Since SF is criminally lacking when it comes to Taiwanese food, pretty much every trip down to OC has to include getting my fix. Typically, that has always included an order of Beef Noodle Soup and/or Braised Pork Rice Bowl (I'm on a never ending mission to find the best of both), but, lately, I've been finding myself craving fried pork chops more and more! So, after randomly coming across Kingchops during my most recent visit, it almost felt like a sign that the world wanted me to come check this place out! From the outside, there may not be much about Kingchops that stands out in any sort of way, but the interior is another story - the decor reminded me so much of some of the eateries/cafes I've been to in Asia. More importantly, though, the menu is pretty interesting. As their name suggests, pork chops are their specialty and offer it as part of several different dishes, but they have so much more to offer. Whether you want something light or heavy, they have a solid selection of classic appetizers, soups, street foods, braised dishes, rice plates, both dry noodles and noodle soups, and dumplings to choose from! -- BRAISED PORK RICE Sadly, this left me feeling super conflicted. On the plus side, the pork was super tender and had a sort of lusciousness to it. On the other, the portion of pork felt light relative to the rice bowl and both some of the pork and the sauce felt rather fatty. -- DRY PORK CHOP NOODLE Ehh...this was fine. Not surprisingly, the pork chop was my favorite part of this dish, as the batter was crispy and the pork was decently juicy. However, while I liked the egg and the noodles, the ground pork was a bit dry and there was a ton of bean sprouts. Even though nothing that we tried impressed us as much as I had hoped, everything was far from awful. A small change here and a tiny tweak there easily could've changed things. Plus, service here is pretty solid, as the workers were friendly and our dishes came out quickly, and the prices are relatively budget friendly, especially for what you get. It's just that, given how it's Irvine, it feels like you don't have to go far to find alternatives that taste the same or better. All in all, I definitely wouldn't mind coming back, especially given how popular Kingchops seems to be and so that I can try a few items in particular, but, in the mean time, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

The pork chops are crispy and very tasty. The place hasn't been super busy but there were quite a few takeout orders. Service is self ordering kiosk or QR code ordering at the table. The staff are always very friendly and happy. My daughter and I really enjoyed the pork chops here.

Good experience overall. Their popcorn chicken rice plate was good and simple. Ordering is super straightforward, scan the QR code on the table, place your order, and choose whether you want to keep a tab open or close out right away, then your food comes out. It's quick and convenient. The setup is efficient and low-pressure.

This is my second time at Kingchops and once again I really enjoyed the food. The large portion of food you get for the price is such a good value! The porkchop is so delicious and I love the vegetable sides it comes with. We ordered the green tea and black tea with our meal and they were the perfect compliment. You order through your phone using the QR code on the table and pay up front. The lady working today was really nice and welcoming. She greeted us immediately with a smile and got us water. Great customer service from her. The ambiance in the store is so so pretty with the vines hanging from the ceiling. I should have taken a picture of it but I actually said wow when I walked inside.

This is a great spot if you just want some Taiwanese food that hits the spot. I got the signature beef noodle and the chicken leg rice. The signature beef noodle came with your classic daikon, pickled mustard flavoring, and the noodle was nice and QQ! The chicken leg rice was nice and crispy without being too oily, and the rice typically comes with the minced pork topping which we opted out for since we didn't eat pork. The rice dish also came with a side of seaweed egg drop soup. Great flavors and great portions! I also got a side of jasmine green tea for only an extra $3! The service was nice and quick, and everyone was very friendly! The tables comes with drawers of utensils so you can get them yourself, and ordering is done through the QR code located at each table. Ambiance was your typical casual dining, and had nice music in the background. Definitely give them a try!

I love the pork cutlet and all of its sides. It's juicy and has a good crunch. I got the regular size. Previously, the regular size came with more pork chop and a soup. Maybe they changed their menu since then. Would still recommend. Lots of parking and the interior is very cute and woodsy looking. Service is always very fast

Service was quick, but we also went when they first opened (5pm crowd). I like that you order off the menu via website. It makes the experience more enjoyable when you can order when you feel ready, but they still checked on us before to ask if we had any questions. The popcorn chicken was good, it had a strong basil flavor too. I am not a fan of wood ear mushroom, so I just left it to the side. Food came out quick as well! The had a cold noodle on the menu that I'd like to try next time as well. The restaurant can get a little noisy, as the volume felt a little high and there were only two parties in there, but it's a casual dining experience so I didn't expect quiet either.

Cozy Taiwanese spot for a quick lunch/dinner, with some dishes being better than others. The restaurant is fast-casual, and you are required to scan the QR code for the menu and to order your items. There was one server working at the restaurant, who was very friendly and dropped off our ordered items. Ambiance is so-so, as you can see and hear everyone else in the restaurant. The plates average between $16-18 now, and we ordered popcorn chicken rice, pork chop rice, and pork chop noodle soup. The best item was the popcorn chicken rice, as the popcorn chicken was perfectly fried and had a ton of basil (which i love). The pork chop was tasty, but not the best I've had. The rice dishes came with a side of rice and (tiny bit of minced pork), sauteed cabbage and steamed broccoli. Sides were nothing to write home about. They also came with a seaweed soup starter, which was too salty to finish. The noodle soup was not good, the broth was flavorless, the vegetable was boiled lettuce (?) and noodles were overcooked. For me, the only thing worth coming back for is popcorn chicken or porkchop.

We had the braised pork rice bowl, fried pork chop rice, and popcorn chicken. When we went I think we smelled that someone ordered stinky tofu. I honestly don't mind the smell as I like stinky tofu, but it's not for everyone. The braised pork with rice is great, I've always loved braised foods and the Taiwanese version of it hit the spot. Great flavor and a soft bite. The fermented greens goes hand and hand with braised foods. The fry on the pork chop was crunchy and not too oily. It was not dry at all and it paired well with the pickled veggies that it comes with. The popcorn chicken was decent, always love eating the crunchy bits of basil it normally comes with.

I had to come here and try their Crispy Pork Chop. I've been seeing too many pics pop up on my feed and I have been craving it for a while. Their menu seems like it may have a lot of items but it's a variety of starters, soup and rice dishes. I had ordered the Crispy Pork Rice, Cold Cucumbers, Spicy Wonton, and Braised Pork Belly Rice to try out. The verdict on the crispy pork is as I expected, it was delicious and that in itself would probably be the one item I will order again. It doesn't have the super crunch like a fried pork belly but the seasoning was very tasty. The cold cucumbers went so good with everything and even itself as it had a good flavor, and crisp to it. The wontons were nice, spicy and soupy as they should always be. Lastly the Braised Pork was very tender but the best item was the Crispy Pork for sure. The restaurant itself has a nice casual vibe as it's a small family owned restaurant and I'm glad I finally tried it out.

There are so many better Taiwanese places in the area than Kingchops. We've been here a few times, and I keep hoping it will get better, but it doesn't. The service is non-existent, and you have to do everything yourself. You order via their app and pay via the app, and all they do is bring the food out. And they're always in a rush! It's never really that busy. Plus, the music is super loud here; I don't know why that's necessary. The food leaves much to be desired, as they use the same vegetables for different dishes. For instance, "seasonal vegetables" are just napa cabbage and have always been napa cabbage. Why even say seasonal vegetables? It's so misleading. The popcorn chicken is a decent dish, but it is pretty heavy and does not have flavor. Avoid the beef curry at all costs; the beef is not edible. Bamboo shoots are okay but come with a lot of liquid. I found it overall disappointing and with bad service, it's a hard pass.

I ordered the pork chop rice, spicy beef noodle soup and tofu with preserved egg through Uber Eats. The pork chops came in a separate container from the main rice dish which also Included some minced meat, glass noodles, veggies and half a boiled egg. The pork chops flavor was savory and delicious and even better after I stuck it in the air fryer for a few minutes with a pleasant crisp in every bite. The glass noodles was also rather flavorful and enjoyable. The rest of the dish wasn't impressive though. There was only about a spoon of the minced meat on top of the rice and it was rather bland. The veggies were more or less a side of what appears to be boiled cabbage. And also some pickled greens on the rice. Next, the spicy beef noodle soup was a bit of a disappointment. The noodles were a bit overcooked even though it was separated from the soup in another container. I noticed it was already soggy at the bottom as I mixed it into a bowl with the soup. Despite it being called "spicy noodle soup" it was not in the least bit spicy. In fact it tasted a bit sweet with also a possible hint of cinnamon. There was only one piece of what appears to be Daikon in the soup, tiny bits of tendon and a few slices of beef. I also was not a huge fan of 2 large leafy greens, the kind that seems to be best suited for burgers rather than for soups. This noodle soup lacked flavor and spice, not indicative of the typical Taiwanese beef noodle soup one reminesces of. The tofu with preserved egg was a nice way to end the meal. While it was light, the green onions, soysauce and other garnishes really brought out a bold flavor for such a delicate dish.

Kingchops is a Taiwanese restaurant that specializes in classics like Pork Chop rice. Its a small restaurant inside, so I'll typically order food for take out. The food is made quick, resonably priced, and is consistently good. My go to are the pork chop rice or chicken leg rice. The dishes come with tofu, boiled egg, and vegetables - they'll rotate between steamed cabbage, brocolli, or others. The pork chop is consistently great. Its what they're known for. The thickness, texture, and flavor of the porkchop is top notch. Its also tastes cleaner, and not as greasy as other pork chop rice plates in Irvine. The side veggies, tofu, and egg with the plates are ok. They complement the dishes, but aren't anything to rave about. I've also had pan fried and steamed dumplings there, which are decent. read more

We always get the Taiwanese fried pork chop rice or with rice noodle soup. The pork chop is authentic and in consistent quality. We enjoyed their appetizers too. Stinky tofu is tasty and juicy. And popcorn chicken comes with fried basil. read more

Best Taiwanese dishes! Pretty new, cute modern restaurant. Fast service! Only one unisex bathroom. Its popular & busy! Recommend go there before it get busy during lunch & dinner hours. First time went there on Saturday. The waiteress was showing not happy face made my family & I feel not comfortable. But the food were delicious and good price! Pretty solid Taiwanese pork chop place! Portions are massive, whether you get the pork chop rice or pork chop noodles. Comes with lots of veggie sides, which I love. FYI though, their cold cucumber dish has chili oil in it! Ordering is a little confusing; we scanned a QR code to get to the menu, selected our items, but then were not able to pay, so ended up paying after the meal at the register. read more

All food are good. Can't go wrong with fried pork chops and fried chicken (leg) and service is also Frendly. Only thing I hope is that they can extend the afternoon hours and add more sraff (they have a break 2pm on weekdays and 2:30pm on weekends. read more

Ordered the minced pork rice. Looks nothing like the pictures on yelp. It was just straight up fatty pork oil over rice, half an egg that tasted like nothing, and boiled cabbage. Flavor was ok, but I just couldn't eat straight fat over rice. Was there a change in ownership or what to explain the discrepancy between what was provided versus the pictures online. Really delicious with pretty generous portions. The chicken leg rice comes with three pretty hefty-sized pieces of dark meat, seasoned and cooked perfectly to a juicy consistency. The stinky tofu comes with an accompaniment of sweet chili sauce and garlic soy sauce along with pickles, and it's one of the better interpretations of this much-loved Taiwanese dish that I've had stateside. Service is friendly and expedient, a winning combination. Definitely coming back to this place! read more

It's relieving to see that this place really takes the COVID-19 precautions seriously on another level. They have hand sanitizer readily available, and they blocked off part of the restaurant by setting up tables to use as a pick up station for phone/delivery app orders. || T I P S || -Their signature dishes are the fried pork chop or chicken leg -Call in advance to place a phone order. They do get very busy with take out orders. -Check your order once it's ready. Since it does get hectic during peak hours, it does seem like they do tend to forget to pack certain items in an order. || L O C A T I O N / P A R K I N G || -Cross Streets Jeffery Rd. & Irvine Center Drive. -Located next to Shabu Shabu & Grill and Clay Oven Indian Cuisine. -Shares the same plaza with Sunlight Tea Studio, Duke Bakery, I-Tea Cafe, Four Seas and more! -It can be crowded given that the plaza consists of a lot of popular food options, but nowadays, most people do takeout so it hasn't been difficult to find parking. || S E R V I C E || I tried calling them to place a phone order multiple times, but their line was busy, so I ended up just ordering there. The staff were very welcoming and provided recommendations when they heard that it was our first time. We ordered for a family of 4 so our order was quite big. Unfortunately, we should have checked the order before we left, because when we got home, we found out that we were missing 1 order of soup/noodles. When we called them to let them know, they were very understanding and gave us 3 options to rectify the situation: get an instant refund, pick up the missing order now, or leave your name and phone # and let them know when you place an order the next time so they could give us our missing soup/noodles. We opted for the last option, and came by the next week. Not only did they honor what they said, they ended up giving us 1 complete combo (soup/noodles + pork chop + green tea) for free as they felt apologetic that we had to drive all the way up to retrieve the order. Now, that is what I call excellent service! || F O O D / D R I N K S || Pork Chop ($12.25/combo) - Tastes like they fried and braised the pork chop, which makes it taste less oily than a fried pork chop. Each order comes with more pieces of pork chop than I expected. Some places flatten out the pork chop to make it seem like they're giving a lot, but they do not do that here. In addition, the pork chops are super flavorful and it pairs well with both noodle soup or rice. a). With Noodle Soup Contrary to their pork chop, some may say the soup is a little bland, but I find that it's a good balance with the strong flavors from the pork chop. The soup has a strong garlic flavor which I like, and it's creamy but it's not overbearingly rich like a tonkotsu broth. b) With Rice The rice comes with minced pork on top along with steamed vegetables, bean curds and an egg. I personally prefer the noodle soup option since I tend to gravitate towards noodle soups, but the rice combo is packed with lots of sides. Jasmine Green Tea - The combo comes with complimentary Jasmine Green Tea and for something that was complimentary, I wasn't expecting much. I figured it would be like most places; overly sweet flavor to cover up the watered down tea, but it was not the case here. The tea was fragrant and had a stronger tea flavor than some boba tea shops out there. Overall it was a nice palate cleanser for the fried foods. read more

This is our go to place when we crave traditional pork chop rice. I also always love the minced pork rice with stinky tofu and Taiwanese kimchi. Everything is delicious and reminds me of my childhood! The service is awesome too! read more

Haven't been to this location for a long time, finally came back and give it a try. The flavor fulfills my crave for Taiwanese food. The rice noodle soup and popcorn chicken rice plate are so good, especially they put a good amount of basil leaves in the popcorn chicken. Highly recommended! read more

The place was not too busy on an early Sunday evening. Great food and quick service for a party of 7. You order via QR code on the table and the food came out within 10 minutes and was very fresh. Looking forward to coming back soon! read more

I had a really unpleasant experience at this restaurant. When I arrived, I let the waitress know that my phone camera wasn't working, so I couldn't scan the QR code menu. I politely asked if there was a printed menu available, but she was very dismissive and just said, "Only QR code." Trying to make it work, I found their takeout menu online, but she seemed visibly annoyed that I hadn't ordered yet. When I tried to explain, she cut me off and told me to just use the takeout site without realizing it was for takeout orders. I placed my order anyway, and she said it was fine. After waiting a while, she told me she hadn't received my order. I reminded her it was a to-go order since I couldn't access the dine-in menu. She eventually found it, and I asked if I could just eat there. At first, she said no because it was marked as takeout. When I reminded her again about my camera issue, she finally said, "Fine, you can eat here," but with such attitude that I felt uncomfortable and just left. To top it off, she didn't even include any utensils with my order and she didn't even apologize for the misunderstanding. The food was okay, but honestly nothing special definitely not worth the experience I had. I left feeling unwelcome and embarrassed. I love this place so dang much. My boyfriend recently introduced me here and I've already been back a couple times now. Definitely developed a newfound love for Taiwanese food. I've tried the Spicy Wonton Noodles, which is served dry and totally delicious. The wontons are big and juicy and I just love that I get to have two of my favorite things in one dish: wontons and noodles. They also top it off with this minced pickled vegetable (similar to relish, but not relish) and all the flavors just go together so well. Their pork chops are FANTASTIC but I must say, I fux with their chicken legs more. I typically order one of these guys with my Spicy Wonton Noodles. Everything is relatively inexpensive but for those looking for the best bargain, they do have a combo dish where you can get Taiwanese Noodle (dry or soup) with a side of pork chops. Also - SHOUT OUT to Wilson and the rest of their friendly staff. Wilson was really helpful during my first visit and gave lots of good recommendations, including the chicken leg tip. 5 stars for the food and 5 stars for the service! My favorite here is the pork chop noodle. You have the option to choose whether you'd like soup or dry noodle. I usually get it with the delicious pork bone broth however I am starting to really enjoy the dry noodle ever since they started serving complimentary free green tea. I think the free green tea is served all day but for dine-in only and you get free boba with check-in. The deep fried pork chop is marinated to perfection, juicy on the inside and not too oily on the outside. The service here is always on point and attentive. Love this restaurant!!! I ordered their spicy beef noodle soup and it is the best I've had in OC. The soup has a spicy flavor with a Sichuan pepper kick to it. The soup base is not very heavy, but had a rich vegetable and tomato taste to it. Beef slices are not overcooked. I love how they included a piece of radish and couple pieces of tendon in the soup. Overall I think this is a better beef noodle soup than other places I have tried at in OC. I will come try their signature pork chop and chicken leg next time!!! Read the reviews on YELP and quite a few people recommended the Chill Chicken. Right away, they welcome you with a smile. Not too many Caucasians which is a good sign. :) Robert, one of the servers, was very helpful. He recommended the Chill Chicken "dry" which means without sauce. Right choice. This place seriously has the best pork chop rice I've ever had in my life.. I've been eating Taiwanese food all my life, both in the U.S. and in the motherland and Kingchops probably has the most authentic taste in my opinion. I used to love this place but this time was very disappointed. We ordered the chicken rice and the side dish was extremely salty to a point it was bitter and yucky, can't be swallowed. The chickens were also over fried. The beef from beef noodle was not as tender as before and the wonton noodle was too oily. Sorry to say these but hoping the food quality could improve. read more

You can also get a free iced green tea with check-in, but it's a little strange because my brother didn't check-in but his meal also came with a cold green tea. Not iced, but it was chilled and they refilled it for free. It's actually a pretty refreshing drink to have, it's a nice touch. read more

This is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant in Irvine. I always get the pork chop noodle. It comes with a cup of tea and unlimited refill. All for less than ten dollars, pretty reasonably price for the area. Good place to stop by for quick grub read more

I love coming here. We've been several times and have had great food and great service. I especially love the brick oven pizza...delicious! It's great for couples and also families. We love sitting out on the patio... nice atmosphere. read more
