It's an older building, with limited parking, but easily bus accessible and expansive inside. Librarians and staff are helpful and friendly. The selection is great, offering popular books not often found at other libraries. The children's section is thoughtfully prepared, giving parents and caregivers the chance to peruse books, CDs, DVDs and still watch their children as they read or play with large LEGO-style blocks. Puzzles and other creative, learning toys are also available. Especially cool is that there is a section in the children's area which maintains a selection of books that have won various awards! read more

This library, to me, exemplifies the classic Pacific Northwest neighborhood library. Even before the expansion a couple of years ago this was a busy, busy place, but now that it's nearly doubled in size it's still a busy, busy place. "If you build it they will come" and they certainly do. There's a nice, bright open feeling to the place with the soaring ceilings, but it maintains a cozy atmosphere with lots of great chairs and places to cozy up with a good book. The selection is larger than in days of yore and they still have a good interlibrary loan system and you won't wait too long for a book. There are tons of computers in there now and they also offer free Wi-Fi in case you don't want to feel obliged to buy a cup of coffee somewhere just to access the internet. This is one of the most visited/used libraries in the system and as odd as it sounds, seeing so many people spanning so many generations gives it a very warm feeling. There are book groups and story hours and lots of community things going on here as well. There's a cool art installation of Plexiglass panels with videos rotating on them which look very cool driving by at night looking in through the large windows. That and the huge fir trees outside just make it the kind of place you feel compelled to visit even if it wasn't your original destination. read more

Was really disappointed in one of the librarians. She has short brown curly hair with a bob. I went to open the door in the stortytime room, and I held it open for her because she was standing next to the door. She sternly and rudely said, "shut the door". There was no kindness in her comment, and I'm not sure why she felt the need to give me attitude. Highly recommend she reconsiders how she speaks to people entering the library. read more

This library is clean, moderately sized, and well-staffed. The best part is that they have real work day hours. None of this 1pm-6pm on every third Monday because our budget was cut down so far that we can no longer afford to wear pants. Speaking of pants, there have been no reports of people wanking while watching inappropriate content on the computer in front of the children's section. So, that's working in this branch's favor, as well. All in all, four stars because you still have to be quiet, and I like my disco music. read more

I'm so glad I got a library card- silly movies from the late 90's, picking books I've already put on hold. What could be better? Well at this location- parking could be a bit better but that's about it. Overall a pretty good library. They should have singles night- I'm always seeing cute guys in there!! read more

I can't help it, I'm spoiled from the downtown library. We came here to see how this library faired and we left pretty quickly. I was hoping that there would be a great children's section since this library caters to a fertile community. However, I was greatly disappointed. First off, there is not a lot of great seating for children. No little tables for them to sit at and read. There were just a few large chairs taken up by people who didn't have children with them and didn't appear to be reading anything from the children's section. Jerks. There also wasn't a lot of fun in this section. A long time ago, I was in charge of a children's library section and we always had a nice display for the theme of the month and tons of fun things to get kids interested in reading. Compared to that place, this children's section was downright depressing. I can't imagine what story time is like here. I may just brave it to find out. The rest of the library is pretty typical of a branch. A few places to sit and read, a few hidden computers. Nothing unique, special or inviting. On top of it, you probably won't leave with the book you came to get. They have a very limited selection and the waiting lists are insanely long. Now I really do understand why people go out and just buy the book. They want to be able to read that book within a year. And yes, the parking is very limited. This library needs some TLC badly. Hopefully it will get it. I'll just head back downtown when I want something from the library. Sigh. read more

I love this library because its my branch. It is easy to use, the librarians are really helpful and the new bookshelf is always full of good stuff. I don't use the computers, but there are usually one or two that are free. There is plenty of space for people to sit and read and work. The paperback books that people donate and others can take without really checking out have saved me a lot of cash and time when I'm traveling. I usually take something from that shelf and bring it back. My only bummer about this branch is that after the remodel they removed the very convenient entrance book drop and the great bookshelf that people dumped their current magazines for others to read. Oh, the parking situation really sucks with people live parking to drop off books in the book drop in a live traffic lane. I feel sorry for the neighbors, but am happy to have a great library very near me. read more

So I thought my love would increase for this library. I think I was awestruck because I came from the small Madrona Library. So this branch seemed large and fabulous. The remodel wasn't really a remodel; they just reorganized some shelves. So, okay, the holds section is bigger and better. But now that I am bringing my son to the library with me, I really notice the kids section, and this one blows. Well, the books are fine, but the space blows. There is one toy and not a lot of seating. I will say that the "remodel" pushed me into the arms of my new library lover: Lake City. For that, I will be grateful to Northeast forevermore. But it's not worth another star. read more

Its a nice library inside with okay enough parking but I was pretty upset today when I was running out of time on a computer. I understand the 90 minute time limit, sort of, but I was transferring files to a USB for all 90 minutes and asked for 10 more from the librarian and she shot me down. There wasn't a wait or anything... but when I got home to check the files they were all corrupt. Very upset. Does anyone know if a library or computer cafe without such time limits? read more

Forget browsing the shelves- nothing is here! BUT it is more convenient to visit spl.org, where you will find all books in the whole library's catalog. You can reserve them online, and you'll get an email when the book arrives at your local library of choice. Nice. So where do all those good books live? I have just never found any books at the NE branch for whatever specific topic I am searching. Oh- and parking is ridiculously hard. Park on 35th and walk the few feet. Their "lot" is for only tiny cars :) And it will be full so don't bother! read more

This location of the library is great! It has great hours if you work (open until 8pm on weekdays)! There's limited parking behind the building and if that's full, there's usually no problem finding street parking. The building was remodeled not that long ago and I read somewhere that it was one of the busier branches of the Seattle Public Library. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you live nearby! read more

Storytime review - this used to be my favorite until they switched children's librarian a few months ago. Before it was an older lady, very calm, even keeled, polite to children, sang fun songs and had a routine the kids were familiar with. Now it's a young one, overly enthusiastic to the point of just not appearing natural. Tells kids to sit down when they are standing up. Reads stories not appropriate for toddlers, does way too much sign language stuff (nice, but doesn't need to be overdone) and doesn't do many songs kids know. Too bad we have to leave our neighborhood now to find another storytime. read more

I love this neighborhood library. I take my 1 year old here all the time. They have a large selection of children's books and fun play area. Right now they are having a summer reading program and the kids can pick out a free book when they visit the library. read more
