Cool place with a wide selection of beers. A local bartender mentioned this place while we were asking what to check out. We were able to get a flight to try different ones. A flight of 4 beers costs 6 euro. Tried a helles lager, west speedball stout, haze cider and an Irish red ale. My friend tried the green zebra and Radler which I'll probably have pints of tonight. They had a selection of games to play as well.

What a small treat in Galway! It is located near the river right downtown, no taxi needed if you are in the central part of town. I honestly expected an average bar, but was surprised to see such a huge variety of beer and wine! Not only did they have a huge selection, the bartender was very knowledgeable and was even familiar with local breweries near Sonoma County. Being a popular spot and all makes it quite difficult to find a opentable and or seat at the bar. I was there on the weekend and it was quite packed, but eventually found a spot at the bar after a few minutes. Ordered a few beers that were local brews and they were quite delicious and well worth the reasonable price! Speaking of pricing, I'd say the bar/pub does a great job at making most of what they serve very affordable and not too overpriced for tourists like myself. Always nice to spend time at a bar as well when the locals are extremely friendly and willing to chat it up about various other sites to see and visit. If you are ever in the area, I would definitely suggest stopping by and spending some time at the Salt House and experience some of the local brews and various other global alcoholic beverages they offer.

This is a small little tucked away Irish pub on the streets of Galway. We walked in and were greeted with an extremely warm welcome by the bartenders. I walked in and instantly felt at home here. This place has a great atmosphere. The bartenders are friendly and so are the customers. It was super laid back here. There were lights hanging and pub and beer stickers plastered all over the walls with a dim lighting. There's a wide variety of beers to choose from and even some board games that are passed around to play while enjoying your time at the pub. My fiancé surprised me with a small celebration here by announcing our engagement to the entire pub and bought a round of pints for everyone in the pub. We had gotten engaged the day before and this was such a special moment. Some patrons even wrote us a nice note and the bartenders were awesome about helping him out with this. This place will always hold a special place in my heart. If you're looking for a relaxed laid back pub with great beer then this is the spot for you. I recommend stopping here for a beer while in Galway!

Small little tucked away place that has a great Irish pub feel to it. We came here to celebrate my fiancé and my recent engagement. It had a great atmosphere that is laid back. Pub and beer stickers plaster the walls with dim lighting. There are also board games you can play to pass the time. There is a wide variety of beers to choose from with a variety of types to please everyone. Honestly what made this place special was the bar tenders. They are upbeat energetic and make you feel like a friend. The are very outgoing and will strike up a conversation about anything. I told them about a bucket list item of mine, to buy a round for the patrons at a Irish pub. They assisted in the matter and were really pumped about the idea. They even helped facilitate it. It was a great turnout and some patrons even wrote us a note. This place will always remain special to my fiancé and I. But after a long travel and you need a place to rest and kick back I highly suggest this place!

Galway Bay Brewery pub. And this is a proper drinkers pub with Snacks as the only food option. I have got time for a pub meal from time to time but this is the kind of place for people who take their beer drinking seriously. My respect for a brewery increases massively when they are not scared of lining up other excellent beers against their own brews. And they don't need to be scared because their own beers are first rate: Full Sail and Of Foam and Fury being my personal recommendations! Oh and you can get a taster tray if, like me, you are wondering how you are going to be able to try all the beers that you want to. The bartender knew his stuff and it was interesting to talk through the options with him. This great venue was improved by their great taste in music. A wonderful chilled soundtrack for a lazy afternoon

This is the place to go to enjoy your beer. I mean really enjoy it. If you, like many others before us, have realised that Heineken actually doesn't taste that nice and there are a lot of seriously tasty beers out there, then you must take a trip to this place. It's very cozy, nice atmosphere, the bar staff are all lovely and pretty cool. They have a fridge full of bottles (including a nice selection of Brew Dog), plenty of interesting brews on tap and they normally have a kind of a "Beer of the Month" on tap so there's always something new to try. There's a really cool session band that plays there too on Sundays around 7ish.

Stopped into the Salt House and absolutely loved it. I had the chocolate fudge brownie stout and it was incredible -- rich aroma, smooth flavor, and honestly one of the best dessert-style stouts I've tried. Cozy atmosphere, great vibes, and definitely a spot I'd come back to. read more
Great pub with a bunch of craft beers, which sets itself apart from other Irish pubs. It's on the water. Outdoor seating. Frequently having live music. The bartenders were busy, yet friendly. If I lived in Galway, this might very well be my place. They have quite a few beers from local. Brewery Galway Bay Brewery. read more

I would give this place ten stars if I could. I was only in Galway for a day and this wasn't even one of the places on my radar, but I saw they had live traditional Irish music in the afternoon and decided to check it out. I couldn't have been happier. The bartender was super friendly and the prices were reasonable. They had a huge selection of craft beer, and if you can't choose there's a wheel to spin that chooses for you (I did this and was very satisfied). The music was fantastic too. anyways, can't recommend this place enough. read more

Friendly, cool little place selling Galway Bay Brewery ales and a good selection of others. I only stayed for one because I had a dinner reservation but you could clearly do a proper session here. As I'd been to Oslo the previous day I didn't feel cheated but if the weather's not good enough to slog out to Salthill this is a must-visit in Galway town itself. read more

Came here to try some local beers and was blown away by the hospitality. Loved the vibe and really enjoyed the friendly informative chatter. We learned tons about the Irish language and pronunciation. Great if you love craft brews, but they have a great selection of whiskey as well. It's a very cozy pub feel. We love Roisin!! She's the coolest and the best! Her CA basic girl accent will blow you away. read more

I think these guys own Against the Grain, the Black Sheep and that other place beside Connolly Station in Dublin. It has the same feel to it. It's small, nicely decorated. It has that craft beer feel to it. Prices a little on the expensive side. €7 for a McIvors Cider? Whaaaat? Never even encountered it that expensive in Dublin!!! It was grand. Not as great as their Dublin counterparts though. The lager I got on draft wasn't particularly cold either. Price check please on the McIvors. €7 is crazy expensive!! read more

Jet lagged, swollen and a bit hungover I was unable to get adequate sleep my first night in Galway , I awoke at dawn and took a stroll around the bay reading placards that pointed out historical spots where this or that Irishman was struck down by the dreaded black and tans. Half sunken ships left to decay and old chains and rings remnants of moorings for boats long set sail for better or worse. My ancestors migrated from Ireland during the famine years, you can almost hear the echos of that lineage in the seagulls squawks and rippling tides. The Salt house sits along the Canal leading into Galway Bay and is a treasure of a pub in its quaint cozy confines. The real thing that sets this pub apart from the myriad of Galways historical watering holes is that this pub provides an excellent selection of craft beers and local brews. Nay are you forced to select the unrepentant onslaught of Budweiser, Heineken, or Guinness. In all the other pubs, evident is the the stronghold Guinness has in Ireland concerning beverage distribution as they deliver that Budweiser and Heinikin shite. I was able to watch the European Rugby Championship here, Leinster bested Munster in an all Irish affair which made my trip to this wonderful little pub all the more enjoyable. read more

Salt House is one if the great Irish pubs - not just in Galway... one of the greatest I have ever visited. And I have visited a great many.

Like good beer? Not just Guinness but all that Ireland and Europe has to offer? Then come to this bar. Right away it has a different feel when you walk in. The crowd in and around this pub has more of the look of the typical neck-bearded beer aficionados of America. The selection is amazing, both of drought beer and bottles. There is one enthusiastic bartender who is overworked but loves his beer. The ambiance is pure Ireland with dark corners and board games. Don't expect any food...at all. We ran next doors and brought in crisps and nuts. Cheers! read more

Serious beer drinkers will love this place. Home of Galway Bay Brewing. Incredible selection and many IPAs and DIPAs
For beer, it does not get much better. What a great selection to be had in this apparent dive bar. Yes it looks and feels like an American dive bar except for the superb selection of beer including their parent companies beer from salthill. The stormy port is my favorite of their range. Unlike the Dublin bars, they do serve Guinness and there is a tv. The tv was welcome as they showed the rugby and I watched south Africa beat the English among a crowd of south Africans. Great place and one of my Favorites in Galway. read more

Dive bar at its finest. Great beers on draft and amazing local misic. A bit dirty and dark. Otherwise a great pub
Just a quick note on that beer you're thinking about ordering; if it's popular, they probably don't have it. On the other hand, if you've always fantasised about tasting Delerium Tremons, Tactical Nuclear Penguin or some other obscure novelty of a beer, well, I think you're home. A friend of mine, who's a painful beer snob, actually dropped to his knees salivating upon first entering the Salt House. He didn't stop shaking for three days, and even then he was convinced he'd found 'the light'. Being of a more cynical disposition I wouldn't go so far. Yes, this is the nicest beer you'll have in Galway. And it's even a 'beer club'(I thought all pubs were). But, and I say this in as respectful a way as I can, I'm a whiskey man. Still, it's a bar with real charm. Stone walls, seats that are comfy to talk in, and knowledgeable bar staff. read more

Being so used to Against The Grain, The Black Sheep and Alfie Byrnes in Dublin, made walking into the Salt House so easy. The decor familiar, yet original too. Even the smell was the similar to ATG. A very cosy pub i.e on the small side, but we did manage to get a table. Hooray for us and our weary feet. And it sells a great range of beer. I opted for cider and my husband a Buried at Sea, a Galway bay original. The loo is cutsie small, but as the place is small it was never in demand. Definitely recommended. read more

My friend and I were only in Galway for one night, and so we'd started out the evening planning on going to several bars. Salt House was such an amazing pub, we ended up just spending 7 hours in it instead. We're from the States ourselves, and met folks from all around the world--Australia, Poland, Portugal, Canada, Albuquerque, and of course, several amazing Irish folks. The bar staff is the perfect combination of cheeky and friendly. The pub was recommended to us by our server at the Pie Maker (another amazing spot) and the server ended up coming to the pub and drinking with us all night. Truly an awesome gem in a lovely town. Thanks Salt House! :) read more

New York Times review took us to this bar. Good beer selection and good bartender too (Cían). Shot the breeze with a local and an international traveler at the bar on our way back to our B&B around the corner (The Stop). Went back twice in one day, which isn't uncommon for this little gem of a bar. Enjoyed taking our beer outside across the street by the canal and watching the the world go by. read more

Great selection of beer and a fun atmosphere. They were really busy when we went and the one bartender was amazing. She was handling the orders, crowds, and customer service like a champ. We loved the Galway Bay beers and it was great to also get to have more Brewdog since we don't get that in the US. read more

Seating can be tricky, but this is THE place for a craft beer in Galway. Salt House features a broad selection of delicious Galway Bay Brewery beers (I recommend the stouts and porters) as well as other beers from around the globe. No food except for crisps, but that's probably for the best as it keeps the clientele rotating out the door. If you can grab the seat by the roaring fire, you're golden. Accepts credit. read more

This is the place to go in Galway for good beer and company. It's small, cozy, has good beer (a bunch of sours, my favorite), and best of all, good people. It felt like we were having a drink at a friends house, that's how awesome it was. read more
Fantastic spot in Galway for craft beer. They also have a great whiskey selection and very knowledgeable staff to help you choose. It's a very relaxed place where you can go sit, play a game or two (many board games to choose from) and talk with locals or tourists interested in "non touristy" places. They also have free wifi if you need a place to work and have a pint. read more
This is another of GBB's bars and it follows similar suit; loads of craft beer, loads of beer memorabilia, cosy atmosphere, jam packed at the weekends. The crowd are super friendly and the bartenders are fairly great. One of them did immediately try to talk me out of my choice of beer though, which I found a little insulting. He was trying to up sell me to something on draft, but he sort of made it look like my choice wasn't good enough--which made me a bit uncomfortable because a friend had asked me to choose something for him, and my choice was shot down! I did change to something on draft, but I ended up going for another beer that I had already tried. I appreciate him being helpful but still, it's one thing to recommend something to someone who hasn't got a clue, it's quite another to tell someone with a definite opinion that they should buy something else! Poor retail skills right there. Doesn't put me off going, but Mr. Bartender, you know who you are! read more
