Kinetic Cycles is a bike shop. It's fine. It's great that they are so close to the bike trail. My experiences here have been fine. And by fine, I mean the type of fine where you're like it's not great, and it's not terrible. Not amazing. Not wonderful. They were the shop I would take my bike to until I found a shop that I really loved. The times I've gotten my bike serviced here have been fine, but it is stressful coming in. I never feel as if I'm welcome. I feel like I'm 5 years old and I have no idea what I'm doing in this place. Most of the time I come in and I'm just standing there awkwardly with my bike, waiting for someone to help me with service, and trying to not feel dumb for being there. Some of the employees can be standoffish. I prefer taking my bike to In Velo Veritas or Pacos, but in a bind, I'd go to Kinetic. read more

Has an opportunity to do a Retul Bike fit with Cody from Kinetic Cycles. The fit started with an assessment and then a motion sensor real time analysis of my bike position. Cody explained how position and the angles affected comfort as well as performance. We ultimately changed the seat height, angle, bar stem length and height as well as cleat positioning. Small subtle differences, but supported with data from the sensors as well as feel. All in all, a great experience and highly recommended. read more

This place is small but they have a lot of great gear. I highly recommended them. I am not a biking enthusiast. Actually I am a couch potato who bought a Peloton to fulfill my New Year's resolution of getting in better shape. I didn't want to pay $150 or more on niche Peloton brands shoes that may end up listed on Offer Up for $10 if indoor cycling isn't my thing. I could not find alternatives at Dick's, Amazon or Big 5. I also needed gear advice that I couldn't get at those stores (shopping local and small is my other new year's resolution). Sales people in specialty sports stores can be a bit condescending to non-enthusiasts looking for gear and advice. That's not the case at Kinetic Cycles. Everyone was nice to me, even though I'm just a spin cycle newbie, and I arrived 15 minutes before closing. Cody was quite knowledgeable about indoor cycling. He listened to my ideas, which included switching out the pedals for normal flat ones. He told me pluses and minuses of my ideas without talking down to me or using jargon. He guided me to a reasonably priced shoe that can accommodate multiple types of bike cleats in case I get an outdoor bike. He installed the cleats required for Peloton bikes, too. My total was super low because I happened to fit the last pair of a clearance priced shoe. Otherwise their prices are competitive with other sporting goods stores. Even if I didn't buy on clearance, Kinetic has several shoes that will cost the same or a bit less than the Peloton brand shoes. However at Kinetic, you get a better quality shoe that can accommodate other types of bike pedals, no waiting for the good to arrive by mail (and get stolen by a porch pirate) and far superior service. read more

Rating 5.0 TLDR: If you need your bikes tuned, fix, or upgraded, come here. The crew here is knowledgeable in all things cycling. And I'm always race ready when theyre finished with my bike. Dont go to a big bike dealer like Joe Schmoe's bikes (iykyk); support your local bike shop instead. Also, even if they are a Specialized brand LBS, don't let that deter you from dropping off your bike, theyll treat your bike like it's their own. Not TLDR: I've been coming here for over 5 years now, and they've worked on many variations of bikes that I've brought in: adventure bike, cruiser, road bike, and tri bike. And I have had little to no problems with the result of their tune ups, fixes, or upgrades. On an off chance a problem does arise after bringing it to them, they work diligently to identify and fix the problem. The crew is very professional and awesome to work with. They are very knowledgeable in all things cycling, and will find out information if they don't know the answer. I cant say the same for bigger bike shops I've had experience with, so I go here all the time. Also, a big thing for me is that although they are a Specialized brand LBS, they have always accepted my non-specialized bike and made me feel at home. In fact, I always see them working on all brands of bikes. They won't force you to buy anything either, they aren't car dealership salesman type LBS, so that's a huge boon. I'll definitely be getting a specialized road bike in the near future though :). Honestly, words can't express the satisfaction I've experienced with their services over five years and this review is LONG overdue. Overall, quality crew, quality ownership, quality service. 2020...the year that many of us picked up new hobbies -- maybe by choice, maybe because we had no other choice. For me, it was the year I finally decided to give cycling a try and I'm never looking back. I started with a cheap "starter bike" that I bought from an online shop but I soon discovered that I wanted to get something better to help keep up with the rest of my crew on the bike trails -- finding out about Kinetic Cycles was the best thing that could have happened for my new found hobby. The staff took great to help me get my new bike fitted just right and provided me with great advice and got me ready to go. What I loved most was that they were looking out for MY best interest and not just upselling me on accessories (on my first day I already wanted to upgrade some components and they talked me out of it and advised I get used to my bike first -- great service!) A few months later after putting hundreds of miles on my bike I took it in for some slight tweaks to the brakes and they were more than willing to help me out. I think Bruce and his staff made me a customer for life, grateful for this place! read more

After my most recent experience with Kinetic Cycles, I can't recommend this shop. I've been a customer here for a while now and have joined their group rides, purchased Sworks road shoes, bike tools, miscellaneous bike services, cycling jerseys, bibs, etc, and most recently had a terrible experience with my Retul Bike Fit. It's a shame because Kinetic is the closest bike shop to me and I try to support my local bike shops when I can, even if Kinetic might be on the more expensive side, but I won't be coming back to Kinetic. I can see how some other reviewers have expressed they feel "unwelcome" or like the staff can come off as "stand off-ish", I can definitely see that. Most recently I had emailed Ryan from Kinetic for a Retul Bike Fit, we settled on a date for the fit and had it confirmed. Fast forward to the day of the bike fit and I arrive at the shop a few minutes early, and wait around the shop for about half an hour without Ryan showing up. A few staff came up to me asking if I've been helped, including who I think is the owner, to which I explained I was waiting for Ryan. They said they got a hold of Ryan and that he basically forgot the appointment we had scheduled because his "calendars were acting up" or something absolutely ridiculous. I had received a google calendar reminder from Ryan so that just doesn't make any sense, and was also told this has happened before... The owner never followed up with me to assess the situation, rather another staff member, Cody, explained the situation and basically offered me to downgrade my fit to something quicker so he could "bang it out" before his other scheduled fit, or I could come back a different day, or lastly, I could come back later that same day, which is what I opted for. Basically, from this point onward it was just a poor experience overall. When I arrived for my fit and throughout the fit, Cody came off like he just wanted to get the bike fit done as soon as possible, weirdly stand off-ish, and borderline annoyed, which I found surprising given my situation with their team dropping the ball for my fit, not the other way around. Going into the fit I gave Cody the benefit of the doubt because the previous scheduling issues weren't on him, but after my fit with him, I left feeling like I was not welcome there. Their solution to the scheduling mishap was to give me a $50 discount from the fit, and I ended up buying a saddle as well. I was rung up and walked out the front door with my hands full while also trying to wheel my bike out the door with no assistance form the staff. As part of the bike fit, there is a PDF of bike fit measurements that are given to the rider to apply to future fits, and Cody had confirmed the email during our fit, however I hadn't received the email for most of that same day after the fit. I called right before they closed to ask about it, and was told Cody was busy with another fit but he would be reminded, which I can understand and didn't think much of it. That was Friday, didn't get anything over the weekend or on Monday, and I called Tuesday morning and spoke to Cody over the phone, was told he would email it, of course didn't receive anything. At this point, I'm annoyed and frustrated. I call the shop a little bit before they closed and spoke to Cody once again. As soon as he got on the phone he blurted out "I'm going to send it now." I have no clue how Kinetic feels like this is an ok way to communicate with their customers. I explained that I was frustrated, I had paid for a service and had a poor experience, and now I am not being provided a part of the service I had paid for and I wanted to know why. Cody didn't have an answer when I asked why he hadn't sent it, he simply said "I just didn't get around to sending it" and made an excuse of having so many other customers he was helping and reminded me that he had given me a $50 dollar discount for the fit, which I didn't ask for and does not excuse their terrible customer service. I had no guarantee that I would actually get the email, but thankfully I did shortly after we got off the phone, and I just wanted to be done with this shop. Never heard from Ryan about missing our appointment. Never got a follow up from the owner the day of the fit to make sure things were taken care of. Had a terrible experience in general with the bike fit and post-fit. The actual adjustments to my fit were effective and did help, but that doesn't really help all of the stuff mentioned above. There are so many other bike shops in Sacramento, including Paco's who is also a Specialized dealer if you need it, Trek Midtown, Folsom, Roseville are fantastic, Neighborhood bike shop is awesome too, so I just can't recommend Kinetic. read more

Went to Kinetic Cycle for a simple tire repair and ended up learning a thing or two. They pointed out I needed a new tire liner, which likely caused the flat. My mistake? Overinflating the tube. They set me straight, and the service was both quick and easy on the wallet. If I ever need another bike repair or decide to buy a new bike, I know where I'm going. I try very hard to never leave negative reviews when you can get a lot more done being direct. In this case we tried, but the exchanges we had were really disappointing. We brought our kid's bike in for service and picked it up worse off than when we brought it in. They deflated the tires. I don't think they actually did anything to fix the chain and the brakes were not functional. They sure did charge us though. We were trying to find businesses to support in our neighborhood but ended up taking the bike to Mike's Bikes downtown, and they got us squared away, so we will just go there from now on. We wanted to let families like ours (two kids under 5 and an immunocompromised parent) know that they don't follow public health orders and it seems are doing so as a statement. When we asked about it, their response was, "we're not here to argue politics with you." Well, we aren't here to argue about science. It's true whether or not you believe in it. And even after all the dust settles, we will remember who did what they could for everyone over making political statements. read more

I was first greeted by CODY which took the time to walk me through different saddles and the benefits of each. This made my selection quite simple. I then requested a bike fitting and Cody again rose to the occasion and locked me in for in depth fitting. This was my first experience going through the process and it really showcased the science behind it all. I drove my grandma here yesterday, as she wanted to get something for her husband for Christmas - something the bike stores in Folsom had run out of. Luckily, Kinetic Cycles had plenty in stock. The store is super cool! We went back to where the item she was looking for was located, and there was a guy who was super nice and looked extremely familiar. Cannot recommend Kinetic strongly enough. I'm not a bicycle "pro" and I'm a woman, so shopping for bikes and parts almost always means dealing with condescending and exasperated salespeople. After experiencing that kind of treatment at another major bicycle retailer in town, I went to Kinetic and was so impressed with their friendliness, patience and knowledge. Unfortunately, due to COVID, they were quite backordered but let me test out comparable bikes in the meantime, then put me on a waitlist for the one I wanted. Been to Kinetic Cycles for a Gravel bike meet last year, with the not so advanced group. However, the not so advanced group was too advanced for me. Now, I take my 2018 Specialized Allez Elite for a pro tune up this past Sunday. Sure, I could of taken my Allez to the place I bought it, but I rather take it to a local bike shop, and a shop that specializes in Specialized bikes. My Allez Elite was ready for pickup yesterday, was a fast turnaround, probably due to this Pandemic going on, and not a lot of customers requesting service. Will go for a ride tomorrow to see how my Allez Elite feels after the tune up. I'm pretty sure Kinetic Cycles got the job done right! read more

I first went into Kinetic cycle when they were in South Sac/Elk Grove - met Bruce at that time and really appreciated the time he took to discuss bikes with me as I was having troubled getting the right fit for a steel road bike. I ultimately was lucky enough to buy a custom frame from Steve Rex, but I went back to Kinetic recently when I was having some trouble with my set up after being out of biking for awhile. Bruce is so patient and professional - really really appreciate his expertise. This is my go to shop in Sacramento and I'm so glad it's closer to me at the current location! Bike: 2019 Specialized Stumpjumper EVO 27.5 Services: Brake bleed (SRAM Code R) & suspension service (Fox 36 & DPX2) I was looking for a bike shop with very seasoned / competent / precise mechanics and my cousin recommended Kinetic Cycles. I called a few times to ask some questions about the service, scheduling and cost. Brought the bike in one day early and the service was completed by 2pm the following day - as scheduled. When I came in to pick up the bike I spoke with Cody, the mechanic who did the work. He told me how the brake fluid and suspension oil looked when he did the service - he also adjusted my shock rebound and added a sag ring that had been missing, which I really appreciated. Cody was super knowledgeable and explained what I would need to do in terms of travel and fork offset if I wanted to switch my front wheel from 27.5" to 29". He also checked some work I had done myself on the headset. I've never had this experience before but the bike feels brand new. Because it was gradual process, I hadn't noticed how sticky the suspension had become. While I was questioning at first whether or not I needed the work done, the service made a world of difference. I can only comment about their public Saturday bike ride event- No route/instructions were posted other than "heading downriver", and asking regulars for clues the morning of led me nowhere. I literally got dropped at the first stoplight, pedaled "downriver" and tried to find the group and had no luck. Turns out they "took a new route" this day which went the complete opposite way. There was no introduction from the ride leader, no sweeper (person riding last keeping everyone together), and no direction at all. Why this is regularly posted as an open invite on social media is beyond me. I was new to this type of riding, on a brand new bike, and ready for a new experience. It was an absolutely sad and terrible morning that I wish on noone. I heard later that "someone" came "looking for me", but I can't confirm that, I pedaled around a neighborhood by myself, lost for a solid 5-10 minutes. There should be things in place that prevent things like this from happening on a group ride. Will be staying far away from this place. read more

Their service department is the best. I have had my bikes into several different shops in the area and they have ranged from acceptable all the way down to just plain stupid. I trust Kinetic to keep my bikes running first rate. I have never had a problem getting a bike in for a quick adjustment. They carry all the good stuff: Specialized Bikes as mentioned, Garmin bike computer gear, Specialized bike clothing and accessories, nutritional supplements, locks, Park Tools, and other things needed by cyclists. Unfortunately, they don't believe in covid and don't wear masks behind the counter (it's all open there is no barrier) and apparently have no idea what social distancing is.
