    Weekend ready. Thanks Velo Trap
    Dana W.

Someone from Sacramento area bike advocates had recommended Velo Trap and what an awesome recommendation! I got a flat tire last night and my brakes were trash. I was hoping to be able to ride this weekend and Velo trap came through. ! I am super happy to find a great bike shop at very reasonable prices. I will definitely be bringing my bike back there for repairs instead of trying to do it myself. Excellent service, fast repair, and great prices. Thanks!!!

SE Fast Ripper with new rims.
    It's That Sudden Stop O.

The folks at Velo Trap do magnanimous work! I wanted to rebuild the wheels from my SE Fast Ripper with new rims, spokes, spoke nipples and 2 piece rotors. From start to finish Velo Trap listened to, and thoughtfully addressed every concern and request that I had. The new wheels came back laced, trued and dished with outstanding precision. My bike rolls smooth as glass! The shop might not be palatial, but Velo Trap has it where it counts!

Great chain repair done on my bike!

Just the other day the chain on my specialized stumpjumper snapped while I was just out and about. I was distraught and needed the repair to be done soon since I rely heavily on my bike for transportation around UC Davis. I looked around online and found this little gem. I had remembered seeing it whenever I went to Big Stump on the other side to grab a beer and thought I'd bring my poor bike on over. Got there around 11 AM on a Saturday and I was quickly greeted and helped. Was in and out in about 15-20 minutes and the repair was MUCH cheaper than I had expected. With service like this, I'll be sure to be back for all my bicycle needs. Even though they specialize in vintage bikes and not necessarily mountain bikes, they knew their stuff and got me on the streets again and the bike feels even better than before. If you're looking for a good bike shop, this is your place!

Andron and his partner/s do quick and excellent work. I purchased a second hand bike (a Trek 700 Sport) from here over 8 years ago. I bring it in a few times a year for maintenance and replacement of parts. I believe there are new AND second hand bikes for sale, as well as many accessories (bike lights, handlebars, helmets, bike racks for the car, and cycling hats).

Able to get my groceries thanks to Velo Trap...

I brought all the parts necessary. I received several calls telling me that the rim tape I got was not the correct width (which they were proven wrong) and that my brake housings would be inferior to the ones that were on the bike, again proven wrong after installation. But the real rub is the poor quality of the bar tape wrap (see photos). I spoke to John, who told me to bring the bike back in; however, based on my experiences, I am not confident they know what they are doing. I'm trying to get a refund on my credit card for the poor taping while working with the credit card company. I will never return to Natomas Bike Shop and would never recommend them.

I asked about a tune up and she immediately said "We can't do it until mid August" which isn't a problem for me, I'm not in any rush. I said I was hoping someone could just take a look at tell me what it needs, since there's different levels of tuneups, she said "so you just want to leave it here and we can call you?" I said when would that be, she said "I don't know" I told her they seemed like they were really busy, she said "Yes, we are" I told her I would take it somewhere else that could accommodate. The reason for the one star is the complete lack of customer service.

I'm in my 20s now and know absolutely zilch about bikes. My chain snapped and I brought it into the bike kitchen. I paid $10 cash for the shop fee and immediately a volunteer helped me mount up my bike and get to work. He was so welcoming and fun to work with. We evaluated whether or not my chain was salvageable, and decided we should take a few links from a chain in the back, and add it to mine. It was only $3, and from there he taught me everything about repairing a chain. He was so nice and helpful, I used the tools and he kept watch to make sure I was doing it right. Sometimes that can be stressful, but he made sure it was a fun environment and we laughed almost the whole time. I could not recommend this place more. For them, its really just about the bikes. It felt amazing to fix it myself, and learn something about my bicycle. The volunteer also helped inspect my bike to make sure nothing else needed fixing. He explained it like, "you already paid the shop fee, lets see what else we can do". I hope I learn enough to volunteer here one day. Truly a 10/10 experience.

I went in to get my bike tuned up and tires changed because it was due time. I rode my bike once a week, love my bike, generally no issues at all. The initial quote was $225 for tune up and new tires change (me bringing the tires.) When Damien assessed the bike (the owner), he said there were some things wrong with my brakes and he wanted to bleed them and fix the brake wiring. I had no issues with my brakes whatsoever but he seemed honest at the time, so I agreed. The new quote was for $420 for fixing brakes, tune up, and new tires. Meanwhile my bike is in the shop 1 week now. $420 was very expensive to me, but I just went with his opinion. Fast forward, this guy Damien calls me again and says he found issues with my wheel and needs to redo some of the hardware on the rims, he literally over the phone told me it might be $30 more. I say fine whatever. Damien calls me to tell me the bike is done, this is two weeks now. And I go to pick it up. When I pick it up the bike was $610!!!!! This was absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. I argue with him because he never ever told me the price would be in the $600 range! I would have never agreed to that. I have to argue with him a little and he only takes the total down to $570! This bike shop is completely unprofessional. At what point would I approve $200 worth of fixing on rims? For my total to go from $420 to $610. Damien is completely dishonest, and never told me the costs and added so many unapproved costs. Why would I pay you $40 to clean my bike, I never asked you to do that yet you charged me for that! I will never bring my bike again to this place. The owner is a crook, the receipt does not lie!
