Our son goes to school in Davis and needed someone to troubleshoot his e-bike wheel. This after several works by the local bike services. We only a Saturday to take care of this because we're from out of town. My husband found great reviews on Velo Trap and decided to take a chance. Our 30-minute trip to take the e-bike to Sacramento was worth it! Andron went above and beyond to take apart the wheel, talked to tech support from the e_bike brand dealer, and made a customized part to fix the problem so that we could have the bike all fixed up by the end of the day. Just the other day the chain on my specialized stumpjumper snapped while I was just out and about. I was distraught and needed the repair to be done soon since I rely heavily on my bike for transportation around UC Davis. I looked around online and found this little gem. I had remembered seeing it whenever I went to Big Stump on the other side to grab a beer and thought I'd bring my poor bike on over. Got there around 11 AM on a Saturday and I was quickly greeted and helped. Was in and out in about 15-20 minutes and the repair was MUCH cheaper than I had expected. With service like this, I'll be sure to be back for all my bicycle needs. I asked if they could take a quick look at my bike overall since I had not gotten it at for about a year. They stated they would give it a look over and let me know if they saw any problems when I dropped off. Next day got a call that I just needed a basic tune up at a very reasonable price. What once was Edible Pedal has become Velo Trap, a super cool, locally run and owned bike shop that's ideal for the urban bicyclist. They have everything you need to get you back on the road and riding along in top gear! My Schwin was in desperate need of a tune up. I ride the thing constantly and, just before I brought it in, had been having issues with my chain constantly falling off. Not to mention my wheels were out of alignment and my grips were moments away from completely disintegrating off the handles. The friendly repair guy took one look and said they could fix it all with a basic $40 tune up (plus the cost of the handle grips). He even said they could have it back to me within an hour, which was an unexpected surprise considering that I've had to leave my bike overnight during any previous tune ups at other shops. Sure enough, an hour later I received a call that my bike was ready. More good news: he said the cost was $33 because it wasn't in as bad a shape as they thought! I especially like the open garage feel and the approachable staff. This may not be the place to go if you're a die hard, Lance Armstrong type, but for the casual cyclist like myself, it's everything you need and more. read more

First time in was yesterday - I called ahead spoke to Andron, he told me no wait time and that the tire I needed was in stock. I always call ahead everywhere just to save myself the time. I brought two of my bicycle tires in one for a flat repair and one to be checked out. Andron is the man in charge from what I saw the minute I walked in. He greeted me and came up to me right away to take the tires of my hands. Phone rang once and he picked up. While working on my tires he was giving customers information over the phone, mellow chill vibe and very respectful staff. Andron not only explained what he was doing while working on the tires, he also educated me on some details about my bike I had no idea applied. Overall this is now my favorite place to bring my bike. I rode it for the first time today to have it inspected by Andron. He adjusted many things and greased all the bells and whistles. I am extremely grateful for such knowledgeable staff and a place I feel comfortable bringing my bike and business. I met a nice person here names Scott. Such a a happy soul. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful and won't push you to make purchases you don't need. If you need something they don't have in stock they can order it for you and, in some cases, have it ready for pick up the very next day (this is great for impatient people like myself). On my most recent trip, i needed mechanical help that i was quoted by another local bike shop to cost me $100+. I stopped by Velo Trap the following day and Andron fixed the issue in only a few minutes and charged me a fraction of the amount i was quoted at the competitor. Should have reviewed a while ago, but this place is fantastic. I was hit by a car on my bike about a year ago, and at the time it was my main mode of transportation. The owner was so chill, down to earth, speedy and EXTREMELY helpful with repair. He knew I was going through insurance and was so reasonably priced, and really just went the extra mile. Best bike shop I've been to hands down. The owners are great and its just a little shop thats a hole in the wall but don't let looks deceive, they provide great customer service. Had to replace my ultrega shifters because of a hydraulic brake fluid leak and they managed to utilize the warranty on to get me a brand new one w/o the additional cost. Their service is also pretty inexpensive compared to other bike shops I've been at. At most shops you'll find the environment to be condescending because the owners tend to be snobbish as they tend to believe that they know it all, but not here, owners are pretty down to earth. This is the BEST BIKE SHOP hands down!! I've been taking my vintage bikes to one of the owners (I believe Madison?) since the shop was called Edible Pedal. It's in a little garage next to Old Soul Coffee in the alley between L and Capitol and they seriously ROCK! They are honest, kind and compassionate w their extremely reasonable pricing and their work. Unless they don't have a part my bikes have needed, my services are always completed within and hour or two tops! I just go next door and have a cup of coffee and anticipate riding a brand new bike momentarily and I'm so grateful for them. They give a quick call if they see anything else that needs attention and discuss any additional pricing at that time and if it's not in my budget and I kindly decline (if it's something that can wait) they are just so kind and sincere every time. Let me put something into perspective for everyone. In the past, I've taken my bikes (or called) to other shops for quotes. I've gotten quotes of around $60 Velo Trap charged me $25! Please remember to tip! They sooooo deserve it! Stopped by earlier to get some work done on my bike because last night I accidentally biked into a parked car like an idiot. Well, let me tell you. This is truly the place to go to for excellent service. The entire staff are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. These guys live and breathe bikes for a living, and it certainly shows. What I also really like is that there isn't this pretentious bike buff vibe here like there is in other midtown bike shops, and that is really important to me. Today a nice young man named Sen worked on my bike. Not only did he repair my broken spoke, but he also cleaned and lubed my chain, pumped my tires and fixed a few other things, and the entire process only took about 15 minutes. I was very impressed and left him a nice tip. Honestly my bike rides and feels a million times better than it did before last night's accident. I guess it was a blessing in disguise.
