TLDR: A nostalgic Bakersfield staple with classic ice cream parlor charm and excellent sundaes. The…read moreservice could be more attentive, but the strawberry shortcake sundae still makes this place worth visiting. ------ I have been coming to this place ever since I was a kid, so it brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. The ice cream parlor decor has not changed much from what I remember, which is part of its charm. It has a clear identity and really feels like a local Bakersfield staple. The service was okay, but it could have been better. We waited a while after being seated before our order was taken, and we also had to wait quite a bit when asking for water. I ordered the tuna sandwich and the strawberry shortcake sundae. The tuna sandwich was good and tasty, partly because the buttery slices of bread added a nice richness. The strawberry shortcake sundae always hits the spot. The cake is a little denser, which I think works well because it doesn't get too soggy as the ice cream melts into it. The vanilla ice cream and strawberry syrup were also delicious, and all the flavors blended nicely with the cake. Overall, I love this place for its nostalgia, character, and the quality of its ice cream. While the service could use some improvement, the ice cream still delivers every time.

We sat down and ordered a 1-person portion banana split and an ice cream sundae. Honestly we felt bad ordering only 2 things and taking up a big table. When the ice cream came, we were shocked at the portions. It was ginormous!!! Not only did dewars deliver on quantity, they delivered quality as well. It was one of the most plentiful banana split I've had where there were so many other topics. We also got rocky road with our ice cream sundae and it was just decadent. We couldn't finish. We were guilty but we just couldn't get ourselves to.

When I walked in, the place was spotless super clean and the ladies working the counter were really friendly. They had a huge selection of paletas different flavors with and without fruit in them de leche or agua. I decided to go with the Tamarindo with Chile and a Coco de leche. My wife had the mango con Chile that had real mango pieces in it . As soon as I bit into the coconut paleta I was in heaven.I shared the coconut one with my wife and she loved it as well. Next was the Tamarindo con Chile that brought back child hood memories of the hot summer days in the 805 when the paletero would pass by ringing the bells on the cart.I was about to leave and noticed the fresh fruit cups in the fridge, so I got one to go for lunch the next day. They definitely gained a new customer today, if your in the mood for some fresh fruit bars or craving the fresh fruit cups la Nueva Michoacana is the spot to go for those hot Bakersfield days, don't make the same mistake I did and sleep on this place. I took pics of the fruit bars after the fact so they're already being devoured!
