Monroe's packs the house with live music every night. It's much larger than some of the pubs in the Latin Quarter and it's just over the bridge in Galway. It's a full tavern menu most of the day and just pizza after 9pm but the pints are poured all day and night. We struggled to get into Tig Coili and Taaffes, but Monroe's has a lot more seating, but was still packed. It was a great night of music and beers. read more

Stopped in around lunch time to grab a quick snack and found this little spot. We walked in to a great ambiance, complete with a fireplace burning bright. Thankfully it was perfect timing because the place wasn't too packed, found a clean spot and sat. Quickly greeted with menus and requests for a beverage. While on vacation we had two Aperol Spritz's and water. Great food options including a break down for those of us with dietary issues/restrictions. I had the Soup of the Day - vegan Mushroom and parsley soup, while my travel mate had the Bacon & Cabbage with creamy parsley sauce Plate. Pretty good stuff. Came in on the recommendation of a local bartender. I didn't have a reservation, but no problem! The mussels were amazing. I was shocked at the portion. So good. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but the risotto underneath stole the show. It was incredible! The waitstaff was friendly,lknowledgeable. At the recommendation of a waiter, I finished with the cheesecake. It was light, just a little sweet and a perfect finish to the meal! read more

We came, we saw, we ate, we listened! My cousin and I stayed in Galway a couple days and wanted a good pub dinner with music. So we stopped in here. It was PACKED on that Friday night. But the food looked good and a nice American couple invited us to share a table with them since we were unable to find seats for us both. I ordered fish and chips that came with mashed peas and a small salad. My cousin ordered alfredo with shrimp. All of it was great! They had a great beer on draft selection so i had a couple drinks while my cousin and i waited for the band to play. The band was great and played a good mix of genres and kept the pub lively and entertained. read more

The food was good.I had the Guinness beef stew.The drinks were reasonably priced at €6. I had tickets for Martha Wainwright concert who performed on Tuesday July 25,2023. So it was less than a week ago. The venue was awful. Nobody told us that it was mostly standing and very few seats. The bar staff were very loud while performing their chores. They were asked by Martha's manager at one stage to quieten their activities. I would advise people to get in queue one hour before a show if you want a seat or a good view. read more

I loved the staff, especially Stephen!! I used to go here almost every night of the week... the music got a bit repetitive with one guy playing the same songs every night. They need to spice things up a bit and get some original music in there! That damn song Galway Girl makes all the girls giddy... and then the boys get giddy with Santeria. I probably heard those two songs 180 times at this place... but for some reason it didn't matter. It was almost a joke and the staff knew it and the regulars knew it and it was alllll good. Oh and you'll probably figure this out but you can order pizza from the place next door and they will bring it into the pub for you! read more

What a surprising find! The Bf and I used the Yelp app to wonder away from the downtown Galway options, over the small river bridge to this cluster of buildings. As with all Irish bars, it looked tiny from the outside but wowza, once you enter it's wide open spaces with plenty of room for dancing. And dancing there was indeed! I couldn't believe my ears but a Salsa band blared from the doorway. Upon entering we found the floor packed with swiveling hips and sassy arms! The band was really amazing, and it was like a little bit of Ibiza found its way back to the Emerald Isle in some European's post holiday suitcase. The bartenders were friendly, but a bit slow (I think the truth telling hips were distracting them) and the people watching was prime! It looks like they have a decent bar menu-although we just drank and then headed next door to get take out from The Pizza Cabin on our way back to our B & B. If you're with a group this is a solid find and will have plenty of seating with a laid back atmosphere. If you want to dance, head here! read more

First day in Ireland, and my friend took me to this place! We went on a saturday night and the place was popping! There was live music and folks dancing around and just having a great time! It was definitely a bar for the older crowd, so if youre looking to meet younger people...you wont find it here. They dont make cocktails here, so if youre in the mood for a mojito or margarita or something, best to go somewhere else. I had a wonderful time and would definitely come back here! I always overlooked this place as a bar to hang out in when I am in Galway. On my St Patrick's Day pub crawl, equipped with my mates and my patriotic spirit, we stumbled in to this bar not thinking that it would become our shamrock soaking joint. Friendly and efficient bar staff, great live music and a tremendous atmosphere, it definitely had the ingredients for the "craic agus ceoil go lor" that was required of the day. Plus it has the added bonus of ordering pizza at the bar from the next door take away and it is delivered right to your table. Always great when you get a dose of the beer munchies. read more

Larger than it appears outside, and even though it was busy and crowded due to a game being shown we managed to snag a table. Service is attentive but not very friendly. Burgers and fries were delicious, nachos were only ok. Didn't know about the secret pizza you can order behind the bar until after we had ordered; the people next to us had some and it looked delicious. Place was lively and we were excited to hear the live band for some authentic Irish music only to realize we came on Salsa night! This place was an alright find in the town of Galway. I'm think it may have just been the circumstances we were traveling under (huge snow storm during out travels, road advisories to not go out, Monday night), but it was the most friendly bar we visited that evening. The staff was super friendly, there was about 5 tables occupied with locals. A live musician and people dancing and having a good time. Solid place! Came to Galway during rag week (never heard of it till I got there) and since as a result of it was lots of young kids getting crazy I asked for recommendation of something away from that. The people at my hostel recommended Monroe's so I wandered down and popped in to find a cozy place with a midsize crowd of people watching the Barcelona game. I sat at the bar and got a Guinness and some fries and the lady was very nice. The atmosphere was great! Super laid back and friendly with people cheering every now and again at the game. They lady, I presume an owner or manager was like a hawk getting empty glasses and drinks for people as well as keeping the young crazies out and refusing service to the already plastered. She was a strong one I tell you that I had great respect as I sad and enjoyed my drink. Eventually they turned the game off and there was live Irish music and dancing! Jigs were done and there was stepping and circling and anyone was welcome to join. There were all kinds of people just trying to learn the steps but everyone was really friendly about it. It wasn't competitive or exclusive and it made for a lively, fun and jolly atmosphere. Overall for what I was looking for which was traditional Irish pub relaxed fun atmosphere this place hit the spot! I recommend making the short walk across the bridge to check it out if you happen to be in Galway! read more

Going on my third week in Galway. This is one of my go to pub's. I have had the drinks, Guinness, and most of the food. It has all been wonderful. My eight family member's all agree. I didn't try the food--just a Guinness once the sports went off the tv and the live music and dancing started. I enjoyed, even as a solo traveler, watching the shiny, happy people gallup around in such a small space (the bar itself isn't super small, but it's set up like a "C" with folks dancing at the top of the "C"). But, I thought the bar itself lacked the warmth and character / ambiance of the others I had visited. That said, it's still a great bar to grab dinner or hang out with some friends. Bottom line: Good place to watch sports when they are on, grab some dinner, and later dance the night away to live music. read more

My family and I were here during the World Cup so having all the televisions set up in there was definitely a plus. We sat in a very small table and although some fellow guests were rude, everyone else was great. I ordered the Smoked Salmon salad and it was INSANEEEEEEEE. The flavor was so good and it was also really filling! I would highly suggest this place to anyone in Galway. What can I say? I was there with a tour group of about 50 people. Yes there were a lot of us! The stage was set for all sort of mishaps when the numbers get that big.
