They, like many pubs in Galway feature an early show (for tourists mainly) as well as the more traditional 9 pm session. The two- person band we saw featured a fantastic guitarist with a nice voice and a flautist who played a variety of instruments. As we arrive a bit before 5, we had no problem finding a small low table with a couple of stools near the band. The pub is quite large and it was possible to hear the music throughout the place. We ordered drinks at the bar (a bit over priced) and enjoyed our sips for 90 minutes before we had to leave. The band played non-stop the whole time. By the time we left the place was quite full with lots of people standing-the crowd was dominated by Americans. This was a fun taste of Irish culture in one of the more historic pubs in the area dating to the 1600s.

The menu had options for all of us and we tucked right in. Our family had been in Ireland for over a week and we had an unofficial contest to see who has the best seafood chowder and brown bread. Keoghs won hands down. The chowder allowed the taste of each ingredient to come through and the broth itself wasn't gummy or too thick. It was wonderful. The brown bread was very flavorful and had just the right amount of moisture, not being dry or crunchy. The King burgers, calimari, fish and chips were all very flavorful. The staff were very friendly and helpful in making recommendations helpful with the children. We came back the next morning for breakfast and were not disappointed! Give keogh's a try, you won't be disappointed.

It was fried potatoes, fried egg, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms, black and white pudding, toast and soda bread, coffee or tea and orange juice. Though, I could only manage the mini version, which didn't come with tomato, mushrooms or orange juice and had only 1 sausage and 1 bacon. It was the perfect amount for me and delicious! I enjoyed every bite. The only thing I was disappointed about is that it didn't come with soda bread as it stated on the menu because I love me some soda bread. Instead it came with brown bread...at least, I'm 99% on this... but I could possibly be mistaken. If I am, it was not like any other soda bread I have seen or eaten. Either way, it was good too.

We were given menus with the specials listed in the front. Menu selections are small but enough that every one should be able to find something. We ordered the chicken strips with whiskey barbecue sauce and chips and the fish and chips. Service was very good with two servers working the room to make sure everyone was taken care of. Our door arrived nice and hot from the kitchen. There were 5 large pieces of nicely breaded chicken that at first glance looked like it was over fried but the chicken was very moist and tender. The breading had a little kick to it. The barbecue sauce was very flavorful, smoky flavor and it too had a little kick as well. The fish was well coated in a panko batter, fried very crispy but a little heavy. The fish was a large portion, very fresh and well seasoned. With the fish came a nice bowl of mushy peas and tartar sauce. Chips for both dishes were nice and crispy. Food was good, service was excellent, and the price was reasonable so a return trip will happen to try more of their dishes.

The most memorable bite was presented as an oyster but it was a dessert. I know that sounds a little off but hear me out. It was slightly sweet with the crunch of the shell and so delicately captured the essence of the ocean. The chef is a magician!
