After seeing another bakery claim to be the best in town my husband and I had to go on YELP to fact-check them, I can't say I'd agree after reading some of the reviews, but then we found Levain Bakery. It was as if the sky had parted, shining bright light on this excellent bakery. Okay, a little dramatic, but I would definitely say this place is an absolute gem. The residents have been blessed to have such a great bakery so close to them. They have so many wonderful desserts to try, we ended up ordering the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie, Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie, Blueberry Muffin, Sour Cream Coffee Cake, and our favorite the Lemon Pound Cake. As soon as we got to the car we started tasting each item and were impressed by how fresh everything was, especially towards the end of the day. The Cookies are best served warm, soft on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The Muffin was light and not overly sweet, while the Pound Cakes were the best we've had in some time--not dense at all. If you're in the area definitely stop by. The staff were wonderful and incredibly kind. They really made our visit here memorable. I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning in the future. read more

The best cookies you'll ever have. I had the two chip chocolate chip cookie. The chocolate was still gooey inside! I brought a box back to the West Coast and they kept so well. My son was away for a week and so his rocky road cookie was a week old and he said it was the best cookies you'll ever he's ever had. The chocolate cookies have a brownie-like feel. They're just amazing. They're quite heavy, so you can cut them and they'd be a nice size. I wouldn't get one a person. read more

Made the drive for one of their famous cookies. It was a little hidden but for reference it's close to the Home Goods. Parking is behind the building. The chocolate chip cookie was so good I forgot to take a pic before obliterating it. I ordered a vanilla latte but they said that they don't carry any flavors. It was fine but nothing like the NYC shop. I went to the city a few months ago and tried Levain. Basically, it was life changing. When I found out they had a store in Wainscott, I knew I had to try it the next time I was out there (which happened to be this past weekend). It's tucked in a small area of other stores and it's pretty easy to miss as it's not facing the street. I was worried the store would be just as crowded as the city but it wasn't. My husband and I were the only two patrons in the store. I guess I lucked out at the NYC shop when my two chip chocolate chip cookie was handed to me warm. This wasn't the case here but I was still excited to try when I got home. A bonus: there was one banana bread slice cut too small so they offered it to us for free which was very nice. My husband said the banana bread was pretty good but not like a traditional banana bread. It had raisins inside. When we got home and heated up our cookies, they were pretty good. Again, not like the original. Filling for sure - you probably can only have a half without feeling sick. Still, I would get Levain the next time I'm out East. read more

Their cookies are famous for a reason! They are just ridiculously delicious. It seriously takes me about five sittings to finish just one of the cookies. I stopped in here on a Sunday morning on my way to the ferry. They were busy, but had plenty of employees working to help keep the line moving. My only complaint is I wish the cookies were showcased a bit differently. I quickly ordered from the cookie plate and didn't even seen the other cookies scattered around it in the case. My favorite cookie was definitely the chocolate peanut butter. It was just spot on. None of the cookies disappointed though! I also tried the chocolate chip and double chocolate. Having descended upon the NYC (UWS) location of Levain Bakery, wow - 10 years ago already, I was very excited to learn that they opened up a location in the Hamptons (in Wainscott). Unfortunately, last year when we went, they weren't open on the day we were there. This year, when I knew we'd be returning to the Hamptons, I made sure to go on a day when Levain would be open. (Because it's off-season, they are only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.) Fine, we went on a Friday !! Woo-hoo !! We bought 4 chocolate chip cookies - minus the nuts, 2 peanut butter chocolate cookies, 1 slice banana bread with chocolate chips (they didn't have this 10 years ago), and 1 caramel coconut chocolate chip cookie. I singlehandedly polished off the banana bread, and I had a bite of one chocolate chip cookie. Unfortunately, I let it sit out for too many days before getting back to eating the cookie, so I ended up throwing it out. (Shame on me!) The other cookies, I gave to my daughter and son-in-law, so I never got to try them. These are decadent cookies and very rich ! I just wish I didn't waste my cookie. Waiting all these years to return and then not finishing the one cookie I had. Dumb! At least I thoroughly enjoyed the banana bread. Well, I now know that they have a nationwide ordering system in place, which is dangerous news to have. read more

Every year my brother sends me a huge box of cookies from Levain Bakery. Maybe these cookies are good if you buy them right after they have been baked, but they are just horrible when sent through mail order. And, they are unnecessarily HUGE. I honestly can't imagine any adult who would want to have a cookie this big, but again, maybe they are so good when fresh that you can't get enough. But the real problem I have is that they just aren't good. They are ALL incredibly hard and dry; so very unpleasant when you bite into them. Inedible, really. Are the flavors ok? Hard to tell because the texture is so awful. I can't bring myself to tell my brother how bad they are, but this year's box just arrived, and I am reminded of how bad they are. They are probably very expensive. Please listen to me and don't spend your money on sending a box of these to anyone. read more

I finally got my hands on these delicious little well errr maybe not so little treats. Man oh man. Upon walking into the shop I was surprised to see I was the only one in the shop but that didn't deter me. The girl was super helpful, kind and patient while I made my selections of treats to bring home. The ambiance is your typical bakery where I could see the workers working with the ovens and the large mixer. I will definitely be back for more goodies. 5 stars for Levain! read more

The Levain Bakery in East Hampton is one of the best locations because of its gluten and dairy-free options. My family ordered a bunch of regular chocolate chip cookies, gluten and dairy-free chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate bread. I honestly didn't know what to expect going in before I tried the dairy and gluten-free chocolate chip cookie but it was amazing. It was crispy and crunchy on the outside but almost like eating cookie dough on the inside. I have no idea how they pulled that off. This bakery has a City vibe to it. Their original location is in the Upper West Side, where I was a patron back in the '90s. I was surprised to hear disco music so early in the morning (around 9:30). The speaker was blasting "Hotline" by The Sylvester. It made me want to dance, right there on the bakery floor. Occasionally I see the owners baking, especially during the off season. Most people come to buy cookies. I don't, but if I had to, I would buy the Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie and have it with a tall glass of milk to wash down all that chocolate. My favorite pastry here is the oatmeal raisin scone, especially when it is warm. They also sell a lemon cake that is a hit at office parties. Their crispy flatbread pizzas are delicious. My favorite is the grape tomato and Parmesan. Coffee drinks and Valrhona Hot Chocolate also sell well although I see most people buying baked goods. Apple Pay is a frequent payment method. No longer a seasonal business, for the past two years their Wainscott location has been open all-year 'round. Levain Bakery has eight locations, including this one. Their cookies are also sold in grocery stores including Whole Foods Market. There are benches outside where customers can sit and eat. There is no where to sit inside because of space limitations. There is ample parking in a private lot, where I usually sit and eat my scone. Staff is friendly and professional. I put this bakery in my Yelp Long Island "Delicious Desserts" collection. Levain is rocking this ice cold day in this quaisi empty off season town. People are coming in and out with their crusty French baguettes. Their cinnamon and chocolate chip brioches And of course. Can't leave without the iconic NYC chocolate chip walnut cookies the size of scones. Yum yum and more yum. Clean store. Staff wearing masks. Wished for gloves. My husband and I are big fans of Levain Bakery. They serve one of the best cookies in the world. We visited the neighborhood for The Seafood Shop which was recommended by my friends for its fresh and various ingredients. We were surprised and excited to find one of the Levain Bakeries there. The smell was amazingly great from outside. There was a line on a Sunday afternoon but the wait wasn't bad since everyone kept social distance. During the summer, no matter what time is super busy. But during the fall it's not so bad. The quality is consistent with all their other locations. The service is always friendly and helpful. Price is fair for quality and size of the cookies. You can't go wrong buying one of each flavor. Im not a fan of oatmeal raisin, in general, but even their oatmeal raisin is exceptional. The chocolate chip walnut is my favorite and always a classic. The peanut butter chocolate chip is my husband's favorite. They do not skimp on chocolate/peanut butter chips at all! I did try them and now I'm completely obsessed; they're the only cookies I'll eat. They have a super convenient location with ample parking in the back and I've never had to wait on line which is a plus. They're always rolling out fresh cookies and the smell will make you want to buy out the store. I've tasted a few different kinds of their cookies and I've honestly never tasted anything more delicious. I can't help myself when I come here I always leave with two boxes of cookies. Small cute bakery, friendly/helpful service, pricey but freshly made baked goods. This bakery was suggested to me by multiple people and for good reason. Located in a little shopping area, you could spend quite some time in this section of Wainscott just looking around. There should be plenty of parking in the morning. A few benches are outside if you want to sit, relax & enjoy your goodies. The service was phenomenal. I was helped immediately and the ladies behind the counter were so nice. The cookies were absolutely amazing and melted in my mouth. They were large but $4 is still a bit on the pricey side. I also decided on getting a yummy pizza...more like a flatbread. One day my girlfriend will read this review and probably yell at me....Hopefully that's in the far off distant future. We had the opportunity to visit the Upper West Side location, but due to the line of loyal cookie lovers, my girlfriend chose not to wait only to read later on about how these cookies are THE cookies to try. Yesterday afternoon, she was given a reprieve as we decided to head out east. Unbeknownst to us of more than one Levain location, I happened to see a small sign while driving down Montauk Highway that had us wondering. I taught my GF well as she jumped onto Yelp to find out and lo and behold, it was another Levain! We turned around and prepared our stomachs for some cookie love. After the line in the city, I expected a similar ordeal here, but I suppose a Tuesday afternoon in late August was good timing as there was no line at all. The bakery isn't big and somewhat built around/connected to other stores in the area it inhabits. With no line, we entered into a world of sweet smells. Trays of cookies to the left of us with plenty of baking taking place. Four cookie options were laid out in front, and the employee was friendly in giving us a moment to choose (she could tell we were dying to try them, but we needed to make a decision first). In the end we went with three out of the four (sorry oatmeal): chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate peanut butter, and dark chocolate chocolate chip. Once in the car we dove into the walnut option and were amazed. We didn't speak. We just chewed. I think one of us made a noise of elation. The cookie was so fresh and gooey, with chocolate chips that were semi-melted and huge pieces of walnuts. It was without a doubt, one of the best cookies I have ever tried. Somehow we saved a piece of that and the other two for later on. After a big dinner, the cookies almost didn't seem like an option to eat at that time, but I took some pieces of each home and sampled the dark chocolate ones this evening. Even a day later they were still extremely soft. The dark chocolate chocolate chip was a chocolate lover's paradise in cookie form with plenty of tasty chocolate filled within each bite. As for the peanut butter one, it was probably my favorite. Chocolaty goodness with a powerful punch of PB in throughout. Overall, I know that whether I go east or west, if I'm in the mood for a cookie (or maybe for whenever I am!), this will be the spot as Levain Bakery is a cookie God amongst cookie men. read more

I have been to several Levain locations numerous times and their chocolate chocolate chip cookie from this location was just as delicious as always. I also tried the cinnamon brioche roll which was really light and a good contrast to the cookie, but also really tasty. However, the latte that I got today from this location was really subpar. It tasted extremely burnt and I was not able to drink it past the first sip. It was a shame that this is not a place where I can also get coffee. I still gave it 5 stars because the cookies, which are really the stars of the show, are very good. read more

I'm biased to the gluten-free walnut chocolate chip cookie because I'm gluten intolerant yet you can't go wrong with any item here.
