One of the if not the most popular bar's in Clifden. Extensive Irish Whiskey collection, they told me there was over 100 different kinds... I wasn't going to count.. I tried a few different types, but always ended up with Jamison in the end. Bartenders were great, I never felt like a customer but more like a friend. I never once had to ask for a drink or had to get their attention..loved how attentive they were. My group grabbed seats just as it started to get crowded, once the music started it felt like everyone in the streets just filed in. It was packed, everyone was having fun signing and drinking ... one big party. I met and had so many great conversations with both locals and people from all over the world. When the music would stop half the crowd would clear out... unitl the next band started. Lot's of fun here, smooth wide selection of whiskey and great music. read more

The most popular pub in Clifden. It's just quintessential Irish pub from the decor on the wall to the cheeky regulars to the John Skelton art on the walls. One of my favourite John Skelton paintings is a wonderful depiction called, "Aran Pintmen." Look it up and tell me if you don't think there's just something arresting about it: bright eyes, tweed caps, cupped Guinnesses, innocent faces. A reprint of this painting hangs at Lowry's Bar and immediately endeared me to the place. The menu here is pithy but sweet. We tried the smoked salmon panini, filled with wonderful fresh offerings from the Connemara smokehouse. Can you ever have too much freshly smoked salmon? The answer is probably yes...but it's still brilliant. The panini was perfectly balanced, with some rich creme fraîche carefully balancing out each salty bite of the tender salmon. Our pints of Guinness were fresh and the regulars at the bar were entertaining. My only regret is that I drank too much Guinness and lost too much sleep in County Clare to allow me the experience of a proper night of music and craic at Lowry's. My loss. read more

Great place! Stopped in here after a lovely dinner at the Derryclare, precisely because we walked by earlier in the day and saw Lowry's window displaying Redbreast 15! So we shared a Redbreast 15 and a Jura, both of which were phenomenal and of course quite different from each other. Redbreast 15 is superb. We arrived before it became crowded and had a comfortable seat near the entrance. A music session was just starting as well, giving it an even nicer atmosphere. Would defnitely return here next time we're in Clifden. A very nice spot for a nightcap or more! read more

THE whiskey bar in town, which was the draw for getting me in the door. But they also have great music, as many as 3 (!!) acts in an afternoon/evening. For example, you might have music at 4, 7 and 10, each time a different group. The early shifts are fine for children, they were clustered around the performers while seated on the floor on one of my visits. One negative is that Lowry's is a victim of its success. It can get very crowded, but the crowd ebbs and flows with the music. Band stops, crowd thins, band starts, crowd floods in from the street. Repeat. They have a huge whiskey selection, bartenders can recommend to meet your preference. Each evening I visited I went alone and in no time had made friends. The crowd was friendly, a mix of locals and tourists. I met people from Canada, Australia and Holland, and heard German, French, and of course Irish/Gaelic spoken as well. Smokers can step outside the front or rear. For the very smoke sensitive some does blow in through the doorways so while there's no smoking inside, you will get some indirectly. read more

The place is is a melting pot for locals & visitors & always has a great vibe at any time of day. The traditional Irish music is frequent & excellent & the whiskey collection is a site to behold. Lowry's is a fantastic pub. For a few quiet drinks during the week or at the weekend when it really comes alive. On my last visit, a Saturday night about 1 month ago, there was a brilliant band. We are regular visitors to Clifden and we always make sure to pay a visit to Lowry's. It seems to have a consistently good crowd, combined with great music to suit all tastes and ages which always makes for a great atmosphere. The staff are great and remember us every time we come in. Not surprisingly it is popular so can get a bit busy on weekend nights but still enjoyable if you are willing to get involved. So if you're after good pints, good craic and great music......you'll find it all here. I am already looking forward to our next visit! read more

Really nice bar. Spend all my summers in Clifden and this is the only show in town. Really nice staff with a welcoming atmosphere for young and old. The trad sessions provide great entertainment and the whiskey options don't disappoint either. I would highly recommend to anyone that is visiting Clifden to call in and check it out for themselves. 10 out of 10. read more
