This is my second time trying King Taco and my first time at this location. We got in about an hour before closing. Luckily there was only a couple people ahead of us. The store was clean, quiet and spacious. I thought service was friendly and quick. We got our order about 10 minutes after ordering. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos, 2 al pastor tacos, and a pork tamale. With our order came 2 sauces. The quality wasn't bad but I found the tacos to be a bit dry compared to the El Monte location. The tortilla was dry, a little stiff and not that hot. I was just expecting them to be a bit more softer and juicier. Just fyi the tacos didn't come with limes. Went in to order with a king taco gift card, they swiped the gift card three times! And they kept saying declined, as a result I paid with my credit card. It was very confusing since I knew the gift card had credit. Then when I was waiting for my food a different cashier flagged me down and asked if he could swipe the gift card to check the balance, and he did. The gift card came up as having $30 balance. I asked if they could refund me and use my gift card as payment and they refused. Embarrassing to say the least. Today I ordered 10 minutes before two firemen walked inside the building. Once they ordered they were offered a 15% discount as well as their food prepared immediately. I had to wait and pay full price. I asked the associate why. He told me because they're city workers. I looked at him. So am I. I'm wearing a uniform just as they are. With a city badge on my chest. He then says we'll only first responders. I said I'm that as well. I work for the forestry department. Without me and my crew the city would not be cleaned up of all the trees that fall on a daily basis. He then says it's only for fire and police. I have been in a search across LA for the best bean & cheese burrito so that is what I had. The flour tortilla was tasty, refried beans thick but not too thick. The beans seem to lack flavor and salt. The burrito was bigger then I expected. However, they person who prepared it didn't know how to roll a burrito properly. I'm shocked I haven't done a review sooner!! This has been a favorite stop for years. We used to live in the San Gabriel Valley, and this was a place we often visited. Once we moved it's been the perfect stop on the way home after a day at Universal. The food is number 1 for me and the hubby. We are big fans of the all meat burritos. You can never go wrong with the red sauce (if you like hot). The location is not the best if you're looking for parking. There is a lot of meter parking and I believe you can still use the parking structure across the street and there is no free parking. It's never been a big deal for us, as one of us will go in and order, while the other will drive around the block a few times. I would never say they make the best bean and cheese burrito. It's passable, but not as good as many others. I will go to any King Taco at the drop of a hat for their hot sauce. I love them both. I usually use one or two red and can easily go through four of the green. I usually order double red in the burrito itself and eat as much green as they will give me. The lead guy behind was counter was a complete ass whole today (the entire ass). I politely asked for green sauce on top of my asada nachos, but he told me no, I can't have that. Sometimes, I can't help but feel that people's random nastiness toward me is racially motivated--(I'm richly blessed with melanin). If this was his motivating factor to dismiss me, these are very sad times we are living in. A lot of my friends don't like king taco because they don't think its authentic tacos, but honestly, their taco beats a lot of the pricier onces in bougie stores so its honestly a win in my book. Came here to get some food to go. Now I love King Taco. The meat they use, the salsas and I absolutely love their agua de Piña. This location however is just not it. My mom and I ordered some carne asada nachos and a carne asada quesadilla. It took 45 minutes! Of course King Taco typically has a wait and I will gladly wait my turn. But what was frustrating was that it took that long because of UberEats! The amount of in person customers ordering there were a few but 8 UberEats orders for prepared before my order. I just feel there should be a better system; especially when you have customers in person wanting to eat and enjoy your food and establishment. Now the food itself was delicious but wow have they gotten stingy with the meat quantities. The quesadilla was ok in portion but the nachos were more cheese and jalapeños than meat. They also have gotten stingy with salsas; every other location will happily give you extra salsa upon request. Here they give you ONE and want to charge you ¢95 per extra salsa; which are small to begin with so definitely overcharged.
