The first Chinese restaurant we tried, today 4-22-2026, is King Dragon on Broad Ripple Ave. We got the Bourbon Chicken for takeout. The chicken was old, dried out and tough for $11.39. Your average neighborhood Chinese hotspot. I ordered the Mongolian beef and it was just okay (not spicy at all despite the chili symbol), but the orange beef was truly amazing! Highly recommend that. Good egg rolls, great dumplings with a light gingery-dumpling sauce. Service: You call and they say 15 minutes, and when you get there it then takes about 10 minutes, but that ensures it's hot and fresh. I didn't expect this place to be this good! It's great, actually. And the "New York Style" claim on their menu is pretty damn accurate. Having visited New York City well over 100 separate times throughout my life (and eaten upwards of 1000 restaurant meals there, about half of those being some kind of Asian cuisine) - I will attest. This mom & pop Indianapolis wok kitchen has skills! Their food is always well-seasoned, hot, and generously-portioned which makes it an amazing value. And their homemade hot chili oil ($1) is really potent. It's beautiful. If you order your food 'extra spicy' they don't charge you $1. They only charge you if you ask for the oil on the side. The leading indicators on whether I deem a Chinese take-out restaurant worthy of even trying is the color of their fried rice (even though I don't typically order it). If it's yellow, I'm out. If it's light tan, I'm in. Same with the Lo Mein: if it's yellow, I'm out. If it's light tan, I'm in. Easy peasy. I trust my process. Both items at King Dragon are light tan. Check and check! Ridiculously reasonable lunch specials in the six-dollar range come with a can of soda. This is eat-here-every-day pricing. I haven't been, but then again I don't live here and I've been frequenting a bunch of different places (like K Town Hot Pot and Cafe Patachou). Literally everything I've ordered has been delicious and as I would receive from the average Canal Street Chinatown wok shop in NYC. Indianapolis shouldn't sleep on this fact. They very well might as there are some super country folks around these parts. read more

Funny story, I called in to order some appetizers and ordered.. chicken teriyaki sticks, fried won tons and 3 won tons soups. No I am think individual sizes soup.. but nope I got 3 Large soups.. see picture. Well good thing the soup was delicious because we are going to be eating it for days. chicken sticks are extremely good and fried wontons quite tasty too. Ordered mooshu pork, sweet and sour chicken, crab Rangoon, friend rice and generals tso chicken. Sadly just about every bite was overcooked. Sweet and sour was ok, but generals chicken was so dried out it was inedible. Crab Rangoon was only cream cheese; no crab no green onion. They were crunchy as heck but chewy; like they had been refried after cooking. Mooshu pork wasn't dried out but was so salty no one could do more than a few bites. Fried rice was free because of the price of the order, but every piece of meat in it was basically a piece of jerky. I thought it was an end of the night thing but it looks like they didn't close til 90 minutes after I got my food. So i don't know what the problem was tonight but there are for sure better options. Hands down the fastest pickup for takeout ever. If you're hungry order from here because by the time you call and order you can leave your house to go get it. They always quote 10 minutes no matter how much or what you order. This is the quintessential chinese take out place. Back lit pictures of the food that are probably too old to be still hung and about 200 menu items. Plus if you order a certain dollar amount they have specials for free add on items. Over $35 and you get a free order of crab rangoon! The crab rangoon is good. You can tell there is actual chunks of imitation crab unlike some places where it's so minced up. I personally thought the sweet and sour sauce was waaaay to sweet though. Pad thai, general tso and shrimp fried rice are also good and the portion sizes are large- they really pack that food in there. I've driven by this place several times and decided to give it a try as it's only a few minutes farther than my prior go-to Chinese takeout restaurant. I ordered the General Tso's chicken for myself, the sweet and sour chicken combination plate for my fiancé, and the green beans for us to share. Chicken was crispy and covered in a delicious sauce. Green beans were obviously fresh and were served in a mild brown sauce. They allowed a substitution of vegetable fried rice and a vegetable spring roll on the combination plate. We received two pints of white rice and some free egg rolls with our order. It was an incredible deal for $33 including tip. My only knock on this place is that you should give them an extra 10-15 minutes to prepare the food from what they tell you on the phone. My order was still ready in 25 minutes. This is obviously a family run business and they were very friendly. The food is better than any Chinese takeout restaurant in the area BY FAR. read more

King Dragon used to be my favorite carry-out chinese place in the city. It appears the place is under new ownership and unfortunately they have quickly ruined the place. They will only be able to survive off of the original loyal customers for so long before this place goes under. It all revolves around the quality of the food. First is the egg rolls. It is understandable that a resteraunt like this would have frozen egg rolls to save costs. But you don't have to sacrifice quality. The egg rolls before were great, a good size, and had nice flavor. The new egg rolls are tiny, although they give you two. But the taste is comparable to something you find in the Meijer freezer section. The dumplings also have suffered. Steamed dumplings are my all time favorite chinese appetizer. The old dumplings were nice and plump, had a good dough, and the flavor of the filling was great. The sauce that complimented it was also delicious. The new dumplings resemble the NBC logo, have barely any filling and are severely lacking in flavor. They also taste very processed and frozen. The rest of our meal was pretty average in flavor. Nothing special stood out. I'm truly disappointed after being a loyal customer since the beginning, but i will probably need to find a new takeout chinese resteraunt. read more

Much better than the Side Wok Cafe down the street. But definitely not the best Chinese food experience in Indy by any stretch. There's nothing all that special here. Just your standard Chinese takeout fare. If you're in the mood for that, this is a decent option. The food is always well prepared and flavorful in my experience. They do er more toward the side of "American" taste buds in dishes like General Tso's, which is much sweeter instead of spicier. Of course, that's a New York dish to begin with, so what's authenticity matter? I will say they can be disorganized as other reviews have noted. The last time I went in, two kids around kindergarten age were running rampant. There were no customers, so these were apparently children of the employees. One of them ran up to me and was hanging on my arm and demanding attention, which I didn't want to give. I just wanted my food and not to babysit strangers' kids. But none of the employees seemed concerned that their kid was literally climbing on me. Which I think paints a picture of their organization skills and professionalism. read more

I happen to like steamed dumplings a lot and I am always on the look out for yummy ones! One of my friends told me they had good dumplings so I had to come and check them out. And they were right. They have the typical pork dumplings and veggie dumplings too. Both are great but I love having a veggie option. Both are available steamed or fried. the food and portion sizes were good, however the menu prices online are wrong, when i asked her about it she said "it's for all stores" but that made no sense as we looked at the menu connected to that stores address. the prices that are correct are way more over priced than the online menu, and we spent over 65$ on 3 people and were supposed to get a free pint of rice and a free chicken meal and didn't get either, very unsatisfied and will not return, i highly suggest taking your money somewhere else it's not worth it read more

Everything is made fresh to order. I only waited about 15 minutes for my food. The staff was really friendly. Be advised they do have strong accents. Even though I was ordering take out, I let her know that I was going to eat in for a bit. She was nice enough to offer to have my food on a plate instead of the take out boxes. I knew that I probably wouldn't be able to finish eating so she brought it out all beautifully presented on a tray. I could tell they steamed their broccoli to garnish my General Tso chicken lucy combo. I also had the pork chop mein. They are one of the FEW Asian restaurants in Indy that still serve bean sprouts in their food! They do have complimentary water for dine-in. I suggest calling in your order. This Broadripple. Enjoyed my meal. I ordered Gyoza, Tom Yam Gong Soup and two shrimp egg rolls. The soup was a semi spicy and sour type, with hints of something floral.. Maybe lavender? Today was a chilly day outside, and this warmed me up nicely. Nothing major about the egg rolls. However, the gyozas were pretty big. I'd like to come back and try some other meals. read more

This place always hits the spot. Plenty of food for your dollar. Each time I walk in, which is usually every two to three weeks, the workers are always attentive to you and quick to get you out the door. Out go-to order is beer lo mein, moo goo gai, won ton, and the sweet and sour pork. Plus, they always throw us some extra rice or egg rolls as courtesy! This will hold up for 2 or 3 meals for at least a couple people. The food is mostly fresh and the prices aren't bad - this is a good spot in Broad Ripple for take out. read more

Tried to order over the phone a half hour before close and when I got there they had no idea what I was talking about with a phone order. I guess they don't do that. They made my "food" And got me out the door two minutes before closing, and I received barely cooked chicken fried rice with zero sauce or seasoning in it, and all of the sauce was squeezed out of a cold bottle into the bottom of my bag, ruined a pair of my jeans and ruined my night. read more

Orange chicken was so overcooked that I couldn't get a fork through it. It was so dry and hard! I'm really disappointed because I was really expecting to receive something edible when I ordered lunch from here today. Since I was still hungry from only eating rice, I tasted my partner's beef and broccoli. Couldn't swallow. I was honestly shocked that he had been eating what felt and tasted exactly like dog food. I've driven by this restaurant for so many years and never gave it a thought until a friend recommended that I try it. Well I'm so glad that I did! On my first visit I ordered the Shrimp Egg Foo Young and it was delicious! My husband ordered the House Pad Thai and he said that it was the best he's ever had (and he has had Pad Thai from so many restaurants in Indy). i like this place, but it's a little hit & miss based on what you order. Now this is a large menu, so I can only speak to what I've had, so take that into consideration. I like to "test" Chinese restaaurants by their Ma Po Dofu (or tofu as some call it)- ground pork and tofu in a spicy sauce. Kind of an atypical, not so popular in America traditionally flavored Chinese dish, but Americanized most places of course. For here, I'd say skip it- I was disappointed. Bland and far sweeter than spicy. It should be made with fermented black beans and garlic but didn't taste like it. But decided to try again. Found my go to now- their Twice Cooked Pork (which they call Double Cooked Pork, or as the woman taking orders says "Double Cookie Pork"- haha, cute). It's very good for a take out place- good spice, and a very generous portion. For just over $10, I can get about 3 meals out of an order! Other dishes I've had fall into the "fine" category for me- Mongolian Beef, Beef Lo Mein, a couple others. Not bad, but not outstanding either. But overall, based on my go to and the value and speed they give, I will be back to try other dishes as well. read more

This is a 4 star for service. It's crazy, but do hear me out. On an evening of heavy rain I come here at 9:15 or so, and all workers, owners are eating their dinner. They have locked the main door, but the open sign is on. The owner comes and opens the door, leaves what his dinner, and gets to prepare my order with the help of a chef. Out of 4 people who were eating, I got 2 of them off their food. And not a single sign of irritation, instead upon saying sorry for disturbing their meal, he smiled and said "no problem, we are open till 10pm". There was one more walk in and another call in as many well. Such is their work ethic. Touched! Anyway, I have eaten here quite a few times, and for the price you pay it is good and tasty. read more

Just tried King Dragon after rave reviews from people at nearby Monon Coffee Shop. (Beatniks are actually great judges of ethnic food!) The steamed vegetable dumplings had been highly recommended. They did become the highlight of the meal. Usually Chinese restaurants will sell small dumplings with chicken or pork, steamed and then pan-fried, as is traditional. But larger, doughy bao (dumplings) that have simply been steamed may be even more traditional. That's how these luscious green pockets were prepared. They were bursting with vegetal goodness: carrots, cabbage and maybe even minced broccoli. I didn't care much for the Worcestershire-heavy sauce they served them with, but they were even superb alone. Other dishes were also well cooked. The "spicy" Hunan triple delight with beef, broccoli, water chestnuts, shrimp and chicken didn't pack the promised bite, and I could have used more shrimp--especially at the $9 price for Chinese takeout. Still, it was tasty. I was more impressed with the Honey Chicken entree. It was surprisingly light and crisp for being deep fried. This is characteristic of King Dragon's foods: They're way lighter than most takeout entrees. Overall, the place is not cheap ... but then again, you get what you pay for. Everyone has their favorite, go-to Chinese place and since moving to Indy I had yet to find mine--that changed this weekend! A coworker recommended this place because it's her go-to.  A couple friends and I stopped in to grab dinner before a movie night. It's located in a small strip mall next to my favorite nail salon.  There's limited parking, but I've never not been able to find a spot. We went in on a Friday night and it was hopping!! People were constantly coming in for take out orders while we waited for our orders. The service was good and very fast for how busy they were. They have a very large selection!  Half the menu is pictured on the wall, which I liked, especially when you don't know what you want, plus you eat with you eyes! I decided on the pepper steak combination dinner which comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll for about $9.  It was so much food, it easily made three meals!  I was very impressed and will be coming back again! read more
