Went to Kim's last night and was very happy with the food. With so many Chinese places closing, I've been searching for a new place and have found it. It was Super Bowl Sunday, the BEST day of the year to go out to eat, everyone is at home watching the game. Even traffic was really light. My wife and I got the bbq fried rice which was better than average, chicken and green beans (chicken was a tad salty) and shrimp chow mein. Overall it was a 4.5 star meal, rounded up to 5. We will definitely be back to explore more of the menu, especially the almond duck and egg fu young.

Love, love, love this place! Pro tip - park in the back rather than on Crenshaw Blvd, mainly because there are more spots there. This is the Chinese food that I'm most used to and it is a comfort food. The salad was great and the fried chicken even better. I always get take out since it looks like there is minimal seating in the restaurant, but that's okay. The ladies working there always seem happy and aim to please. Great place!

Got the chicken fried rice. No vegetable what so ever and chicken tastes bad. I wouldn't recommend it. Panda express serves better food.

Allegedly Black and White Mushroom Chicken. Are the multicultural mushrooms in the room with us? I don't see them.

We had two orders of slippery shrimp, kung pao chicken, eggplants with hot and spicy garlic sauce, juicy steamed dumplings, and pork fried rice. Overall, both restaurants in Chinatown and Pasadena provide great food quality. The ambience was cozy with dim lighting. Our round table had a wooden rotating tray. They have pictures of celebrities and politicians who've visited their restaurant. Service was relatively quick, but there was a 20-minute wait for the dumplings. Valet parking can get difficult when the lot gets full. A few cars entering the narrow driveway had to reverse out of the way to let others leave. The kung pao chicken was very tasty with a good amount of spice. I noticed that the slippery shrimp didn't taste as spicy as the portion from Pasadena. Reviews say that the spice is adjustable. Regardless. it tasted great as it came right off the pan. The pork fried rice was delicious with a savory flavor that didn't seem overpowering. I thought the juicy steamed dumplings were the weakest dish out of our whole order. There wasn't enough flavor and heat from the broth. I didn't try much of the eggplants, but they tasted adequate for me.

Old world service is sort of hybrid these days in that you can order dim sum standards from the checklist menu, and there will be servers coming by with kitchen specialities on trays (or you could order them directly from your server) and add anything from any of the 3 different main menus. A nod to old world service hierarchy which may not be clear to visitors: the ordering beverages and condiments, and general table requests and check out is from the gold vested servers. Red vests handle food to/from kitchen. Black vests and plain white shirts are management. Everyone will be attending to the entire floor, so if you're feeling neglected or need attendance, catch an eye and wave at a gold vest. When you call in orders, you'll speak with a black vest. Prices are higher than WK nearby but the quality here is higher and the selection is much wider. GD is also really good at mixing up menus, so you can have a great congee with preserved egg and youtiao (the stick donuts), a Singapore seafood noodle dish, a braised duck hot pot, and 20 different dim sum all at the same place and high quality throughout the meal. There's a paid parking lot next door, plus metered street parking. It's generally ADA accessible. Restrooms are waaay in the back of the restaurant. For private parties of up to 40, the old bar lounge area in the front next to the host podium is wonderfully decorated and quite classy and intimate.

I've been coming here for the past two years, and their quality is stayed consistently high, if not even improving! They also have an amazing cocktail menu (which is more unusual for dim sum spots) and weekday lunch special menu from 12-3 PM, which features select dim sum and traditional Chinese dish combos at VERY affordable prices (all under $20). Absolutely unacceptable…read more We waited 10 minutes to be seated in a restaurant that was at most 30% full. Then 20 more minutes before anyone bothered to take our order. After ordering dim sum, which is typically fast and casual, we waited 45 minutes with no food. At the 30 minute mark, we politely asked for an update. Fifteen minutes later, still nothing. No explanation. Just a half-hearted apology and no sense of urgency. Instead, a random dish we didn't order was dropped off as "compliments from the kitchen." A freebie doesn't fix over an hour of being ignored. We had a hungry 5 year old with us. After a total of about 75 minutes with zero food, we told the waitress we were leaving. Her response? "Ok." That's it. No apology. No attempt to make it right. Just indifference. We even left money on the table, not because anything was earned, but because we have standards, even if this place doesn't. If this is how they operate when the restaurant isn't even busy, I can't imagine how bad it gets when it is. Plenty of other places that actually value their customers.

I would recommend getting the salt and pepper pork chop - my dad says this is literally better than most places we've gone to. I think they season the batter, which is how its so flavorful. We also typically get the eggplant, which comes in a huge plate and comes with rice. My dad likes their curry but I'm not super excited about it. Its good, but not exciting, if you know what I mean. Service is typically pretty good. They move around pretty quickly and food typically comes out pretty quickly too. I would spend about 50-60 dollars and its enough food to last two people maybe an additional 2 or 3 meals, especially since most dishes come with a dish of white rice.
