Pat Cohans in Cong, Ireland is a cozy pub/restrauant in a quaint little town. Both charming for a host of reasons. Pat Cohans is famous for the fight scene in the Oscar wining movie (1951) The Quite Man, staring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara. My wife who did all of the travel bookings is an old movie buff and put Cong on our travel itinerary. It was about 3:30 p.m. when we arrived in Cong after our morning visit to the Cliffs Of Moher. We had not eaten since breakfast and quickly made the short two block walk to Pat Cohans. We ordered the double burger with fries and a side order of onion rings. It was all good. Best onion rings I've had in a long, long time. The burgers were excellent. A few of you will pick up on this this statement, "where's the beef", well it was on our burgers. Fun historical site! We came here because of the attraction being the pub in the movie "The Quiet Man." Friendly staff! Amazing food...the seafood chowder is the freshest I have had outside of San Francisco! The soda bread is perfect to pair with Guiness! A definite must when you come here! read more

If you are looking for an amazing restaurant in Cong, County Mayo, Ireland. Look no further. Upon entering I was made feel very Welcome by all the staff. The Staff were extremely helpful, attentive, friendly and Very Professional. I ordered a pint of Guinness . The Guinness was a perfect pour and was absolutely amazing. The Staff gave me plenty of time to look over the menu. I ordered a Thai Curry that was accompanied by Naan Bread. Now here is something to think about. The Thai Curry was the best one I have had in many years. If the Owners, Management and Chef's are reading this. Do not make any changes to your Thai Curry. It was absolutely delicious and was beyond perfect. Upon finishing my entree. I was given plenty of time to read over the dessert menu. I ended up ordering the sticky toffee dessert and a Cappuccino. I highly recommend this amazing dessert. The Cappuccino tasted so fresh and definitely hit the spot. This Restaurant deserves five stars and more. The Restaurant is a great place to visit if you are a fan of the Movie, " The Quite Man". The Restaurant is so clean and has very clean restrooms. It should be noted I served with the United States Marines all over the World, Lived in the United States for over thirty years and traveled all over the United States. I definitely know a Great Restaurant from all my travels and life experiences. I definitely will be returning to Pat Cohan's Gastro Pub in the near future. You definitely won't be disappointed. Being a big fan of John Wayne brought us to Cong, Ireland and Pat Cohan's, featured in 'The Quiet Man' (in case you don't know and want to give it a look). In the movie, Cohan's is a dark little bar with few seats. Although small, this is a bright spot with friendly, well trained staff and good food. There are about 8 tables here so if you want to be sure you get a table, call ahead. The Mushroom soup of the day was very good. Creamy with lots of subtle flavors. The chowder has a strong flavor without being over powering. Both are served with a tiny loaf of crumbly brown bread and butter. The cheese plate selection was diverse and tasty including sharp, smoky, blue, brie and goat cheeses. Unfortunately the chef burned the pita bread provided (cheese cracker on the menu). When we told our waiter it was burned, the chef explained he turned around and it was over cooked and you have to watch it carefully. But still, he sent it out instead of making a new batch. This dish would benefit from a bit of honey or fig jam. The pita might have gone well with the brie if edible, but thin slices of baguette or other bread would have done well too. We were given knives but no fork, so figured this was an 'eat with your hands' dish. Although not 'The Quiet Man' pub experience hoped for, this is a nice, friendly restaurant. read more

It is small & incredibly hospitable. The staff are so nice and the food is amazing. We were expecting pub food but it is not "just pub food". It is amazing. Had our rehearsal dinner here for our wedding on Wednesday night and we were beyond impressed with the service. They closed the bar down for our private group and had the best customer service. We had a lovely - super quick - lunch during our day tour's stop in Cong. Three of us got the soup of the day, Sweet Potato & Bacon, and it had incredible bacon flavor! The fourth in our group, my husband got a chicken sandwich, which looked really tasty and came with a side salad. I actually stole his salad, and it was really fresh and light and had lots of good veggies in it - bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, etc. The table also split an apple crumble, and I could have enjoyed just that for my meal! Gooey and warm but with a nice crunch, and I'm pretty sure the vanilla ice cream was made in-house. We were very rushed for time, and the staff was so polite and accommodating. read more

Pat Cohan's Bar could be a lot less, and live off its fame from the Quiet Man and its location. Instead, it's an excellent restaurant with reasonable prices that caters to tourists and locals. Any fan of the movie will want to stop in for a drink, but try a meal too. Making a reservation is recommended. The vegetarian in our party of two had a good vegetable selection. I was so disappointed in this "pub"! This is an iconic place that many people across the world place on their bucket list just because of the movie. The inside has been redone to the point that it doesn't even look like the same place. It looks like any other lunch place with it's only nod to the famous history being the framed pictures hanging on the wall. The food was over priced and nondescript. It's such a shame because if this place were kept as it was shown in the film I think the owners would be raking in the cash. Stop and take a picture from the outside, but don't waste your time going in. read more

The food and service was the best on our trip to Ireland. We loved it so much that we ate there 3 times in 5 days. The bacon and cabbage dish was just out of this world along with the chowder and mussels. We were also able to have some craft beers from the area; most pubs/restaurants do not have many of any. Hands down a great place to eat, we were only a table of 2 but larger groups may want to call ahead for reservations. read more

My wife and I definitely wanted to at least have a drink at Pat Cohan's while staying in Cong (for our second time). It was nicer inside than I expected for some reason, and we sat at first at the very nice bar, and then moved to a table. The service was very good and the presentation of the food was as well. We both ordered the pulled beef sandwich, which came on a rustic bread that was nearly a meal in itself, with a red cabbage slaw that appealed to my dire need for vegetables (which, compared to the U.S., I found rather hard to find in great quantity in Ireland). The sandwich had an interesting taste that we both liked, my wife more than myself, as the meat had some sort of earthy spice to it (nutmeg?). Anyway, the place is very nice and while the menu is somewhat small (which can definitely be a good thing), we did enjoy it. I feel like this is a 3.5 star place for lunch, and I can't vouch for dinner. read more
