Parking can be a bear, but there are lots for a fee. It is safe and fun. Yang Chow has been there forever and they have the best fried rice and soup. They just don't serve bad food. The prices are fair and the place is comfortable and not usually crowded. It is a great place to take friends from out of town and it is kid friendly. The service is so kind and nice. They never rush you, but get your food out fast. We always get a bunch for the table and share. Their Sizzling Platter with Scallops is one of our favorited dishes and their Szechuan Chicken is so good. Their Pan Fried Dumplings and their spring rolls are a must. Have a great time in Chinatown.

Boy oh boy, were we rewarded! The atmosphere of the place is quaint but also bigger than you'd expect looking from the outside of the restaurant. We got seated at a table, and the server was very nice and observant to our needs. As for the food? 10 out of 5! The pork friend rice is easily some of the best I've had in L.A., and the sweet & sour shrimp and Mongolian Beef we got with our orders were also cooked and seasoned to perfection. The portion size was also hella generous, meaning we were able to enjoy it at home days after we had gone to the restaurant. All in all, a welcome surprise, and a new addition to Chinese food hot spots I'll be revisiting soon!

Over the course of the evening, we ordered the peach cocktail, strawberry goat cheese jasmine cocktail, Tommy's margarita, and kumquat apricot cocktail. My favorites were the first two - you could really taste all the components in them, so complex and interesting!! The kumquat apricot was also fun and refreshing for a hot night. The margarita was fine. Full disclosure - I ordered this drink because the ingredients looked really unique and interesting but I don't like Mezcal because it usually overpowers a drink, and that is kind of what happened here (couldn't taste any guava or green tea notes), so take my opinion with a grain of salt. We realized we didn't get the corn dessert until we were halfway through eating what we received. We mentioned it to our waiter jokingly but he actually brought us out the other dessert too, which was such lovely service. Honestly, even though we didn't order the melon dessert, it ended up being the sleeper hit because it was served with a an amazing creamy honey mousse underneath the melon shaved ice. It was really something special, and I'd highly recommend it. Overall, I'd recommend this for a nice date night or a splurge dinner with friends. It's not cheap, but the quality was definitely there both in their fare and their service. It was a great exploration of Asian fusion done in a fine dining/tasting menu-style.

As I was sitting at home, wondering what I was going to eat for my last meal of the night, I suddenly had the hankering for some Chinese food. I originally was going to go to some sub par place called Golden Wok. Unfortunately, they were closed for remodeling, and good thing too. I then resolved to go to the next place across the street from Golden Wok. What a splendiferous choice I had made. I had first thought Dragon Loco to be too high a priced psuedo Chinese food; seeing as I'm used to paying no more than 4 dollars for a combo platter. I was, at first, a little reluctant to pay the 5.45 for my meal. What was reluctance soon turned to sheer delight. Upon being served my food, with a smile and a thank you, I began to get the feeling that maybe paying what I did would be worth it. I was right. The food at Dragon Loco was more than exceptional. All of my food was made fresh to order (almost like a Chinese version of Jack in the Box's philosophy), and I could tell that they used quality ingredients. My orange chicken was hot and crispy with a perfect orange glaze, small bits of cooked orange peel, some spicy peppers and the rice was a perfect consistency and wasn't sloppy or haphazardly thrown on my plate. I have never, in all my years of eating family owned and cooked Chinese food, been so pleased and satisfied. I know, as well as others, that food has the power to change and influence the consumers' feelings and attitudes, and boy did it do that for me. Chicken symbolizes prosperity and happiness, I did feel happier as I was eating and I could feel a slight smile crawl across my face. When I had finished my meal, I was in much better spirits than I was when I went there, and I needed to talk to the people that had brought such a great and traditional style of food, to a small complex in Central Los Angeles. After I had gathered up my hashi and rest, then put away the remaining portions of the food I couldn't eat, I decided that I wasn't going leave without talking to at least one employee. The person that humoured me for a about 10 minutes was a man named Sam, who happened to be one of the owners of Dragon Loco. What was at first just casual questions about sashimi, sushi, me bringing my own hashi and the casting of the upcoming Avatar film and the new Dragon Ball feature, quickly turned into how I was really amazed and surprised at the appearance and the food of his establishment. Sam was certainly a nice man with an apparent love for home cooked, authentic and traditional Chinese food. The people that I observed in the back, looked like they were loving what they were doing. Being at Dragon Loco felt like I had gotten a real taste of what family owned and operated restaurants are like in China. I got to pose a few questions at Sam and he gladly answered them without any hesitation. One question that was answered struck a chord in me: Me: "What made you want to bring in a Chinese restaurant to this area?" Sam: "I grew up in a restaurant family. I wanted to bring in something different. I've seen those other Chinese places and their food, and its kind of degrading. That's not Chinese food. I wanted my place to have a sense of pride and tradition." Dragon Loco does just that. It definitely brings in a sense of pride and tradition. Those that only like Chinese food because of the way it tastes, don't know that eating other cultures' food, is an entire experience itself. Generations of hard work, pride, stories, struggle and tradition have been passed down through the food. No matter what cultural food it may be, there is always a story behind every piece that we consume. I got a small taste of the Dragon Loco story and I hope that others do too. I think its even safe to say, that I made a new friend. If you ever are in Central Los Angeles, be sure to check out Dragon Loco on the corner of Florence and Vermont, in the same complex as the flower shop and Beauty Supply. Whatever preconceived notions that you have about Chinese food, will be thrown out the window when you taste Dragon Loco's palette satisfying food. This isn't quintessential Chinese food at all. If your used to drab, typical and faux Chinese food, such as Panda Express or the likes, then Dragon Loco is not the place for you. But, if your looking for an infusion of flavor, amazing Thai iced tea and a family, friendly styled atmosphere, then jaunt on down to Dragon Loco. The trip will be rewarded with the hot and fresh food of your choice. Because we all know, "the fresher, the better." However, you don't have to take my word for it; and Sam, if your reading this, thank you so much. I've reconsidered my stance on Chinese food in America and I will definitely be back. Honey mustard chicken bowl was $9 and tasted bomb, came out quick and a good amount for $9 more than you'd get at McDonald's these days. The hot sauce is spicy and sweet definitely get extra.

The first thing that stood out for me was the portion size. Then I had a taste and was hooked. I tried the fried rice and the egg roll. It was so well prepared and flavorful. So I started going there myself. My favorites are the Combo Fried Rice and Orange Chicken. Then top it off with the combo Egg Rolls. This is the best Chinese Fast Food in the area. You can call in your order so it's ready when you get there as there is usually a line. The place is small and not really set up to eat there but when you get home you'll have a feast.
