Fried Prawns, with Sweet & Sour sauce added
Steve D.

King Kong BBQ Restaurant serves up authentic Chinese foods that are delicious and in good portions. Strong points include: good food, good portions, and they do their own deliveries. I can't find anything negative to say about my experience. On a Saturday, I ordered Wor Won Ton Soup, Fried Prawns, and Mu Shu Pork. Good Food, Grade (5/5). I'm 3rd Generation ABC, and this food is the way traditional chinese food is supposed to taste! The Wor Won Soup was excellent with plump dumplings, bok choy, bbq pork strips and tender chicken. The Fried Prawns were plump and moist. The Mu Shu Pork was a generous serving, seasoned well and not salty. Another key point is the prices are reasonable. The Wor Won Ton Soup is under $10, and that container was packed. I scheduled this delivery thru GrubHub. Since the restaurant does it's own delivery, there's no extra delivery fees. I setup my delivery for 4pm, and it arrived early. Good food, and I will order again!

Salt and pepper chicken with steam rice

Got an order of Salt and pepper chicken with steam rice which came with one egg roll. Upon opening my bag, I was given a great disappointment because there was no sauce and no utensils. How was I going to eat this meal? Luckily there was a spare plastic fork lying on my work desk. Now it's time to chow down on the meal. The presentation of the plate looks ok and those salt and pepper chickens are making me hungry just from looking at them. Before even trying the rice, I grabbed the egg roll and gave it a bite. The egg roll was all mushy and had no crunch almost like it had been sitting for a very long time waiting in the microwave. Let's talk about the chicken. The peppers were not spicy, chicken was flavorless and dry, and the outer skin was not crunchy, but rather hard to bite down. The hardness of the chicken is either fried for too long or the chicken had to be refried. After talking for a while on the main dish, let's move on to the rice. The rice was indeed warm, but there were some undercooked rice mixed in making the rice inedible due to its hardness. The meal wasn't a perfect experience, but some points have to give to the quantity of the plate because the portion will leave your belly full. Make sure to have a bottle of water next to you and some sauce if you have plans to order this dish.

4. Crab Wonton, okay.

3.5 stars; The salt and pepper pork chops are bomb though!! Crab rangoons are alright. Lacked in fillings and lacked a bit on taste, however, it's not that bad. I didn't mind it but it's not on the top of my list. Mayo shrimp had little batter and the sauce was really light in flavor, I couldn't even taste the mayo much. I wasn't a fan of their candied walnut. But what sauce they had on their was decent. I added sriracha and it was good. (I never usually do that to my mayo shrimp though.) The fried crispy noodles was meh, I didn't like the beef they used. The best part of this dish was the bok choy to me. Overall, I would definitely order from here again because I'm a huge fan of their salt and pepper pork chops. The mayo shrimp is okay, and I'll probably try some other stuff out. But just know, this place is mediocre but that salt and pepper though. So flavorful, garlicky, goodness.

Looks great, but it's laced with poison.

Ordered takeout again. It had been one of the more reliable Chinese eateries when I was too lazy to cook (which condition or affliction seems to occur more frequently). Tried some new dishes. The spicy chicken wings stood out, and I don't usually partake (but the fam loves wings so. . . .). Other dishes okay. I had requested low salt/sodium as to every dish. As to most dishes, these were not salty and we could actually taste the food. But, the Mongolian beef was a salt bomb. Impossible to eat. And it was the one dish I ordered for me (oh, woe is me). Not sure why so many restaurants are making dishes that are toxically loaded with sodium now, but this was ridiculous. Could not even feed it to our dog, it was so salty. Reached out to restaurant and to Uber Eats. Both elected not to respond. (Not sure what I wanted, but a refund or future credit -- or perhaps a promise to pay for a year's worth of blood pressure medicine -- would have been okay as I received something I specifically stated when ordering I did not want, salty food). They both acknowledged my message, but then nothing. Over-salted food is more commonplace. I suspect that people just do not know how to cook and/or they are hiding bad (rotten) meat/ingredients with all that salt. So, while the portions from King Kong BBQ are good, the toxically salty Mongolian beef sucks. Literally, it sucks all the water out of whoever eats it. Bad customer service. Toxic food. Lucky to get two stars. To see how one country has attempted to tackle the health risks associated with too much sodium (salt), please check out this article. https://www.coha.org/the-salt-assault-uruguay-tackles-its-obesity-issue/ -- Workingman's gourmand

I love this place and I'm so sad that I'm moving out of Oakland!! The first time I tried this place, I knew I wouldn't have to try any other because they're just that good. They pack each dish individually in a plastic bag so nothing spills out. The food is delicious and the portions are pretty generous so I get to enjoy it for another meal! *I've only ordered from this place during the pandemic and via Uber eats so I can't comment on the physical establishment, service etc.

Nothing inside of the crab wontons
Joey M.

I ordered crab wontons from this place and it was the worst I've had. All that came in the order were completely hollow on the inside. It was just a pocket of air. They were also about $9. It was just really disappointing paying $9 for fried wonton wrappers

My bf ended up sharing his order with me because I didn't enjoy my Cioppino ($42.) The seafood was bland, all tasting very much alike, & the broth didn't give off that complex spicy tang that my favorite cioppinos possess. My table started with an appetizer of Red Chili Garlic Shrimp ($18) -- from the description, we were expecting a dry, possibly sautéed preparation & were disappointed that the shrimp were sitting in a watery broth. Though I was letdown by my picks here, I know my group enjoyed theirs. We were treated very well by our waiter & by the host who gave us a beautiful window seat; we enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the bay. Not a restaurant I'd regularly return to, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it (with a few caveats, of course) to someone looking for a sit-down Pier 39 meal.

It was hard to flag them down even though it's not a big space. The clam chowder wasn't very hot. It was cool at the top and a bit warm at the bottom. The white rice just wasn't soft at all :/ The combo was alright. No complaints on the quality of the seafood.

Service was fairly attentive - there was only one slight hiccup with one entree not coming out until around 5 minutes after everyone's dish so we had to wait. Pretty good selection of signature cocktails. The Liquid Gold was refreshing and not that strong. As for the food, we got the tartare, crab empanada, bungalow Benedict, and the phyllo crusted pork chop. The tartare was fresh and not fishy at all, but was missing some salt. Crab empanada was great. The cilantro avocado puree and aioli complemented the crab well. Eggs Benedict was standard. It was nice that it came with a model bakery English muffin, but nothing stood out. Pork chop was fried very well. Crispy exterior but soft inside. It was a pretty hefty cut as well. I expected more from the taverna fries but it seemed like standard frozen fries. The chimichurri sauce was good but had an aioli texture, which was weird but still good taste wise. To end, the butterscotch budino was fairly light and had a good sweetness. All in all, the lunch was still enjoyable especially with the view. I do wish there was that wow factor in some of the dishes to better match the price.

Date: 3/27/2026 Time: 7:25 PM 68° Cool…read more My male companion asked where I wanted to have dinner this evening. I had a taste for Chilean sea bass. A search on this website resulted in Marica having it on their menu. He booked a 7:30 PM reservation for two. We arrived early. What started out as a not too pleasant experience for us was the attitude of the guy who greeted us when we entered the restaurant. Attitude bordered on rudeness (3 star). We somewhat tolerated it, not knowing what to expect next. The restaurant was filled with diners, and the only available seating was not far from the front door. Oh, the chill was in the air, and my not wearing a sweater and/or light jacket to stay warm had me shivering. I had to brave the element (LOL). Since there was no Chilean sea bass on their daily special menu, it took a little longer for my companion and I to peruse the menu, and decide what entrees we were willing to have. Usually I would order an Arnold Palmer as a beverage; however, this time I decided to be adventurous - reisling peach spritz please - to whet my appetite. My date had the Temescal pilsner. Eats: Grilled salmon arange ginger saffron blanc beurre, roasted potatoes and vegetables. Korean short ribs, honey garlic gochujang marinade, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Our meals were on point and bomb-diggity delicious. The arange ginger saffron was perfect with the carrot. It reminded me of glazed carrots. The green beans were fresh and not overcooked. Ooh, the Korean pork ribs were tender and that sauce was sweet and had a subtle kick of spiciness. (Definitely a perfect complement for the pork ribs.) I have to admit the chef knew how to burn. Food tasted so good that figuratively speaking y'all gotta slap the cook and his mama. Ambiance: Comfy and casual. Despite the dining area is small, still it is a great restaurant for dining on a Friday evening. From my perspective and vivid imagination with the indoor lighting, it exuded a romantic atmosphere. Only in my mind I can hear soft jazz in the background. What convinced me to give Marica a 5 star rating? It was none other than Enriqueta, our waitress. She was pleasant, attentive and so accommodating. The chef lost our order ticket; thus, the wait time for our meal took a bit longer than we anticipated. She came to the rescue and comped us with dessert - chocolate souffle with homemade vanilla ice cream. It certainly was a gesture of kindness to have my date and me smiling from ear to ear. Return visit? Yes, mos def...not the rapper for Chilean sea bass. Enriqueta said I can always call to find out what their daily special is.

They were running a special with a winery, buy a carafe of wine, get a dozen oysters for a $1 each. I mention it because it was a good deal. Unfortunately for me, no alcohol. I still had the oysters though. They served me 1/2 East Coast and 1/2 West Coast. For once, my beloved Miyagis were the bigger oyster. Delicious! Instead of wine, I had a Shirley Temple. They make a good one. For my main, I had the lobster roll. They do it with mayonnaise and celery. It was good, but I prefer my naked with butter. Wish that was an option. I chose to splurge and get the Cesar salad on the side. It was almost delicate, with finely shredded cheese and light dressing. I wish there was more dressing to stand up to the romaine. Maybe a few more croutons, too. For dessert, I tried the creme brulee. It was nice and creamy with lots of fresh fruit on top. I only ate half. Be aware, the serving size is generous. You and a friend could easily share. The space itself is nice. It's modern and bright with jwarm wood and jaz playing in the background. There is seating at the bar, and a few outdoor tables in addition to the main room. I enjoyed my experience. If I had a criticism, it's that I wished for one or two more mains. They really have what I consider a grazing menu. It's not a bad thing, just something to consider. Only go if you love seafood. They have the obligatory burger, but not much else. I give them a solid 3.5. Recommended.
