The last time we were here, it was during a busy lunch and both the service and the food were below par. But tonight, it wasn't as busy and our server, Geovani, was excellent. First, we were quickly greeted and asked to select our table (since they were not that busy). Since there was only two of us, we picked a table for two. But, after we decided that we would split an appetizer and an entree, the table for two became way to small way too quickly. Geovani jumped right on this, suggesting we move to a larger table. He helped us move everything over and, voila, we were able to stretch out and relax and enjoy our meal. We started with the pear and blue cheese salad and, wow, we could have just ordered this, split it, and we would have been full. Very flavorful, generous portion that is definitely big enough to share. We also ordered the Sausage & Leek Fettuccine and I was definitely not thinking. Totally forgetting that leeks are part of the onion family (and I have a sensativity to onions). Once the dish arrive, I immediately noticed the similarity and was slowly trying to pick them away from my portion. Once again, Geovani came to our rescue. He asked how everything was and I told him I made a mistake (noted above). He quickly volunteered to have the kitchen make it again without the leeks. I asked, "Are you sure?", and he immediately said yes and removed the dish. Very shortly after, he returned with the "onion sterile" dish and it was wonderful. Both of us were so full you could have rolled us out the door. Good thing the parking garage is so close so we could just hop in our car and go home. Time to loosen the belt! ;) In a week where we have had some personal issues, it was so nice to be treated so well and received such a great tasting meal. Hope you get the time to stop in and I hope you get Giovani to answer all your questions and issues. Enjoy!!!

Waitress was a bit brusque. Ok. We all have bad days. But she never checked on us: MIA. I needed a refill. Waited and waited she was nowhere to be found. Busboy delivered our food. We asked for an extra plate and a refill. We never got either. Still no waitress. Had to go to the bar to get the plate and the refill. What really soured me was the bartender/manager's attitude. I told her the service was not good. She grudgingly asked what was wrong. I explained. She responded defensively that they had a busy day. No apology, which really goes a long way. She came back to check on us, but was surly. I would like to think that today was a one off. But the service was a big fail from the very beginning with waitress to the busboy to the manager. This signals a serious owner/management problem. In all fairness, food was still good. But, not so good as to put up with unprofessional service. I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. Had been giving this place a shout out to friends. Won't be doing that anymore.

It's one of those dishes that feels indulgent in the best way. The restaurant has a relaxed, casual feel, and the service was impressively fast without losing any attention to detail. We were greeted by the friendly staff who took good care of us from start to finish. The cozy dining room had a warm island atmosphere. I ordered bacon fried rice topped with two over easy eggs. The portion was huge, easily enough for two or as a second meal for leftovers. There was a generous amount of bacon in the fried rice. The eggs were perfectly cooked and oozed warm yolk over the flavorful fried rice after chopping up the eggs. This was the ultimate comfort food and was so satisfying. My friends ordered kimchi and chashu fried rice. I tried the kimchi fried rice and was blown away by how good it was! I'll be ordering that next time. Overall, Gardena Bowl Coffee Shop was awesome! So expect a wait to enter Sunday morning. Line moves quickly with 3 cashiers. Found a table, placed our number, got our self serve water & coffee. My iced special coffee drink was delivered. For the volume of people being served, it's pretty efficient. Our table ordered: 1) egg & cheese burrito. Very good. Average size. Not a jumbo as a Mexican restaurant might serve. 2) avocado toast with a poached egg. Nice entree. Again with the 2-1/2 to 3" slice of whole wheat black sesame toast. She's not a crust girl, but ate the inside portion. Excellent bread with ample avocado. Egg cooked as ordered. 3) potato hash with a poached egg. My son devoured & said it was really good. 4) prosciutto burrata cheese melt with side spinach salad. Great little sandwich. I little greasy since it was maybe panini pressed. Salad was dressed in an o/v dressing. Could have been punched up a bit with S&P. Son's gf didn't eat the basil & micro green garnish on the avo toast. Asked whether I could have it. Which I sliced up and added to side salad. A pro move cuz it was really kind of oily & one note. Yes, I understand it's a freebie side for a sandwich. The herbs added a lot to flavor this salad. Valet parking is $10 or street parking/near by grocery store lot. Upscale decor with brass accents. Read many low star ratings. Some may be completely legit. Except for one who complained about a $2 charge for an extra house made aioli/marinara sauce. Look...even fast food places charge for extra sauces. Yes maybe 10 yrs ago it might have been free. However, running a restaurant/large food service operations costs A LOT of money. Money for ingredients that are delivered in trucks who are paying more than $8/gal for diesel. Ingredients/supplies that hopefully all come from the US. If not it's extra tariff prices. Thanks to minimum wage increases even fast food workers make $20/hr. Also a smaller pool of workers thanks to ICE. If you're going to complain about restaurant pricing, stay home and cook. Cuz if someone else is doing it for you, it costs.

Alright, it took me a second to gather my thoughts, but here it is…read more I came to Soul Food Shack with my expectations set squarely on the food. I was only in Cali for a short while, and this spot happened to be about 15 min down the street from where I was staying. Perfect location, and I was curious to see how Cali does soul food. From the first bite, it hit me Emotionally triggered as I was transported straight back to my childhood. It felt like I was sitting at the kitchen table in New Orleans, eating my nanny's candied yams, greens, macaroni, and fried chicken. The flavors had that deep, home-cooked love, that is not taken for granted or lost on me, so hats off to the cook! That kind of food doesn't just fill you up; it connects you,and to top it off, the drinks? Man, they serve that real deal kol-aid. The kind I used to drink as a kid. As I was eating, I started thinking about how food ties us to previous & future generations. It's wild how dishes once considered scraps i.e: greens, yams, cornbread, oxtails, are now sought out in restaurants just like this one. These meals are more than just food; they're stories of survival, resilience, and community. But I digress, I know y'all didn't come here for a history lesson in Black culture, so I'll leave it at that. Now, onto the standouts. The mac and cheese and yams? Easily the stars of the plate. I like my yams runny and solid, because I love mixing it with the cornbread. Sweet, savory, soft--that combo hits every time. The macaroni? Seasoned perfectly. Creamy, rich, and not bland like you sometimes get at other spots . That's rare, and I don't take it for granted. Overall, Soul Food Shack gave me more than just a good meal, it gave me a taste of home, miles away from where I grew up. If you're ever in Inglewood and need some food that feeds more than just your stomach, pull up, tap in, eat up.
