Ireland in general), so it may be worth asking for it on the side. Moroccan mint tea: the showstopper. Beautiful presentation. Phenomenal flavor. The tea was served with fresh mint. Truly incredible. Ratatouille pizza: we ended up going our second night and ordered a pizza without cheese. Simple and good, served on the same pita that came with the tagine. Overall, delicious food on the healthier side with a solid menu of both cafe fare and Moroccan cuisine.

Handcrafted syrups for wonderful speciality drinks!!!

This place is fabulous!! We loved their hand crafted syrups for all of the drinks! Best ever mojito! Carl the head expert bartender and owner Manuel were wonderful with their service, food and drinks professionally mixed. Great food, drinks, staff and prices! GO , you will love it. So glad we just popped in tonight!

Chicken mushroom pasta bake, a cous cous side salad with sundried tomato and herb toast!

A great little cafe on the second floor of the very busy High Street in Galway - I walked past it twice in search of it (and almost got clobbered by a very tired Mikey!). It was definitely worth it though - it's nice and quiet while still being able to people watch if you manage to nab a window seat. The food was very reasonably priced (nothing over €12, except for steaks) and came in enormous portions - and very very yummy! I think my attached pic says it all... Service was excellent too with very friendly waitresses. If you do not want a tourist trap but still want a nice meal in the heart of Galway, definitely try this place!

Chicken panini with pesto mayo (I asked for it on the side); herbed couscous over cos lettuce

After many days of pub fare, we were eager to find a cafe with fresher, lighter options. This place REALLY hit the spot! It was kind of hidden (it's above another restaurant), but luckily for us there was an employee standing on the street holding a menu. We glanced it over and decided it was for us. The plating and presentation is well-done, and it's a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. If you sit by the windows like we did, you have a nice view of the busy street below. I highly recommend it!

Nice atmosphere, really cozy. Might be difficult to find since their front door is literally just a door leading to a stairway for their shop upstairs. Tried the lamb tangine as mains, starter of garlic bread and mussels gratin and a dessert of banofee pie - everything was REALLY GOOD. The gratin is a must try!!

Chicken in filp pastry with almonds and onions

Went there with two friends had the chicken in filo pastry was gorgeous even though it comes with icing sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on it (not to my taste) also had the apple pie which was gorgeous and one of my friends had the pizza and enjoyed it very much The service does take some time but it is perfectly cooked and about right for those dishes nd you have time to chat to your friends

Excellent! Don't get me wrong...this is not a 5 star for anything other than what it is, a cafe serving REALLY good food! The mixed kebab plate was delicious. All beautifully spiced and 3 condiments to support it (the barbecue and chutney style by far the tastiest!). Nice little garlic pizza bread to support (and wrap some of the meats in) was a great addition (and only 3.50). Definitely worth the walk up the stairs (and don't forget to get your tipple from downstairs in the Grapes...also a very nice Guinness!)

Cod fish and chips with mashed green peas and penne in bechamel sauce. It was all as good as it looked.

From the outside, colorful signage and lush plant accents give off an inviting, sunshine-meets-Galway vibe; inside, the décor leans into greenery and relaxed seating that feels friendly and laid-back. There's a full, lush garden area within the actual restaurant, complete with bamboo barriers, palm fronds, wicker seating, and plush couches. At around 11:30am on a Sunday, my party of eleven was looking for a cute brunch spot close o the Galway train station as we arrived for a day trip. Thanks to the courteous staff and some table rearrangement, they were able to seat our large party almost immediately, despite the space being almost full. The menu isn't too extensive, but has a variety of brunch dishes (there's a bit of a conundrum in that they serve brunch until 12:30pm, but they don't begin serving lunch after 1pm; I wonder what they do in the meantime?). They've essentially taken brunch classics and added their own fun, tropical twist, such as their "Mojo Rojo Toast" and Huevos Rancheros with a Brazilian twist. There's also a comprehensive drink menu, with coffee/tea, smoothies, and fresh-pressed juices. I began with their Double Espresso (€2.80), which came in a tiny, cute cup, with homemade sugar cubes on the side. I will say that as a group, we found their espresso overly acidic as compared to others we've sampled in Ireland, but it did the job in getting me sufficiently caffeinated. Others in my group enjoyed their Chai Lattes (€4.50)! For my main dish, I opted for their Cinnamon & Orange French Toast (€14), which consisted of two hearty slices of crusty bread soaked in custard, topped with creamy mascarpone, tangy pineapple salsa, and a crunchy oat crumble. This was a lovely variety of flavors and textures, and I love how the unsweetened mascarpone provided a richness to the dish without any sweetness. There was also fresh orange slices and passionfruit on the side, which provided a tropical touch! I also enjoyed the small drizzle of caramel syrup and powdered-sugar dusting over the top, which was a thoughtful touch of sweetness. My one note is that I do wish the toast itself were soaked a bit longer in the custard, as I found it a bit dry. According to my group, other standout dishes included the Overnight Oat Jar (€7.50), the Huevos Rancheros (€16), and the Smashed Avocado on Toast (€14.50). We truly enjoyed our time at Jungle Cafe; service was kind and efficient, the food was tasty, and it strikes that sweet spot between café casual and just a bit out-there. In general, Jungle Cafe sits in the moderate price range for Galway; while I usually wouldn't pay €14 for French toast, the creativity and fresh ingredients made it feel worth the spend when you want a fun, vibrant meal. It's the perfect place for brunch with friends or a casual lunch after exploring the city.

I loved the outdoor seating that allows you to take in the air, the narrow streetways, the buildings that have stood here for centuries. While we could only do outdoor seating at the time due to the COVID-19 lockdown measures, this turned out to be quite the good fortune. Where we sat was a nice spot to see the various people walking down the street, engage in conversation, all the while enjoying a cafe Americano and some tasty baked goods like brownies and shortbread with chocolate on top. If you know where to walk from the Eyre Square, it's a great find, moderately priced, and very tasty eats. Hopefully, the next time I can have some of the hot dishes they also offer when we return to Galway.

Both were excellent and very filling. The cafe is located just off the busy street and has some some outdoor seating. The window seating is great for people-watching. They have both books and newspapers as decorations/available for reading around the cafe. There's also two small restrooms (men and women, but they're individual rooms anyways). The staff were nice and the place was very comfortable. Highly recommend!
