I like king Mullen very much. The price is right and the products that I've purchased there have been fresh. I was delighted with the produce there the blueberries, strawberries, apples, bananas, carrots, celery, or very fresh and perfect for family, snacking. Deli staff is rude. Every time I travel and go to a real supermarket it's depressing to have to shop at King Kullen when I return.

We purchased mussels at 4 pm on New Years Eve. When we were cleaning them ALL were open so hence inedible! I went to the store at 8:15 am today and was told that customer service was not open. Living out east for most of my summers this has been a staple supermarket for many many years. Primal/central location is optimal and there is a huge selection. The only downfall are its prices, definitely on the more expensive side so we have been going to the local stop and shop whenever we can. I have never had a negative experience here until 2 days ago...I was asking one of the workers for help on finding a specific type of steak I was looking for and he rudely dismissed me hastily telling me to go talk to the "meat guy". I walked back over to the meat department and no one was there so I tried asking someone at the deli to help me and he was of no help either telling me that someone has to be over there when I clearly explained how no one was. I completed the rest of my shopping and returned back to the meat section about 10-15 minutes later and thankfully someone was there this time. He was very polite and helped me within seconds. Just personally it is not worth the higher prices when we prefer to do our fresh produce/meat/fish shopping at local farm stands and our more 'supermarkety' shopping can be done elsewhere. read more

This store is a bit depressing if you've been spoiled with amazing fresh produce and fair prices. For example, I've paid $2 more here for the same bread that I buy in Brooklyn. It doesn't seem like much, but it certainly adds up. The staff range from very surly to sweet. But it's decent if you need to do a limited shop to fill in on a few items. I recently bought a beautiful batch of (conventional) dandelion greens here. The deli counter is decent and the supplement prices are very reasonable. I sometimes find it a bit confusing to navigate the store. The aisles are wide and it's clean. I like that you can recycle bottles and plastic bags here. There are a few things that they could easy improve on, but with a captive audience, they don't seem interested. read more

One of the worst experiences I have ever had in a grocery store. I greeted the cashier, she said nothing. I'm glad I watched the register because she made so many mistakes. Close to $30 more. King Cullen is a mini-chain of supermarkets on Long Island and is interestingly recognized by the Smithsonian as America's first supermarket. I love the wide aisles and lack of crowds, fully stocked shelves and decent prices, particularly for this expensive area. My group was able to stock up on all our grocery needs for a weekend stay in the area without breaking the bank. What was really frustrating about shopping here is that self check out is the only option right now, and this wouldn't be a big problem if the check out machines weren't such a huge pain to use. Everything needed to be placed on a scale and had to match the weight of the product as it's been entered into their system, and the margin for human error is high. Everytime you run into a slight error you need a manager to come down to your machine and scan their ID card in order to move onto the next step. I observed pretty much every person at a self checkout machine running into errors and looking up to search for a manager to come over to get them into the next step, and the one manager seemed completely exasperated and felt no sense of urgency to help everyone. I don't really put the blame on this one person, since taking their time is probably one of the only ways to stay sane in this job, but the supermarket should probably hire some cashiers. This self checkout process isn't practical at all, especially for us since we were purchasing well over 100 items. If they had more staff on hand to help with checkout, this would make it a perfectly serviceable supermarket. read more

Update: 8/15/23 OK why was I not surprised when after purchasing a "homemade" chicken pot pie from King Kullen, I discovered a live German roach in the wrapped packaging after opening it? Needless to say the whole pie went immediately into the garbage. Is this going to be a recurring problem? Apparently yes. read more

Go down the road to Citarella for the fish (top quality and fair prices on seafood there), but come here for everything else. read more

Store is huge and offers great selection. The positives stop there. The employees are poorly managed. The cashiers spend way too much time talking to each other rather than focusing on the customer. I love this supermarket, especially since they fired my ex-husband from working in the butcher section. They have an amazing selection of all food needs. The woman working at the self checkout is so sweet and I love her. My little Suzie loves all of the probiotic yogurts to help prevent a bowel disaster after taking her medication daily. My son Ricky loves to share the beef jerky with his friends at his baseball games. The store is massive and the chances of you not finding what you're looking for is low. I love how they have linoleum tiles instead of turf on the ground unlike the other supermarkets in the area. A great memory from this store is when years ago my cutie little Suzie was hiding under the watermelons in the produce section. I asked Ricky where she was and he ignored me because he was on his Nintendo that my ex-husband got him for his birthday. It took us ages to find her because my husband Jimbo refuses to come to this store. Suzie is so silly! I also love how they have dry cleaners in the front, a healthy isle, and an isle with things like shampoo, body wash, etc. Overall an excellent one stop shop for all of your food! read more

The most expensive supermarket I've ever been in. Everything is designed for maximum profit from the prices to the layout to the self-checkout to the underpaid staff kept part-time to avoid having to give them benefits. Shelves are stocked by distributors - not staff - with the result that the same stuff can be in three or four different locations in the store. The deli has been the source of more than one food poisoning (google it). When they opened they undercut the prices of every local market. When they all went out of business KK jacked up the prices. This is now the single most profitable store in the entire chain. Go to Riverhead and see how much lower the prices are in the KK there. Even the Hamptons gourmet markets are cheaper. read more

I go to this King Kullen a few times a week to stock up on juice and meat. It's a large store with a wide product selection. The milk area sometimes carries the stench of mud and horse feces, but it smelled decent during my last several visits. Perhaps the offender moved on to greener pastures. The staff there is decent, though some people there can be a bit cold and zombie-like. As far as self-checkout efficiency goes, this King Kullen seems to have the winning formula: functional machines. I believe there are six self-checkout registers and each of them always seems to be in operation when I'm there. I appreciate King Kullen's effort to reduce plastic waste by switching to paper bags, but I've never been more miserable carrying my groceries than I am now. The bags don't have handles, so they can be difficult to hold. They also rip very easily, so you really have to plan out how you're going to bag your groceries or else you'll be kicking them along in the parking lot (though I suppose you could just use a cart). read more

Wish they had more local produce and much more organic foods. The online ordering is poor. They give you dates that are close to being expired. Brown lettuce, potatoes you would never pick up yourself, etc. etc. etc.... They must tell the online staff to push the older products out the door with the online shoppers. Sad. There are people that can not do their own shopping. The prices were once fair but now you pay a kings ransom. I love many of the staff members but don't care for the poor quality. In terms of overall size and strength, this is your best option for a full grocery haul in the Hamptons. Occupying the spot where the old drive-in used to be off Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, King Kullen is open virtually 24 hours and has pretty much everything under the sun. The layout is somewhat awkward, at least in part, as one end of the store curves back into a drinks section, but somehow throws off the helpful monotony of having one lane after one lane, all the same length. It would be fairly unusual to not find something in this grocery store. They have a large organic section for both regular food and fruits and vegetables, as well as countless rows of things you don't really need, but come in handy when out here for a week or longer. There are a lot of other smaller supermarkets in the Hamptons, but none have anywhere close to this selection and hours. You can be sure that you will not have to visit another place to finish off your shopping extravaganza. The store is always clean, the staff is helpful and they are one of the only supermarkets that consistently stocks the Popsicle mini-popsicles so they are golden in my book forever. read more

We ordered baby back ribs,bbq chickens and salads for a party at our house in East Hampton. Food was piping hot,packaged great for transport and so delicious.We picked up some packages of corn muffins at bakery too. Our friends and family couldn't believe we bought the food at King Kullen and not at some more costly trendy Hampton BBQ restaurant! We loved their reactions. One other thing...we vacation in Cabo Mexico and once ate in BB Chicken place that provided disposable rubber gloves to patrons..made it less messy to pick up ribs,chicken and corn on cob. We picked up good supply of disposable gloves at dollar store and placed in basket with utensils. Our guests started laughing and having fun before they even tasted the great food. Then, I moved to Eastern Long Island. King Kullen in Bridgehampton is such a great supermarket experience. Every time! Always clean, neat, well stocked. Prices are fair. Great supermarket, has everything GREAT beer selection, pretty good bakery, everything is fresh and clean (so fresh and so clean, clean). Every cold-cut ever, Awesome steaks. Good seafood. There's even a big health food /organic section for all you vegans and other weirdos. I heard the sushi chef is famous in some way or other. He does make some great stuff. The soups are good, too. And then, everything else, which is always stocked, always presented well and clearly. And the prices are right. Great produce. Really great. Theres a couple good farmstands up the road, though, that are so worth a second stop. There's a big foriegn food aisle, every ice cream you could want, rice, jeez, i dont even know what else. These prices are absurd. $7.99 for organic butter?! Can buy for $2.99 at Trader Joe's. And right before Thanksgiving, surely not a coincidence. Insane price-gouging. Unethical, greedy. Ridiculous. Avoid this store at all costs. Floral department is overpriced and run by an outside vendor -- quality of flowers is very poor. Same with prepared veggie platters and fruit trays. If I had known how miserable the selection was here, I would have gone to Stop and Shop in Southampton or King Kullen in Hampton Bays. Too bad this store is such a waste-- it would be nice to have a local store to pick up items quickly. 24 hours!!!!! The only place in the Hamptons to get late night snacks or groceries. King Kullen never fails me. They have a vast selection of fresh, organic, kosher, and international foods. I didn't plan on writing a review, but having been an all year customer for 12 years I could not let the negative posts go unanswered. - "Part time "slave" labor" - sure, there are short timers during the summer, has anybody noticed that there is a difference in activity levels here between July and January? I know personally many employees who have been here for years, and just like the rest of us - some are happy, and some not. - "More expensive than Trader Joes" - Duh!, where is the nearest Trader Joes's? The prices are very competitive for the area. I can tell the difference when my wife returns from Citarella's. - Plusses - the hours, the butcher, the deli, the seafood monger, the beer selection, the snacks, ice creams, the bakery, the produce, OJ&juice selection and the location. And they do a good job of having an adequate number of cashiers on hand during rush periods. Online shopping. Did I mention the hours? - Minusses - They could diversify their selections in some areas, rather than bulking up on the most popular brands/flavors. And sure, they could be cheaper. Never could figure out how a store, situated among farms with abundantly fresh produce and vegetable, and nearby the most delicious, fresh caught fish in America, can fail so miserably in those areas. Chinese farm raised Tilapia.....REALLY??? Why not just strip naked and sit next to a nuclear power plant for a week. Vietnamese, So American, previously frozen tuna, Just a horror! I called the head of the corporate fish area to complain about that Chinese Tilapia -- (just google it, you'll scream) -- he said he feeds it to his kids. God help them when they grow that second head. High prices, staff from the set of Walking Dead.....just an unpleasant experience -- every time. Great selection and much larger than all the other supermarkets in the area. I often use their online ordering service and have the groceries delivered for a small fee. The staff that handles their online ordering are AMAZING. They will call you to confirm substitutions and they always pick the best produce (sometimes pick better produce than i would!).
