There's a rule us Asians use to quickly filter out Asian restaurants that may not be good: who are the majority of folks who are eating inside and who are the chef/cooks? This place didn't pass that test and it may be the only time in history where it proved me so wrong. When we were served the karage chicken with what appeared to be plain mayo I was seriously doubting my choice. It all changed when the ramen came out. This place is legit. They took the time to master their craft and they pay respect to what a proper bowl of ramen is. We both went for the spicy black garlic tonkatsu with differing spice levels; mild and reaper (+$1). Let's start with that -- typically all you pay for is a glob of chill oil that may or may not be spicy. This was not the case here, it added serious heat without altering the flavor. the location is very small, with a capacity of 32 people. they do have a grade A sanitation level, and this was the cleanest i've felt at a restaurant. normally i find myself having to dust off crumbs or wipe my table, but here i did not. i saw the waitress constantly back and forth wiping down tables and making sure the place is spotless. even while she was busy she always made sure to stop by and make sure we were okay. they have two self ordering screens in the front with a large variety of foods to choose from. the ramen was good, but it did remind me a lot of instant noodles because the noodles were thin and the broth was a little bit salty. it did not satisfy my cravings the way i thought it would. especially for $17. the two slices of pork on top were tender and had a sweet taste to them, with a perfect amount of soft fat on the sides. the boiled eggs were very soft, with the yolk perfectly thick in the middle. the portion may not seem large, but i found that i could barely finish half of my order. it is very filling! read more

My brother & I had the karashimiso and tonkotsu ramens. Both were delicious and had great flavors; however, if your spice tolerance is on the lower side I would recommend just the regular miso or tonkotsu since the karashimiso does have kicks of spice to it. It is located by UTA, so if you are a student there or just around the Arlington area this is a solid place when you're craving ramen. Parking can also be difficult as there is limited street parking but there is a parking garage nearby you can park at to then walk over to the restaurant. The establishment itself is majority self service. When you enter, kiosks will be seen to your left where you can input and pay for your order. Then take a seat at any table available and a server will bring you water and your utensils. Our food was brought out fairly quick and there was not much wait time. Unfortunately their website wasn't working (but it started working once I scanned the QR code in their establishment to view the menu)- so I had originally picked a chicken dish that was no longer on the menu. The broth was delicious, it was light and didn't make us feel heavy in any way, the egg was good and the meat was good too. I do wish they added in a little more meat (everyone else we went with agreed they were a little stingy on the meat). It's a tiny establishment, not much seating and it's a little awkward with a huge fridge they have in the dining area that kind of ruins the vibe. Bathrooms were clean, service was friendly and quick. You order via an iPad when you walk in, then sit down and they bring the order to you. Overall, we enjoyed it. I love this place! I was about to update my review when I discovered I never wrote one! Yikes, live been here at least 10 times, have had different ramens and they are all amazing. The broth at Kintaro has depth, is served nice and hot and I love the thin noodles. Something about this ramen makes me feel restored, if I have the sniffles before I go in after a bowl of this ramen I'm back to 100% ( not a medical recommendation, but you get the point I'm making- it's good!) Service is quick and responsive to needs but the place is small so arriving with more than 4 people is challenging with the current layout. I visit Kintaro year round but there are only a few months out of the year that the outdoor seating seems reasonable. Too bad they don't enclose the space with that heavy screen restaurants utilized during COVID, even if only for bar counter style seating to free up some tables. Walk in and order at the "station" then find a seat. Order came pretty quick, and it was not that busy around 4:15 PM. I've tried to go later after 6 pm, and it was packed. It looks small inside, but there were decent sized tables for small groups. I like the wall painting!! The Karashi Tonkotsu was super flavorful with quality cuts of meats and a nice size. I added Habanero, and it was still a medium fire taste. I also ordered the Okanomi Fries. The top layer was great, but then after the top 10 fries were gone, it was bare basic the rest of the way down. So I skipped those. I like that you can watch the action in the kitchen through the plexi glass, and it's nice to see the technique. I would return to try more. read more

Came here for dinner with my husband on a Saturday night. We wanted to sit inside and the place is VERY small so we put our name on the waitlist and we waited for about 20 minutes. I must say that I wasn't expecting to have to enter my order on a tablet, I prefer restaurants that offer full service. I was kinda shocked by this. This sort of thing you see in California so I wasn't expecting to deal with that here in Texas. Once we entered our full order on the tablet the server (maybe half server? since they don't take your order) told us where we could sit. Beers and sake showed pretty fast, followed by the appetizer, chicken karaage. Then we got our ramens that were very good. We really like this ramen place, it's our favorite one in the area. Unfortunately, I can't give this place 5 stars because they don't provide full service.
