Kingfly has a great location on Smallman street and is a great place to grab drinks before dinner in either the Strip or Lawrenceville. The interior is beautiful and is predominately finished with wood and brass. There is a ton of room for seating at the bar, around the distillery, or an entire upstairs. They offer just about every spirit you could want in a cocktail and all are carefully crafted. The flight is a great way to try everything, but one has to be cautious as it kicks in pretty quick - I'd recommend sharing with friends. The painkiller is a top quality drink blending their light and dark rums with orange, pineapple and coconut. The result is an incredibly refreshing and smooth drink. The bar snacks are all reasonably priced and are good to share with friends. I tried the mix and it was the perfect sweet, salty and spicy combo that would go great with any of the cocktails. read more

Pennsylvania's whisky rebellion continues with this Smallman Street upper Strip District jewel. Beautifully designed and full fill cool furnishings from the bar stool to the relaxed and comfy couches, the wood floors, height ceilings and the exposed brink and timber salute the warehouse history of the neighborhood. I had a Old Fashion and fell in love. The bartender carefully crafted a perfect blend of house made bourbon and bitters crowned with a hand carver ice cube sporting a Fly brand insignia- see photo- the drink tasted as good as it looked. The bar features many signature cocktails , I also tried the Lemoncello Collins a perfect warm summer drink. The bar and distillery features a Cooper still that sits in the entry. I only recently discovered this place, and I'm disappointed that I haven't adopted it earlier. We decided to check in after seeing that a band was playing outside on a nice day. On this visit we had Tiki drinks outside and the whole experience was delightful. With our second visit, we had the indoor experience. Vast amounts of space, a second floor, not crowded at all. Anything you would want in these days. The decor was inviting, and had a great feel to it. The drinks were top notch as well. I'll definitely be adding Kingfly to my list of Pittsburgh favorites, and I think it may top the list! read more

I attended an Industry mixer here last night, and it was my first time here (yeah, yeah, I know, what took me so long?). Well, parking was challenging, I ended up finding a spot in some dimly-lit, garbage strewn alley over near Pizzeria Davide, but hey, it was free. The event was held on the second floor and the sponsor provided popcorn, but I was a bit more hungry than that, but there was only a limited drink menu upstairs, so I ventured downstairs, and honestly, I never did find a food menu anywhere, so maybe they weren't making food this evening (I didn't see anyone else eating any either?!?!). I did take Karla's recommendation from her review, and ordered a "Painkiller," which is no longer on the menu, but it is still available. One of those was NOT enough to kill all my pain however, but I wanted to be responsible and not drink too much, as I was driving, but I probably would have needed at least two or three more to kill my own personal pains, as it tasted delicious, but seemed weak in the alcohol department. Anyway, I digress . . . the space is beautiful, the still named "Ester" is very sexy, and I like to support the local scene . . . I just wish they had food to go with those drinks . . . While in Pgh we made sure to check out Thursday jazz night at Kingfly. In truth I'm new to sprits, and these guys were patient and helpful as I tried things and found out what I like. Whatever I drink, I prefer it to be local if possible, so how lucky Pgh is to have a number of great distilleries. We liked Kingly so much we came twice. The atmosphere here is very cool, the staff is great and the products are top shelf. Being from Ohio I didn't realize the PA laws are such that distilleries like Kingly make everything they use, including the bitters, liqueurs and so forth. Pretty impressive. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Service is great, prices aren't outrageous, and the music is great. Not a place to go for food - but they do have small snacks so definitely a good place for post-dinner. We got a table in the back for a huge group of us so we could talk without yelling over the music. Definitely a good place for large groups, tasty drinks, and an authentic and rustic atmosphere. Been so wanting to try this place but often dread the strip area parking. Thankfully they do have a small parking area for a few cars that I was lucky to get a space in. Hands down the decor is Amazing and sucks you right in. The seating at the bar though visually pleasing is uncomfortable and takes you a moment to figure out how to wiggle in and around but there are better seating options further back. The wizards making the drinks were nice and helpful but it did take some time to be acknowledged. You can't really call them just bartenders or baristas because with all the digging around and different bottles and tools needs to make one drink thats what they look like. A wizard mixing up their next potion. I settled for a white Russian that was ok. Kind of disappointing as the small glass I received it in: wasn't even full. For a $10 drink put into a double shoot glass: it should at least be full. My hubs got even more ripped off when he ordered the White rum and though the cup was adorable it was half a tea cup. The snacks on the menu were also nothing I wanted to try. As much as I really wanted to like this place: one drink was enough. It's ashame because the bottle prices weren't really bad and I wanted to try more concoctions but the size of the drinks were really disappointing. I could go a few blocks down and pay the same price for normal sized drinks also with local spirits. read more

Love this place! It is one of my favorite place to grab a great cocktail in Pittsburgh. They have an on-site distillery and make an excellent dark run and lemon cello. The drinks were nice and strong and had the fun detail of the logo being stamped in the ice. They had minimal bar snacks, but they were gluten free and semi healthy, so I appreciated that. My friend and I mixed the roasted eggplant and whipped ricotta together which was amazing! We visited Kingfly in Friday and it was pretty dead. Definitely a hidden gem! read more

My wife and I had our wedding reception/cocktail party in the loft at Kingfly. The space was beautiful, spacious, and consisted of restored brick walls and wooden beams/ ceiling/floor. It apparently had been an old stable house that was restored. The variety of cocktails were awesome (and they make their own tonic). Everything was locally sourced, including beer and soda. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially our bartender Stephen. Kingly is fairly new to holding events and there were a few minor glitches as with any new start up however the staff were quick to remediate any concerns. Overall, we all had a fantastic time! Detail & forethought. If there's an overarching theme to Kingfly, that's the obvious one. At least to this reviewer. So obvious in fact, that I decided to write a Yelp review, which I normally can't be bothered with. THE SPACE: The entire venue practically screams the aforementioned theme, it's so immersive. Most establishments, be it a music venue, a brewery, distillery, winery, etc....fall into the afterthought trap of presenting a bland, barebones interior that then has to be imagined as something other than what it is. The patron is left to try to create & assign a vibe for such a place. That is anything but the case, at Kingfly. The woodwork, stone, & steel throughout create an environment that IS it's own vibe. The bar, the still, the "classroom," the music lounge, the 2nd floor gathering space....all speak to an attention to detail & a continuity of character that envelops you, and presents itself with utter confidence in your surroundings. Some establishments have been open for years, but their interiors still feel like half-finished warehouses, cold & without personality. Even though it's only been open to the public for a few months, Kingfly feels like it's been established for years upon walking in the door, & you immediately feel at home. THE BOOZE: The spirits that they offer are by no means broad in selection, but that narrow selection runs deep in quality. That suits me just fine, as I'd rather have the focus on a few select items that are outstanding, rather than a broad product line that collectively fails to distinguish itself beyond middling. The Commodore Perry is as smooth & flavorful a blended bourbon as you'll find anywhere....I've had 10- & 12-year expressions that pale next to this 9-year gem. For blending, their white rum is exactly the right choice, toeing the proper line between flavor & alcohol presence. And when it comes to the Bliss 1895 spiced rum....goodness, grab your seat, shut your eyes, & savor each sip. Even though they make some excellent cocktails with their spiced rum, to me the notion of blending it is almost heretical, as it's nakedly gorgeous all on its own merits. While there, I'm content to let their talented mixologists work their brilliant recipes....but at home, all I want to do is just sip this stuff neatly. As a spiced rum, it's just THAT good. The limoncello offers a deep personal touch, as it's a direct representation of one of the owner's family recipes, immediately reflecting Italy's "old world" in the generations that it's been passed down. The only Kingfly offering I've not yet had is their vodka, & not for any particular reason other than I just tend to gravitate towards the other spirits when I'm there. I'm sure I'll get to it at some point though, and if their other products are representative of the whole, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. THE FOOD: I can't speak to the food options at any real length, other than I know them to be limited. The scope seems to be firmly in the "high-end snacks" region. If the appropriately (see: thoroughly) soaked rum cake is any example though, I'll be sampling some of their other munchables on a future visit. They've also recently partnered with a local chocolatier...& though the name of that chocolatier currently escapes me, the boozy truffles they've produced with the distillery are table-clenchingly good. THE SERVICE: I've been to Kingfly a handful of times now....their soft-opening, their official opening, and then several visits since, spread out over a few months. If there's one shortcoming I've encountered, it was the speed at which service was rendered in their early weeks. Honestly, I can look past that, as I feel that to be a part of a learning curve that most places deal with in the early stages, as they try to find their legs & rhythm. A newly opened establishment, getting thoroughly slammed with traffic as everyone came in the doors to sample their wares, & experiencing a painful lesson in patronage-to-barkeep ratios. But in that regard, I believe it to be a lesson learned, as every subsequent visit has yielded dividends in service. ENTERTAINMENT: The next thing on my hit list for Kingfly is to pop in on one of their music evenings. As I haven't been there for one yet, I can't include a direct reflection of it in my review. However, I do know the pedigree of the musicians that are being very selectively booked there (as well as the musical caliber of the owners). As such, I can firmly say that my expectations are nothing but high. Alright.....enough of my rambling. If you're looking for a place where forethought & attention to detail are paramount, in both quality of product & venue....then look no further. For such a young establishment in terms of their door date, the backlog of years spent preparing Kingfly for public experience is glaringly evident in everything they do. I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE!! Truly, I do. The space, the people, the service, the spirits, the cocktails, EVERYTHING! Kingfly is a distillery so they make all their spirits in-house. Well, except one (bourbon), but it's because theirs was still in the process of aging when I visited. My friend and I tried a flight of their spirits as well as a few cocktails and I was absolutely blown away by everything we tried. Vodka is usually not one of my favorites, but their vodka was outstanding. In terms of cocktails, I tried the Painkiller and a taste of the Bushwacker from their cocktail menu and both were absolutely phenomenal. On top of amazing spirits and cocktails, I think the space is so cool. It's relatively large and there is an upstairs, which I think might be for special/private events. Our bartender was also incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely one of my favorite places in Pittsburgh that I have consistently recommended to friends. So to you, my friend, I highly recommend you visit Kingfly Spirits next time you're looking for an amazing drink! read more

My bridal party hosted my bridal shower here and the space was staff were amazing! We had the whole upper level for the shower. It is super cute and very open and airy. The drinks are smooth but strong. My man of honor said they were easy to work with as far as planning the shower.The location is great- it's in the strip but not in the main part of the strip so the commute to get there wasn't bad. I will definitely be back here to hang out and try some more spirits. You should definitely give this place a try! read more

A really cool unique building with a good atmosphere and good drinks! It's a great new addition to the Strip district and is right next door to Cinderland's warehouse, so you can easily pop back and forth from one to another. The building is very old school industrial with some of the distilling equipment out in the open which is really neat. All of the drinks are made with Kingfly Spirits own liquor and the staff is very helpful in recommending drinks based on your preferences. I didn't get a chance to try any of the snacks, but they sounded delicious and I will be sure to get some next time I go. Overall, I think Kingfly Spirits would be a great place to go for a date night for a good drink and good experience. read more

Last Saturday night, we stopped in to kill some time before before an 8:15 dinner reservations we had just up the street. Our server was extremely friendly and efficient, stopping by just often enough to keep us happy. Our cocktails were fresh and exactly what we were in the mood for. Lots of different seating areas, and when we were there, the noise level was fine. They have their spirits for sale, all with beautifully designed labels. We picked up a bottle of limoncello to give as a gift, but may end up keeping it. Definitely stopping back in when in the area. read more

Typically there is one or two I don't care for, here, we loved every single one!! We ordered the Bushwacker (top favorite of everyone), Corn & Oil, Pain Killer, high ball lemoncello - The Collins, Dark & Stormy! All were incredible!! This is a really cool venue! They have plenty of space, and a stylish industrial look and warm lighting. I got a flight of their spirits (my favorite was their spiced rum) and an Old Fashioned, both were great. All I can say is wow - what a beautiful distillery in the Strip District. Soon as you walk in you feel at home. Their spirits are as good as any I have had at other distilleries. I tried the white rum, vodka, bourbon, and limoncello (tasting pours are $2, bourbon is $3). All had unique flavor with no overpowering alcohol finish. If you don't drink come in anyway to check the place out. They have coffee and snacks, comfortable group seating areas, and a beautiful bar. read more

We came here with a large party thinking that we could order small dishes as it was dinner time but this place doesn't offer anything but munchies such as hummus and dips. Although that's the downside to this place, we absolutely loved it! It had such a great calming atmosphere and there was plenty of space. Decided to give Kingfly another chance. My wife ordered a drink that was fairly new to their menu. Neither of the two bartenders knew how to make the drink. They ended up having to look it up and they each made one. The two drinks looked nothing alike and it took more than 20 minutes. After we had finished our first round, we were planning to order another drink, but were ignored at the bar for long enough that we just decided to leave. This is such a cool place to go for drinks. Located in the heart of the Strip District and near a parking garage so you don't have to worry about trying to find a parking spot. We went for a friend's 40th birthday where they reserved the back room. This was a perfect spot for 50+ people where you can bring in your own food and are not charged a room fee as long as you hit a certain drink minimum. I love the atmosphere of Kingfly as it is a trendy warehouse yet intimate gathering space. Our waitress was great and they have a nice drink menu. The cocktails have fancy ice cubes and garnishes and range from $10-$15. Don't worry if you are not a fan of liquor like me. They had cider and beer options. I had a can of cider for $5. Kingfly is a great space for an event! We threw a 40th birthday party. The venue is great, the drinks are excellent, the space is awesome. We were able to bring in our own food which was great due to a variety of dietary restrictions. Overall cannot recommend it highly enough. The one problem is that Noelle the events coordinator will not return any of your emails or calls. You can work around this by just going in and asking for the manager who is super helpful and will take care of everything. read more

A lot of the other reviews made me excited to come enjoy live music and a good cocktail, however we were sadly let down. We stopped by yesterday to hear live music and it was very busy, so much so that it took 50 min from the time we sat down until we got our drinks. Great atmosphere and tasty cocktails did not make up for the poor service. They seemed understaffed for the crowd. read more

The vibe at Kingfly is pretty neat. I was there on a Friday night and it was fairly crowded but not overly so. They had a food truck outside and some themed cocktails to go along with the food. I ordered a standard old fashioned and it was good. Nothing super special. They do have some snacks that they sell. We had the eggplant hummus and the feta spread.
