Rounding up my stays in the Hamptons, it'll be a visit to this old-fashion soda shop from now on. Just like being on a 50s movie set with tables, booths, and, barstools. Welcoming they were to this first timer and service was great the rest of the time. So I went to the children's museum out in Bridgehampton and saw this place along the way. It looked super cute and had decent reviews for ice cream. My daughter and I stopped in for lunch - it's cash only. I was going to order a quesadilla but it only came with chicken and cheese, nothing else, and was $18+. I guess you're in the Hamptons, so it's expensive, but I just couldn't see myself spending this kind of money on a quesadilla. We ordered 1 scoop of chocolate with m&ms for my daughter and I got a 2 scoop with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry. My bill was $28. I find this insane. I get that we're in the Hamptons but the ice cream wasn't even that good, mediocre at best. The place also had a horrible smell to it. Old, dingy and smelled like a public restroom. read more

Comfortable booth, seated promptly, and friendly greeting from Mauricio, a fantastic server (see photo) -- who made excellent recommendations. Souvlaki in a pita was fresh tasting, loaded with tender, well-seasoned chicken, and a greek salad with soft feta cheese. I also had lentil soup, served at a proper (hot) temperature. Yum! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Coffee chip ice cream cone for desert was homemade deliciousness in a sugar cone. And, one of my friends had a root beer float that looked fantastic, and he really enjoyed it. Wonderful lunch. Ignore the grumpy and negative reviews. From the time I walked into the restaurant I felt at home. Lovely waitress with a wonderful smile, and great attitude. It was pretty good. I had peppermint and it was very tasty, though a little icy. I'll cut them some slack since it's not only the off-season, but middle of winter too. It's an adorable place, olde-timey with a soda fountain counter and charming walk-up window. I'll definitely come back when the weather is warmer and try again. read more

I have fond memories of this place as a child. The pistachio ice cream is to die for! My favorite memory is when my father sat me down at the age of 7 and promised me that I would one day become CEO of the family company. Came here on a very cold day right after getting off the bus - it's super convenient across the street from the BH drop off location. I always thought this spot was only ice cream so was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have a full diner menu with a lot of Mediterranean options. I opted for the chicken salad over lettuce, my husband got the pastrami and eggs and my parents for the beef gyro. Mine was a very large portion so I took home leftovers but it definitely hit the spot. My husbands pastrami and eggs was a surprisingly small portion compared to the rest of our plates but he said it was delicious nonetheless. Next time I want to get the gyro! Cute little place with lots of doors. Inside is classically painted white and blue. Has a retro/nautical vibe. I had the Manhattan clam chowder which was ok and then lobster over a tossed salad. The salad was bland so I added hot sauce but the lobster was very delicious. I highly recommend! We remembered that our first experience at Candy Kitchen wasn't bad (ages ago, we brought the parents out to Montauk and we saw Ina Garten eating here, pretty neato), so we gave it another go. 11:30ish on a Sunday and there was no wait for a party of two; we were seated in the back room, which seems to be where they seat everyone that has kids. So, beware if you don't like kids. (Didn't bother us, just throwing it out there in case you want a more quiet dining experience..) Service was okay- waitress was friendly, and got to us fast initially, but once our food was dropped we never saw her again until we asked for our check. We both opted for lunch- Picky Pete got chicken souvlaki with pita and greek salad. The chicken was "just okay" (no further details, I asked..) but he reported that the salad dressing was fantastic. I agree that it was because since he's picky, I got to eat all the olives off of his salad. I got a chicken salad sammich and a cup of chicken orzo soup. The soup was homey. And by homey, I mean bland. It was fixed by saltines and salt. But it was warm and I was hungry. My sandwich though was good- adequate pile of chicken salad, nicely toasted bread, and they even put mayo on the toast to keep it moist- nice move. Served with a pickle. That's all she wrote. A cute classic diner establishment that we stumbled upon an afternoon adventure. We enjoyed our ritual of afternoon ice cream, ordering the chocolate for my wife. I couldn't decide between the peach or blueberry, so they said I should just put both together! Brilliant :) Wonderful staff, makes the place warm and inviting. Tasty ice cream in a nice throwback stools-at-the-counter joint. For some reason the chocolate tasted underwhelming and not homemade (too sweet/processed), but the others tasted more creamy and authentic to their original fruit. Damn their cute old fashioned signage! Yeah, we too, fell for that nostalgic Main-Street-Disneyland-ice-cream-parlor-look. This was such a disappointment all around from their weird, awkward customer service (if you wanna call it that), to the dirty, unkept condition of the interior, to the false promise of it being a "candy kitchen" as advertised in the window aaaaaaaand of their terrible "homemade" ice cream. First off, being old school is awesome, but that doesn't mean you don't have to clean or dust, EVER. It's seriously gross inside. I didn't want to touch or sit on anything since it looks like the last time anyone had taken a mop or rag to the place was during prohibition. Second, there was no candy being made or any traces of a kitchen producing any such thing. I was expecting a white-haired old lady in a bonnet and ruffle apron stretching taffy or rolling truffles or heck, dipping strawberries in chocolate. But no. Their candy selection was in the form of boxed and packaged name brands like m&ms, skittles, and wrigleys spearmint gum. Was this a joke?! Not only was that a total tease, but the store-bought selection was super sh-tty. This place makes 7-11 look like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Thirdly... The ice cream situation. Not happening folks. Maybe it's because we came during the slow season before summer officially hit, but the ice cream had not been freshly made... In probably months! Now, I'm not unreasonable... I understand that if business is slow, it doesn't make sense to make new batches of multiple flavors daily when it's barely selling. I get it, nor do I expect it. But when the ice cream literally has ice on it and is freezer burned, it should not be given to customers or any human for that matter. They take this 'old' vibe a little too seriously. It's unfortunate, considering their long list of flavors is pretty exciting. I got banana and once I got past the fuzzy icy parts, the flavor was actually good. The customer service was also a joke. Totally unprofessional, half-ass, and they could not care less. Two of the employees sat at the countertop, shooting the breeze and we're not in any sort of uniform... Did they even work here? I was skeptical giving the guy my cash when he finally got off his lazy butt to scoop our garbage and ring us up. If I worked in a ice cream/ candy shop, I would be high off sugar and super friendly and jolly. Then again, this place isn't exactly either of those things. Bottom line- this place is an old ass, dirty diner (I would NEVER order food here!) with second rate employees and disappointing ice cream. Oh yeah, and no candy! Boo! read more

Loved this place! Step back in time and just occasionally look around...I felt like I was going to see Michael J. Fox walk thru the doors, just like he did in "Back to the Future." Our waitress came and immediately set a bad tone as she huffed and puffed about us not knowing what we wanted to order yet although we asked for another minute. She came back and gave us some more hostilities because we were deciding between what kind of pancakes we wanted to share. It then devolved into never seeing her for refills because we simply pointed out her behavior. We live in the city, we get it --- my wife is a chef and certainly understands the difficulties.
