Very well organized day which left a favorable impression. Then the epic C19 pandemic happened which essentially robbed him of the latter half of his junior year and all of his senior year of high school. The joys of the college application process. Fast forward to 2021: The Homie accepted his DigiPen offer. Yesterday evening I had a 75 minute Zoom meeting for DigiPen parents. This morning (8/25/21), I dropped him off on campus for orientation. His first semester starts next Monday 8/30/21. I am excited about the next chapter of him starting college, but tempered and grounded in reality. Following his dream will be full of challenges with a rigorous curriculum. Also tuition is exorbitant! His commute between home and campus is not great. I will start with a three star post with a bonus one for pandemic challenges. A future updated post will be made depending on the his personal journey. In the meantime this parent and UW-Seattle grad will celebrate his start at DigiPen, go Dragons!

Although the program for had to go entirely online due to the pandemic, it's been fabulous. The parent educators are engaging, caring and non judge mental. The children's teachers are kind, well spoken and are incredibly thoughtful and imaginative. They have worked so hard to provide an excellent experience for the kids. The projects are fun and interesting, all lessons or labs each week are accompanied by songs, books, visual examples and just a lot of fun. The kids get to share and that has felt so important for them to be able to have that interaction during a time when we have all been so isolated. I know some parents struggle having their kids on Zoom but ours love these lab style classes. They provide materials and everything. Totally worth every penny and overall it's pretty cost effective. We have to get a round of applause for these teachers because as parents, we just could not do this alone. Thank you for keeping this program alive and well online for all of us.

I worked in the Financial Aid department and am sharing my experience from an internal perspective…read more Federal financial aid is complex and highly regulated. During my time there, written procedures and standardized workflows were limited or inconsistently applied. I raised concerns about documentation, clear follow up practices, and transparent processing standards. I observed instances where internal delays and inconsistent follow up affected students' aid timelines. When communication is not clearly documented and tracked, students may be directed toward payment plans while still waiting for financial aid adjustments, increasing financial pressure. Special circumstance reviews and other high impact funding decisions would benefit from clearer documentation, transparent criteria, and broader representation in decision making. Consistency and accountability are critical when students' funding is involved. I also experienced limited tolerance for diverse communication and cognitive styles. A more structured and inclusive environment would better support both staff and students. Financial aid requires precision, documentation, and equity. Stronger procedural standardization and inclusive leadership would improve student outcomes.

Even after graduating, most of the professors still remember their students and are willing to meet up or advise students via emails about further careers. I see a few negative reviews about the fees and public resources. This Is a Private School and any school has its own regulations with both pros and cons. Please carefully select your school before enrolling. I also experienced course registration issues. I was so frustrated! Yet, I'm sure that would also happen with any schools, especially when many of the office employers are actually students who are also trying to learn. We all experience different situations and we grow from these stories in our lives. I love the overall environments, include friendly staffs, faculties, and modern buildings, that make students feel being sincerely concerned. I attended a summer conference event at SU. Many colleges and universities host summer residential…read moreevents with great success. I would not put SU in that category of "great success." We knew ahead of time that the dorm apartments did not have air conditioning. We have stayed at other Seattle schools in August over the last 10 years and while Seattle has its occasional heat wave, the nights are always cooler. This means in the evenings and through the nights, we could open our windows and have the rooms cool down. At SU, only one window would open and it would only open 3 inches. This did not allow for any air flow in the room. The rooms were so hot my computer was overheating and shutting down. The box fan the university provided overheated and died as well. Add to this the fact that the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable (and I have no idea what was in the pillow) I would have been much more comfortable on the dirt outside sleeping. There was one staff member that was helpful. His name was Rain and he understands what "hospitality" means. When I arrived and asked for directions to the building I was staying in (while pulling over 50 pounds of luggage for the conference event) I was told to "wander around" because it was "somewhere nearby). Being on a hillside with lots of stairs and very little access to elevators, this was a problem. The dining hall was the real disappointment, however. Our event was to start on a Monday. ON sunday, we visited the dining hall to see what it was like. They had chicken tenders and fries. We asked about other options, maybe a salad bar. They said they don't do salads in the summer. (WTF?) However, we did actually get a salad bar (maybe a salad "tray"?) that had lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes with ranch or balsamic vinaigrette, and that was it. All week: chicken tenders with fries was the main meal. We had some other forms of chicken along with that, and one night there was a pork tenderloin, and another shredded pork. The workers serving the meals seemed to hate their jobs and served one thing: scoop and plop. Everything was scooped up and plopped in the middle of your plate, and then stacked. In the past we have stayed at Seattle Pacific University, and their dining hall was truly wonderful so I guess we were spoiled. But we cannot go back to a place that openly discriminates. I do think think we will go back to SU again. What shame. It is a great location and a beautiful campus. Why do they have to be so stupid about this potential money maker?
