Gopchang delicious!!!
Nga P.

Came on a Saturday, was originally going to try pigya but the wait was long. My next alternative was to find a gopchang place. I landed here because they had reservations still available. Long behold, I arrived and was seated promptly. Didn't know it was right next to aghassi which is famous for the gopchang and BTS spot. The food was incredible. We ordered a small meat combo and a small intestine. Food came with a side of bean paste stew. Meat was incredibly tender that my eyes lit up. The gopchang was amazing and deep fried since I didn't do the combo version to grill on the table. It was soooo crispy and didn't taste chalky at all. I was in love tonight. The place was packed but service was great. Tables were having a good time and drinking with staff. I think I got the full Korean experience here. Love the atmosphere and would definitely be back!

Had a great experience at Kingchang LA today! We ordered the Small Pork Combo and added a half order of pork skin. Everything was delicious, and all the side dishes were really good too. The service was excellent. The staff was very attentive and grilled the meat for us, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, great food and great service. I really enjoyed my meal and will definitely be coming back. I think this might become one of my regular spots!

Great business. Such a great experience with my friends for the first time; felt so welcome and excited. I loveee the energy! Thank you servers for such a great time and food. Will have to come back again :)

I'm so glad we decided to try King Chang in LA's Koreatown! It's not AYCE, but honestly, the portions were just right for the three of us. We ordered the Small Beef Combo, which comes with prime thinly sliced brisket, prime boneless short ribs, and a choice of a third meat, we chose the bulgogi. The combo also comes with a choice of spicy paste stew, soybean paste stew, or ramen, and we chose the ramen and loved it! We also ordered the large beef intestines, and they were SO good! Definitely one of our favorites. I also love that they cook the meat for you, so you can just sit back, eat, talk, and enjoy. Our server Alvin was amazing, so kind, friendly, and attentive. The other staff were just as welcoming. I was with my dog, Jimin (Toby), and they all instantly loved him, which made our experience even better. The restaurant is definitely loud and lively, but I didn't mind at all. Everyone was eating, talking, laughing, and just having a good time. It gave the place such a fun and energetic KBBQ atmosphere. Great food, great portions, amazing service, and a really fun experience. We'll definitely be back!

Came for an early dinner with the family and it was a great choice! We were able to join the waitlist and be seated right away. Our server Jay is awesome! He's very attentive and gave us an idea of what would be best for our table. We got the beef combos for our table and the seafood pancakes. Really loved that they helped cook the meat! The sides were also very good! Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a kbbq spot.

It's located in the same "alleyway" business spot as Ahgassi Gopchang, both can be prone to be super busy, so keep that in mind. There is a seating/waiting area outside which is nice. We came here on the last day of Anime Expo and we were seated immediately. There's a good amount of tables and seating inside. Perfect. Apparently my boyfriend went here before and ran into Tablo from Epik High. Neat! Service was efficient and they get the food out to you ASAP. Even though there's a place that specializes in intestines next door, my boyfriend can't help but to order it here too, but who can blame him since it's a deliciously crispy and yummy meat and not THAT common, I suppose. We got the medium spicy intestine combo and when we asked how spicy it was, we confirmed that it was around as spicy as Buldak. I've been eating other Buldak variants lately and not the original, so this kind of hit me on the back of the head like a baseball bat. Definitely is an additive spiciness that builds throughout the meal. Somewhat destroyed our less spice tolerant Cantonese friend and we had a lot of food left over. Each combo comes with a stew (we bot the soybean paste one) a steamed egg, aged kimchi, cheese fondue (it's a small tinfoil bowl of cheese you cook on the grill), jalapenos and onions, as well as all of the banchan. There's also the option to choose 3 items and you can duplicate up to 2 items, but I think we just got one of each (small/large intestine and the abomasum). Due to underestimating the spice and being dehydrated after technically 5 days of AX, we were not able to finish all of our food and had to take it to go. This is definitely something you need a drink to cool down with or rice to mitigate the spice. But overall, not bad!

Loved our dinner at King Chang-La! Authentic Korean BBQ. The gut combo was incredible. Staff was nice, food came out quickly. Highly recommend for Ktown food lovers.

This place was open late and we ended up here after a concert. They were not busy and our server was really funny. They cook here for you so that was a plus for us ladies.

The BBQ was so delicious! The meat was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. I really enjoyed it and would definitely come back!

Food was amazing and the service was exceptional! 10/10 would recommend! We got the medium intestine combo and would definitely come back!!!

Galbi Jjim Cheese Spicy Beef Back Ribs
Alex B.

This place is all about the the Korean beef back rib. I was hunting for a Galbi Jjim beef rib one night and this place popped up on my Yelp. They are open late. Most nights they are open to Midnight and on weekends they are open even later. They have really good cold noodle soup and this incredibly tasty potato hash brown and cheese thing. I'll post a picture of it. The beef back ribs are giant and served on the bone. They come out in a big steaming hot stone cauldron and the waiter will cut them off the bone for you and he mixes them into this delicious brown sauce, onion, and potato bowl. The small Korean sides of Kimchi and radish are incredibly refreshing. The Korean cold noodle soup here is very good. They have both kinds - the one in the red sauce and the one in the clear vinegar based broth. Both have good chewy noodles. This place is absolutely awesome. My favorite new Korean restaurants, if not my absolute favorite overall Korean restaurant. It's tucked away in a pretty well known Korean food plaza in the back corner. The inside is lively Korean vibes. The ambience is fun and feels like a transport into some type of cool drinking Korean food spot (as it should) It's not KBBQ style where you need to cook it yourself, and I love this. The older I get, the more I don't want to have to cook my food at a restaurant. I like showing up, sitting down, and delicious prepared food is brought to me! Just thinking about that beef rib has me hungry! These photos are from two different visits a few months apart!!

The soup was simply delicious with a smooth velvety texture and flavor. The ramen was so good (freshly made every day) in its finest al dente texture with a nice large diameter. Rare in The OC. The rib meat can be removed with chopsticks ! And the most tenderness of protein. The kimchi cabbage and radishes are so delicious. Spicy but not kickass (ok for me) biting into sweetness I've never tasted anywhere in the world that serves K-ramen. Service is most excellent as they immediately greet you, seat you, menu, then, the table top appetizers are served. I believe the owner or chef brought the entrees. That's different! He came out later to see how everything was! As I tried to visit him in the kitchen to compliment, he's gone! Inside has plenty of seating with booths on one side and bench seats on the other with chair seated tables in the middle. Highly recommend this place. Competitively priced. At Joy, Ku delivers a menu of Taiwanese fast-casual fare similar to its sister restaurant (and Michelin-recognized) Pine & Crane. Here, the modern menu of Americanized Taiwanese comfort food feels infinitely more approachable than the dense novels at traditional Chinese banquet halls. Joy is set up on a busy corner of York. Enter to join the queue before a backlit menu board. The cold salad selection is illuminated within the trim deli case. Sturdy wooden stools are pressed up against two-seater tables, while a cushioned half-booth runs along the back wall. Vaguely rural pan-Asian knick-knacks decorate the off-white walls. As the sun sets, the warm lighting feels infinitely more moody. The loud chatter, dance music, and clanging of metal silverware feel more like a bar than a fast-casual Chinese restaurant. My finacee and I visited for an early weekend dinner, and we arrived to a full house. We kicked off our meal with a slice of Sesame Scallion Bread. The puffy triangle was a cross between a hoagie bun and a King's Hawaiian roll. It was neutral and dry by itself, but we enjoyed pairing it with chili oil. Across the rotating sides, we were drawn to the Wood Ear Mushroom and Lotus Root salads. Of the two, we preferred the chewy, oily 'shrooms, but the apple-like texture of the chili lotus root slowly grew on me. My fiancee's favorite dish was the Thousand Layer Pancake with egg and cheese. The piping-hot rolls achieved the crispy-yet-oily combo that most fried dishes only hope to reach. Lastly, the Dan Dan Noodles were creamy but lacked depth of flavor. The Jidori chicken supplement was fine, but I found myself wanting spicy mala and minced pork. The service team worked together like clockwork, and the bill approached $40. Broadly, Joy felt like an Americanized, vegetarian-friendly take on Chinese comfort food. The entire meal was generally enjoyable, and my fiancee firmly swore that Joy exceeded her experience at Pine & Crane. Nonetheless, the flavors and textures (while familiar to the American palate) felt subdued; I'll be more likely to stick to the SGV stalwarts in the future.

The oxtail and back ribs were extremely tough and difficult to chew, which was frustrating considering this was the main reason we decided to dine here. The braised beef short ribs, however, were cooked to perfection--tender and flavorful. It was disappointing that the quality was so inconsistent within the same dish. Interestingly, the soup ended up being the highlight of our meal, even though ordering it was a last-minute decision. The broth was rich, creamy, and incredibly flavorful. The rice cakes and dumplings were also delicious and packed with flavor. The restaurant was busy with a large crowd, and the servers did an okay job, nothing particularly outstanding. Overall, the soup was amazing, but it wasn't what we came here for. We came specifically for the Koh Galbi Jjim, and the tough, chewy oxtail and back ribs made the experience fall short of our expectations. Then came the next dilemma: keep it simple or load it up with tempura, vegetables, and an egg? Thankfully, the nabeyaki udon ($18.75) solved that problem by including a little bit of everything. One thing I immediately appreciated was that the hot pot presentation wasn't merely decorative. Seated with a view of the kitchen, I could see a chef placing the pot directly over a flame before adding the broth, noodles, and a freshly cracked egg. The dish was then finished with a meaty shiitake mushroom, bouncy fish cakes, plenty of green onions, and a single shrimp tempura. The only thing I would have changed was serving the shrimp tempura on the side. Sitting in the broth softened the coating quickly. Still, the broth itself was excellent... deeply flavourful without becoming overly salty. Better yet, the heated pot kept every spoonful piping hot from beginning to end. The udon was the star. Thick, springy, and wonderfully chewy, it had the satisfying texture that makes fresh udon so addictive. Not wanting an overly heavy lunch, I skipped adding extra noodles, a decision I regretted almost immediately. The egg was another welcome addition. As it slowly poached in the hot broth, I resisted the temptation to eat it all at once and instead broke the yolk apart, allowing it to enrich and slightly thicken the remaining soup.

Delicious food, a lovely atmosphere, genuinely friendly service, and wonderful company. What more could you ask for? Cheers to another lovely DTLA find!
