This is the warmest and effective place for me to work! The staff and readers are all nice. The facilities are awesome. I will come back soon!

The Kirkland downtown library is a neighborhood library with a little bit of everything. Computers, study rooms, a larger room for activities, magazine racks, comfy chairs, counter seating for laptop work space, books in all categories, a children's area including children's reading time. This library went through renovations 10+ years ago and has held up well since then. There is ample parking outside designated for library use only. Pro Tip #1 - There are two racks of books for sale just inside the outermost doors. The cost is a steal, and books are donated by locals. With a relatively affluent population, the books rotate through quickly and always replenished. Pro Tip #2 - There's additional parking beyond the lower level gates that are public parking. Great restaurants await you in downtown!

Really nice library. Felt cozy and inviting, yet spacious. Everything is clean and well-kept-up. Nice design layout. Upscale touches such as a large sculpture on the lawn and a couple of glamorous lighting choices. Easy parking. Great book selection. I like the "choice reads" section just inside the entry doors. I found a book there that looks intriguing, and so did my husband. 30 computers with 1-hour internet access. At least 1 of the computers is ADA accessible. We visited the library this afternoon (on a Sunday) and it didn't feel crowded, but at the same time there were quite a lot of people there. We had a show to get to so we didn't get to stay long today. I would've liked to stay longer. An inviting, relaxing space to sit and read.

    Today's haul. Ooh, a manifesto!

It's my 'home' library and I'm here to pick up or drop off a couple of times a week. I haven't fully switched over to digital books, so I still run down here to get a few of the printed variety to keep me occupied until the next batch of holds comes in. There is a very nice and large children's area for the young ones, and several meeting rooms if you want to get together with a group. They have 15 or so computers, which always seem to be busy, so you have to compete a little bit for those. The sitting areas are comfortable, and overlook part of downtown Kirkland and the adjacent baseball field. It's a nice spot to browse a few titles or magazines on a rainy winter day while making your reading choices. There is a terrific selection of magazines, a solid fiction area, and stacks of non-fiction, plus you have at your disposal the entire King county library system which some say is the best in the country. You can also tap into inter-library loans for obscure titles from college libraries or other systems if KCLS doesn't have what you need. The staff here is friendly and helpful. I've been able to get inter-library loan titles from other library systems easily, and they will help you with tips on research if you ask. I have observed the staff being very kind and patient with the neighbors from an assisted living center down the street and taking as much time as needed to listen and help. The library ladies are always happy to take my money for library fines, with maybe just a slight bit of judgement. Local young people spend a few hours here and I usually see a couple of tutors helping them out. It's in a great location right in downtown Kirkland and the transit center. If you need a study break, you can walk a few hundred feet for some coffee or a snack. Great place for us book nerds.

Adding to my COVID Era review below.... I picked up books again without an appointment this morning. The process was still smooth although now that things are rolling along a bit more, I have a few notes: 1. If you don't have an appointment, please plan to wait 15-20 mins at least. This surprised me a bit.... it might have been because I went first thing in the morning. 2. They offer surprise bags and KCLS social media states that you can request a bag for a particular interest level, but when I requested a bag of Car stories for my toddler they told me that this was a bit too specific.... in the end, I skipped the surprise bag - I'll try again at a later date. 3. If you have an appointment, your books will be checked out for you and waiting outdoors on a table.... however, staff stay indoors so the bags are only loosely monitored for the right person to pick them up. Highly recommend picking up your bag on time as otherwise, it seems that anyone could come and grab them! Also, keep in mind that these minor inconveniences are keeping everyone safe and healthy! We will continue to use this service, factoring extra time for pick ups and planning ahead and we are thankful to have our library in operation again!

Easy parking, wonderful buzz in the air of people perusing and enjoying books, and above-average librarians ready to assist you make this one of my favorite libraries in the system. The community room is really nice but reserve it well ahead of time. The kids' reading hours are fantastic; people with real talent run them and it's a great way to get your kids into books.

Very cool little library. Lots to read, nice WiFi space, mtg rooms, ample parking & best of all... friendly faces ;) Even willing to walk you to find a book, if needed, rather than just pointing in some nebulous direction. True customer service!

Gigantic tunnel of parking - and crazily busy all of the sudden as Sunday got later - maybe students crash studying for Monday. Okay enough about the parking. Love the art, both the public and the student art pasted inside. Meeting spaces, event space. The library itself is down the rather cavernous hallway - the library itself feels pretty gigantic; enjoyed browsing the suggested new titles on offer. The used book store appendage outside the main doors was open this time around during my visit. I wish they took more than just cash or check. Could not partake : ( I saw tons of appealing books and also they had puzzles and puzzle books. A great place to spend a couple of hours in Bellevue.

In addition to sections for books, DVDs, audio books, and magazines, there were computer work stations, study room(s)/space(s), and tables with chairs open for use. I looked over some of the books in the non-fiction and biographies sections, opting for a biography on John Muir. On my way towards check out, I found some information about the United States of America naturalization process. I thought that was cool. It also got me thinking about how one would go about learning both about the naturalization process and the history to be tested on for a naturalization test if moving internationally. While I did not get something this time, perhaps a book on the naturalization process logistics would be interesting, generally speaking. Still helpful to have informational flyers/pamphlets with some introductory/resource information available/accessible. Self check out and check out with a librarian stations were located closer to the entrance/exit in the standard KCLS computer set up. At one point he whispered in my ear "You could've told me to Fuck off with the offer I gave you". After he kicked me off the team, he told me the only way for you to be on the team is as a film analyzer, I would watch games and give information. Probably the most disrespectful thing someone could ask a serious athlete. The problem at NU is that as a Christian school there is no form of accountability with staff. There is a thought that a Christian isn't capable of atrocities, but as we have seen time and time again on the news. Disguising themselves with the religion to still have ill intentions and be overcome by human nature like Gary McIntosh. The most devoted Christians are sometimes the biggest devils; pride is the devil. I have brought this to the president's attention, and I was told by Dr. Castleberry that my accusations weren't credible and told me to rather place the blame on myself. The men's program hasn't had a successful year in all the time Gary has been there, no accountability. A former teammate told me that Gary spoke about not caring about winning. NAIA is a competitive league with many players seeking to become professional, do not go to NU if you want to have an athletic career. Gary allowed my teammates to tell me to "go fuck yourself" and even when they said it directly in front of him, Gary took action once by sitting him out for about 5 minutes. Coach Titus was also a witness to many of these harassments during spring season and regular season. I openly expressed to Gary my thoughts on the season prior and how I wanted to Transfer to a different program, I don't think my honesty sat well with him. While he was giving me phone calls praising how I was doing with the team, he suddenly in the middle of practice got into my face and yelled "GET OFF OF MY FIELD" after I hadn't moved into a certain position. Before he yelled, I told him " I thought I was in a good position" does that warrant punishment for Gary to turn orange like a red peach and yell while water falls of saliva come out of his mouth? Ultimately that was my last practice as I waited three weeks in "Probation" for him to come up with an answer whether I would remain on the team or not. In those three weeks the men's soccer team were throwing house parties while I sat depressed in my room just wanting to play. Days before the dropout deadline Gary wasn't responding to me, I had to get Vice President Rick involved. Well, I didn't drop out in time, so I am also 7,000 dollars in debt, debt that was sent to collections. I tried appealing this even when I have emails proving my intent to drop out before Sept. 28th and proving Gary was not in cahoots' with me. Vice-president Rick and President Castleberry denied my request without any investigation. After all I experienced with NU, I still followed the men's and women's team. Never missing a home game for either team, or even traveling to Oregon on my own to support the women's team during their playoff run. Rick was also in attendance at every home game; he never approached me after everything that had happened. I was an outcast at a Christian school, let that sink in. NU did get me closer to God, but not in the way I expected.

I was surprised to find how small this library is, as it truly serves those in the Madrona neighborhood. There are only a few tables for reading in the back end of the library with a small help/informational desk and another to check out books. Although it's a small library, it's mighty! I was impressed with the selection of books, given the size of this location. It highlighted many non-fiction reads that are very popular, that had me tempted to check out! I would say though, that the best selection at this library is the children's section. Tons and tons of picture books for the little ones are found here, along with a decent DVD collection. Seems to be fitting of the clientele. If I was in the Madrona neighborhood I would totally be happy, coming here for books and exploring. Plus, one of the best perks of the Seattle Public Library System is that you can reserve books from other branches and have it sent to any of the locations, so the choosing for Madrona residents isn't really an issue, as long as users are utilizing their services online. Just remember, this library is closed on Fridays.
