The parking lot at Kingsgate Library was moderately full today, Thursday 7 December 2023, when I arrived and parked midday. I had a book to return and found the electronic returns slot easy to use with instructions clearly communicated on the screen above the returns slot/conveyer belt. Which door(s) to use on entrance/exit were also clearly marked. Different sections in the library were labeled with signage. In addition to sections for books, DVDs, audio books, and magazines, there were computer work stations, study room(s)/space(s), and tables with chairs open for use. I looked over some of the books in the non-fiction and biographies sections, opting for a biography on John Muir. On my way towards check out, I found some information about the United States of America naturalization process. I thought that was cool. It also got me thinking about how one would go about learning both about the naturalization process and the history to be tested on for a naturalization test if moving internationally. While I did not get something this time, perhaps a book on the naturalization process logistics would be interesting, generally speaking. Still helpful to have informational flyers/pamphlets with some introductory/resource information available/accessible. Self check out and check out with a librarian stations were located closer to the entrance/exit in the standard KCLS computer set up. The desk/counter the self check out computers were located on was in the theme of a large slab of wood for the counter. Looks like they do a major spraying down on the computers with chemicals after they close for the day. And for what? To eliminate germs? That is totally normal, to come into contact with germs EVERY day. That's how you build up your immune system. Not only does they chemicals they spray onto the keyboard and earphones cause cancer, it deprives humans of coming into contact with GERMS, which is VITAL to build up your immune system. read more

Clean place with a small computer section and board book section for kids. I like how they have summer reading programs for all ages (babies to adults). There is a conference room that you can sign up for too. My only issue is the odd hours here. I suspect they exist because there simply isn't a much of a need for textbooks these days with the advent of modern tech and e-books; as well as the pandemic aftermath and staffing issues. Very nostalgic to be here. I used to love going to the library to borrow books. Sad to see that it isn't that popular to do anymore. read more

I appreciate the fact that the major renovation that was completed a couple of years back makes the library feel like a place you want to spend hours just drowning into reading material and forget everything else. In addition they do have printing services with a set number of free printing allowances by card each. The staff is very friendly. They have tutor programs for school age children to help with homework/studies and all this is free...They have flyers by the entrance for services offered by neighboring businesses. KCLS has done a masterful job handling COVID protocols and their checkout process during the pandemic have been stellar. I just wish they revert to the normal hours. read more

COVID era review. I'm impressed and appreciative of the efforts kcls has taken to increase services safely during covid. Pros: My family's reading habits have been sustained. The library has found innovative ways to continue services we depend on like printing! The staff are patient and helpful with questions and clarifications. No late fees!! Limitationss: I have had to learn patience as everything takes longer. Online resources are being prioritized over hard copy materials. Long wait lists for both. Services are closed entirely every Sunday and Monday. (Please know, I understand these limitations are for health and safety and managing limited resources.... I hope these comments help other customers access available services and aren't seen as critiques that should be addressed and fixed.) read more

Nice library branch servicing the Kingsgate area. It offers the basic services such as books, music, dvd's, computer services, and it's well maintained. There may be extended hours and larger branches a little further away, but Kingsgate provides a more than adequate resource for the area. read more

This is the most noisy library I can think of. they do not have many computers and the kids usually hog them to play runescape when others need to do things on them for school. It is quite a pain to try to get anything good because there is a lack of books. I would rather drive a little further to actually get that homework done or a good book. The staff seems to turn a blind eye to the noisy kids. read more

I like libraries so I was excited to check this one out near me (instead of driving to downtown Kirkland). I was disappointed because they don't seem to have to many of the newer books or books from any of the bookclub lists. I wonder where do all the people in the area go to borrow books?! Anyway, I think what I'm going to do is to buy the books I want to read then when I am done, donate them to the library - hopefully if more people do that, this library will have a better collection of books in a couple of years ;-) read more

After reading how "tiny" and "small" this branch is, I was worried it was going to be a big disappointment, but it actually seemed to be a decent size when I finally stepped in today... and the children's section seemed large enough too! I was pleased that it was very well kept and books were actually on the shelves and not just all over the place as though a busload of children (or one with really active, grabby hands!) had been there :) There is a nice selection of board books and lots of picture books too. The other sections of the library seemed to be well maintained as well, and it has so many windows it was nice and bright even on a really rainy afternoon. There is a nice parking lot and I was glad to see that this library seems popular too -- it wasn't crowded, but it seemed like a place people actually do go to read and check out books (hooray for reading!). I'm a little disappointed that the reading group times for little ones always seems to coincide exactly with nap times, but perhaps we'll figure out a way to make it work for us or just wait a while longer before attending when the timing works out better. Overall, I was impressed with this library and hope it will be a nice place to frequent as my little one grows up and wants to check out some more books than the ones in our personal library at home! read more

What a nice little library. I decided to camp here while my daughter was at driver's ed for two hours and was delighted to find clean bathrooms, a quite space, comfortable chairs facing outside, excellent wifi, and easy parking. This is what modern libraries should be: safe public spaces that connect us to information. I can see some issues with noise since its an open space, but I brough my noise canceling headphones, so I didn't notice. Too bad it's nestled in a wasteland of cars and commerce and disconnected from transit. It would be nice to walk or bus here. read more

This is one of the smaller King County libraries and may not be able to fulfill all your needs, but it's great for someone like me who just grabs books and runs : ) There are not that many computers and the ones they have are cramped into a small middle area. When you go to get your held books your odds of bumping someone's chair or them ramming into you are about 98%. And the computers are almost always all being used whenever I'm there, mostly with kids playing WoW or watching YouTube. Darn you kids! *shakes old man fist* If you're doing a major research project or you need a lot of computer time you might be better off going to one of the larger libraries but if you're like me and just order books online and them pick them up it's perfect. The parking is adequate and easy to get in and out of. read more

I like libraries. They have books. I can take them home with me and read them. I guess for me, all libraries serve the same purpose, and this one does its jobs. I can put books on my queue on their website, then I go to this library conveniently located near my new apartment to pick them up.It's quick and painless. It's not as fancy as Redmond or Bellevue library, but it serves it's purpose as a community space. I'll continue to use it as long as I live near by, or at least until the Bellevue branches parking lot stops being a stupid bitch. read more

I usually love this library.. It' s always felt like a place I could let my 11 year old girl and her friend do studying on there own.. a safe place. Not today. Even though I spoke with a woman in charge twice about an obviously disturbed man who was sitting close to me and creating very unsafe feelings for many patrons in this small space, nothing was done. The man was obviously on drugs.. hallucinating, laughing out loud then crying and putting his head in his hands.. staring me down and making bizarre inappropriate gestures.. This went on for an hour, while I tried to work on a document. The police could have offered him some help and a place to detox instead of the public library.. It should be a safe and creative place, not a hangout for those on dangerous drugs.. super disappointed. read more

This library is the worst I have ever seen in my life. No copy machine. I have to make copies at Kinkos, The bathroom sink rarely works and I have to use the drinking fountain to wash my hands. Barely any books. It used to be a fabulous library. It used to be fully stocked with books. Then they closed it down for a year and a half a totally unnecessary renovation. That library was good for another 40 years. They stripped us of almost all reading materials when it finally re-opened. Got rid of the fabulous collection of World Atlases we once had. The only work I can see they did was to move the bathrooms 50 ft further inside the building. Total waste of taxpayer money. I say the only reason the job was done was to get the vote of the architects. I know Nancy Pearl. She tells me it was Mercer Island Library that was supposed to be closed, not Kingsgate, but that the MI community revolted and said no way, they did not want to lose services of their library, not even for a day. I am still livid. Nobody in the Kingsgate Library wanted the unnecessary renovation. It was not "voter approved" as Gary Wasdin loved to say. What we did approve in the election was to keep the library open and not have our hours and reading material reduced to nothing. That's what we voted for: funds to make sure the Kingsgate Library stayed open and fully stocked. read more

I wish the children's section was closed off in a sound proof room. If you're coming to the library to study, research, take a test, quiet time, you're better off sitting at a restaurant because this library doesn't recognize the difference between library & jungle gym/playground. If I didn't mind the noise I would stay at home with my own children to study. read more

I've been spending a lot of money buying books on iTunes and at the store...then today, it hit me...DUH, LIBRARY! Hello. So I swung by the library and picked up a few books (romance, don't judge). They have a limited selection because they are a small library, but good enough for me. The librarians there are always nice. read more

This library gets overshadowed by Kirkland Library since they are within a couple miles of each other, and Kirkland Library is shiny & newer, and has statues and art and stuff.... but this place has great nooks to study in, an awesome area for kids, a comfy local feel and still a great selection, although it is a little hidden of the main road - I recommend checking it out, if you can find it! read more

Tiny little library...its right by my street to the house and I admit I haven't been to a library in YEARS let alone this location. In my opinion if you need a book, you go to bellevue, they are the biggest on the eastside with the best selection. But this location was close and convenient. The lady at the info desk - yes its been so long that I completely LOST my library card - was really friendly and shortly I was on my way. Found my books, checked out and that was that. read more

Sometimes I find this library especially noisy, and the staff doesn't seem to keep an eye on things. Plenty of kids use this facility after school, which is a good thing, but that means available computers are hard to find. Lots of teens study here in groups too, and they are chatterbugs! Nice community room to use by the neighborhood for meetings and such. Big video/dvd selection and children's area is extensive. Magazine areas seems squished into the middle, but they have private (tiny) rooms to reserve for important research or meetings. read more
