First time I tried this restaurant the food was good. However, this time they could not get my order correct. I order a Carne asada burrito with nothing but rice, cheese, and meat. The first time they put beans in it, I returned the burrito and again told 2 different people nothing but cheese, meat, and rice. This time they put some kind of sauce in it. I was a valued customer. I order a chicken burrito w/ Avocado. I didn't received the Avocado. I paid $2.50 for it. I called the cashier Mari. She lied and said she would leave a note. She didn't. I asked to return the remaining of the burrito. She said No don't come down there. I come w days later . I talked to the Owner who is a liar and cover up for Mari I talked on the phone for 20 min still he continued to lie n tell me about the refund policy that doesn't exist. There is no refund period. Our local spot for Tacos. We are "gringos" but think we can tell pretty good food. This place is always very welcoming and our regular order of tacos Al pastor and La cabeza are usually very good. Sometimes terrific. Horchata and Tamarindo and we eat for well under twenty dollars. My wife tries to order in Spanish which they seem to like but there is no need to worry about language here. It is a basic place. Not fancy at all. Many kinds of workers come in to get takeout. The family started with a truck stand and now has three places in Pasadena. Kids are welcome. La Estrella has been my go to for burritos for several years, thanks to an old friend. The burritos are a good size - I usually have leftovers unless I just worked out. The al pastor rocks. I like to add avocado, cheese, & sour cream to the pastor burrito, w/ a side of the red hot sauce (pretty hot but not face melting) & lime. All their locations are good but the one on Fair Oaks was extra friendly and accommodating when I was pregnant and picky. read more

This is the less busier of the two La Estrella. Is there a reason. I ordered the nachos. They use that fake nacho cheese stuff, which I normally enjoy, but here it's almost like a soup. The chips get soggy really quickly. It tastes okay, but the asada lacked that charred and flavor I prefer for my asada. They charge $0.50 to use your credit card, so bring that cash. read more

All these years and I thought I had already reviewed the place but had actually reviewed the joint next door in the strip mall next to the laundromat. Disregard that one and focus on this one going forward. If I'm in Pasadena there are only 2 options for tacos, IMO. There's the og spot on Fair Oaks and Villa and then there's this spot. I've been coming this sit-down spot since they opened and they have rarely ever let me down. I usually order 3 tacos de asada con todo and 3 tacos de carnitas con todo. I have sampled the entire taco menu, with the exception of the chicken tacos. The cabeza and lengua get honorable mentions, too. In addition to the tacos I also like to order an all-meat asada/carnitas hybrid. All it has is the meats, cilantro, onions, and red salsa. That's it. I don't go for rice or beans, because that usually dilutes the burrito. In fact, if I wanted beans and rice, I would just stay home. I always have that shit on deck. The all-meat burrito will cost you $1 extra but it's so worth it. read more

Plus the loud speaker right behind her playing music doesn't let you hear her when you ask questions and she doesn't seem to care. It's ridiculously loud. I went on Saturday to pick up some burritos for lunch. They had tables to keep customers away from the cashier and no sitting inside due to the Novel Coronavirus. However, while the lady was assembling the tacos and the burritos, I observed her using her bare hands to assemble including touching the raw condiments that go inside. This is not hygienic, to say the least in consideration of everything that's going on with the pandemic the kitchen staff must wear gloves. La Estrella has been a pretty popular taco spot in Pasadena for quite some time and was once my favorite. Although quality of food is not the same it is till very good triumphing many other taco locations in my opinion. This location is the one I most frequent because the parking is easy in the lot or residential area. The location itself is no frills, but you can sit inside and eat. It's more like fast food in my opinion with you ordering it and then picking it up (no one brings it to your table). I did see some complaints regarding cleanliness of the location and although I have never seen a pest it could be cleaner. I used to be a somewhat regular of La Estrella but unfortunately customer service has been poor more times then not. This last visit the young man at the register was courteous and the wait time was reasonable. In the past I have been the only customer and waited up to 30 minutes for food. Another complaint I have is how stingy they are with the salsa. First let me say, the red salsa is amazing (it makes the food in my opinion) but they gave me two only for a three person order (burrito, taco plate, and additional order of tacos). You can purchase more salsa for .50 each cup, I just think they give too little up front for the orders. These reasons have led to me coming sparingly. My favorite order is the taco plate: two tacos, rice, and beans. Their rice and beans are very good and you cannot go wrong with tacos there. Most love the asada meat but I prefer their chicken. The fish tacos were once a favorite of mine here and although they are still good I'd say you can get comparable elsewhere for similar or cheaper price. All in all I still give La Estrella 4 star rating because I still have preferance of their tacos over other taco spots. read more

I tried to eat at this place, but I couldn't please an order, no one was speaking English and I don't speak Spanish. So I tried to point with my finger at menu and asked for my tacos to be cooked well done. They completely messed up my order, because there was a language barrier , they didn't understand me and I didn't understand them. AMAZING FOOD I got extremely hungry around 11:30 one night. My boyfriend went to pick me up some nachos at a highly reviewed food stand. When I received my nachos not only were they bland but they had meat in them. I'm a vegetarian so that's a big no no for me. We gave them away and I found this restaurant still open for the next 20 minutes. As soon as I got there I couldn't speak any Spanish so I just said "veggie nachos and veggie burrito please" and she made exactly what I wanted. I ate all the nachos that night... And when I ate the burrito the next morning it was absolutely amazing! I can understand if other people don't like the look on a servers face or something. I'd also be upset if I was working at midnight frying food for people who are just going to give you bad reviews. All I wanted was delicious food served up quickly and that's just what they did. This is one of my favorite places to grab food on the go. The service is fair and quick, though during lunch time make sure to phone in your order or be prepare to wait 10-15 minutes for your order. They have really good consistency on the food and most importantly flavor. I recommend getting their "milanesa" torta, it never disappointed me, or their chorizo and papa tacos are always delicious. I particularly enjoy their free chips and salsa, they are always fresh and deliciois, not super spicy, it has just the right taste to go along with any meal. So, dear manager/supervisor/owner: please be careful who you hire and talk to the people at the front because you're going to lose some business this way. The food is delicious don't get me wrong. But here's my problem. EVERY TIME I order REFRIED PINTO BEANS, they give me the whole beans instead, which is NOT refried. We have ordered in Spanish, we have ordered in English, and guess what, they still get it WRONG. I will be dreaming about their refried beans all day, drive 45 minutes to come get it, I get home and they gave me the WRONG beans !! Come on people ! Your only job is get the customer the food they ORDERED. And you can't even do that??? You're working in the wrong place. Because this happens to me ALL the damn time. And I go there twice to 3 times a week. It's ridiculous. Either the cook doesn't know how to do his job, or the cashiers they're hiring just know NOTHING.
