You can't miss King Dragon's steamed veggie dumplings! They're great hot and fresh, or cold out of the fridge the next day. The sauce they serve with them is pretty meh, but you don't need it. The lo mein is perfect for lazy nights when you want something filling, but not too heavy. I've had the veggie and shrimp versions, and strongly recommend them. I'll point-and-pick random items if I'm not sure exactly what I want, and I've never been disappointed. I've eaten here several times since moving to Indy two years ago, and I've had only one poor experience: They gave me the meat dumplings instead of the veggie ones. read more

My wife and I haven't had the best of luck with Chinese restaurants where you can order by number. Therefore, we were initially reluctant about trying King Dragon based on past experience. We mustered up enough enthusiasm since it was a new experience for us and we were looking for a new Chinese restaurant in the Broad Ripple area. We should have stuck with our initial thought. We proceeded to order and it was explained to us that we could choose from a free soda or egg roll since we ordered more than $15 in food for dinner. We elected to go with the soda which was a great choice considering what proceeded to happen next. My wife opened her can of Coke and proceeded to take a drink. The expression on her face was priceless after her first sip. She had me take a drink to confirm that the soda was bad. It tasted like weak flavored carbonated water with a horrible after taste. She explained to the girl behind the counter that the Coke was bad and would like to replace the soda. The girl needed to consult her father, cooking in the back, if it would be okay to replace the drink. He proceeded to look at the expiration date on the bottom of the can and tell us that expiration date was March 2013 so the soda should be fine. We attempted to explain the soda was bad and we would like to replace the soda with another soda. We kept getting the same response, "the expiration date is March 2013, the Coke is good". The gentleman refused to replace the Coke so thankfully we elected the free soda when choosing between the egg roll and soda earlier. I understand that it is just a soda, however, it was fact that the customer service was nonexistent. I also had the unfortunate experience of have a gnat on my plate of food. I will go under the assumption that the bug landed on my plate while I wasn't looking and wasn't in the food the whole time due to the fact that there were several bugs flying around the restaurant. The food was average at best and there are many other Chinese restaurants with better flavor. As much as I hate to say it, we likely won't be visiting King Dragon again based on our experience. King Dragon is my absolute FAVORITE "cheap Chinese" restaurant in Indy. If you're looking for Americanized classics (fried stuff with sauces and noodles), this is where you want to go. I love the honey chicken, and I'm obsessed with their crab Rangoon. Excellent for sharing! Also, the staff is super friendly, and I believe the business is family owned. My roommate and I probably order takeout from King Dragon at least once every other week. It is our go-to food for nights when we don't want to cook and also really want leftovers. You get a lot for your money, and everything reheats well! Not much of a dining space. I wouldn't recommend it for eating on location. But you can't go wrong with takeout! If you call and order ahead, it rarely takes longer than 15-20 minutes for them to have your food bagged and waiting to be claimed. read more

This is a great place. The food is priced like most other qwik-Chinese spots, doled out generously and tastes the way you want it to. The lunch special is the best bargain, but what separates this place from all others I'm familiar with is that they take credit cards. King Dragon is our neighborhood go-to for Chinese takeout. It's nothing fancy, but doesn't need to be. It is consistently tasty and piping hot when I get it home. We regularly get the cashew chicken and veggie lo mein. The dumplings and crab rangoon are also very good appetizer options. I had been to King Dragon a few times and found it to be great for cheap and greasy Americanized Chinese food. Love the tofu with garlic sauce and the vegetable dumplings. However, I will likely not be back after my most recent visit. Halfway through our dinners, my boyfriend chomped down onto a staple in his bite of sesame chicken! Maybe if we give it some time we can brave it again, but I think it will be a long time before we're comfortable giving them another shot. read more

Hands down, the best Chinese takeout I have gotten in Indy. Which is saying something because I've had quite a few places around the city. I had been on a search for perfect steamed dumplings, and when my friend proposed we get their Chinese place I agreed to try it out and give it a shot. AMAZING! Not only were they an amazing size, but they weren't soggy which I have noticed can be a problem for some other restaurants in the area. And the dumpling sauce is fantastic! The fact that they serve Pad Thai is an added bonus. My only problem with this place is that they don't deliver. Wouldn't be a problem if I drove, but I don't. Boo! I wanted to like this place so much. They even had pad Thai on the menu. However, this place fell so flat for me. I ordered for pickup and they had it ready decently fast and it was hot still even after the drive home. I ordered pad Thai and veggie soup. I know it's a Chinese restaurant and not a Thai one but common... They could at least tried a little. I'm pretty sure they just cooked up some noodles and put then in a a box with a lime. It tasted like there was absolutely no sauce or flavoring. There were some crushed up peanuts on it but they didn't taste like peanuts. They were fluffy with no flavor. It was strange. As for the soup. It had no flavor at all. I liked how the veggies were big but I actually ended up not eating it as throwing it away. I'm sad I could not give this restaurant a better rating but hopefully I can come here again and get a different dish that will change my mind. read more

Excellent food! There are only a few tables inside so I suggest getting carry out. The prices are super low if you factor in how much food they are giving you. I used to live in the broad ripple area and got king dragon 3-4 times per week, the people who own and run the restaurateur may not have excellent English, but they are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. My favorite is the mushroom shrimp, and don't forget the sugar biscuits! Worst. Chinese. Food. Ever. Prices were good, but eating out of a garbage can is free! Hot and sour soup- not hot. Or sour. Orange chicken and general tso's chicken tasted the same- bland. Egg rolls tasted like the cabbage inside was pickled or rotten. I'm not sure if the meat inside the dumplings were even fully cooked. Worst disappointment of all? The pad thai came with no sauce!! So it was just oily noodles! Diz-gusting! This was supposed to be a hangover feast, and let's be honest- nearly anything is good with a hangover, but this was a huge disappointment as well as a waste of money!!! I don't normally write bad reviews for companies but I was so shocked today that I feel it is needed. My fiancé and I ordered dinner from here today...and don't get me wrong the food is good...but today they took rudeness to a new level. Upon arriving home we noticed one of our dishes was missing....no big...so we called to let them know so we could swing back by and get it. The funny thing is we were ok with that...I mean we both were food service managers so we know it happens. So, back to the call, the owner answers and proceeds to tell us we are lying and that she wrote one order down... Even though she had repeated it back correctly...at this point my fiancé starts to get upset and asks why she is arguing? She then said she didn't charge us for two so what is our problem? We were willing to come back despite that and pay but the lady proceeded to be upset with this idea as well. I am shocked and highly disappointed with her complete disregard for a regular take out customer. I will never order from them again based on the fact that their owner is like this. It hurts me that a small business owner would chase away customers like this...we need small business in our communities. I will have to find a new Chinese take out place. :(. King Dragon you should never treat customers like this...it's not hard to admit an accident and find a happy fix for both parties. Shame on you! King Dragon is one of the better hole-in-the-wall Chinese-take-out places I've been to in Indy. The very first time we ordered from there "New York style" apparently meant "order taken with an attitude and then screwed up" but they've improved a lot since then. They have no problem with letting us pick and choose the vegetables in our dishes; service is always friendly. My biggest complaint is that their curry tends to be very salty compared to my other favourite places; the tongue burn lasts for hours afterward. read more

This was only my second time trying King Dragon and it was better the first. The chicken dish I ordered was very, very bland. I tossed all kinds of sauce packets onto it in an effort to resurrect some flavor, but it was no use. We have in the past enjoyed a few Chinese dives in the Noblesville area but have struggled to find one in Indy. On the whole, King Dragon was enjoyable. We enjoyed the black pepper chicken and to a lesser extent the crab wontons (seemed a bit stale, could be due to the odd time of day we picked up, but still). I have to say the wonton soup was a disappointment. Firstly, the soup smelled a bit off, then when I bit into a wonton it had a very strange "slimy" texture. Did not end up eating that. I judge a Chinese restaurant by its hot and sour soup because it's an item I order frequently. Most restaurants are inconsistent -sometimes good, sometimes tasteless and gelatinous. King Dragon's hot and sour soup is always delicious, hot, and sour as it should be, and dense with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and slivers of water chestnut. While their menu is typical Americanised Chinese fare, the entrees are well-prepared. The meats are good quality, the vegetables crisp and fresh, and the sauces savory without being overpowering.
