Chicken Fried Rice -- held together with some sort of sticky, stringy, "sauce"?
    Jamie N.

I was sick in bed and thought some hot and sour soup would clear up my congestion. It didn't have much flavor--I mean, I was so concerned with the lack of flavor that I took another COVID test, just to be sure it wasn't that. There were all of these large, gelatinous pieces of something in the soup. I don't think it was chicken or tofu. Maybe some sort of a noodle-ball? Ordered beef chow mein and chicken fried rice for the kids. They didn't touch their food. Kids can be picky so I told them to pick around and just eat the parts they liked... which was basically none of it. The Chow Mein noodles somehow managed to be both undercooked AND sticky, and the beef was like breaded jerky. After scraping off the meat, the noodles tasted okay. They just had a really bad texture. The chicken fried rice had a distinct smell. Sour??? I hesitate to call it rancid because I refuse to believe that someone is out here selling rotten food. But I was going to scoop some onto a plate and it had all of these strings coming out of it--I don't know if it's some sort of byproduct of the sauce??? And it was every scoop/forkful. It wasn't like there was a way to "eat around" it. I don't think I have anything good to say about the food. We had a few little fried things that were okay. Egg Rolls were basically empty. The fried cream cheese wonton things were fine. The crab sticks (imitation crab wrapped in fried wonton) were also fine, I guess, but not the sort of thing I'd order again. I guess the moral of the story is that this is a great restaurant to order from if you are sick--and also want food poisoning?

Its a privilege to know that this location is in my neighborhood. I feel proud to have such a great tasting Chinese spot to turn to. Parking could be a pain if they're crowded but they are organized and safe. CoVid protocols were enforced and the prices are very good for the amount of food the portion. They are very generous. The taste, the taste!! It's a non stop chew. The orange chicken was right on point. They sell Jalepeno chicken wings. They did not disappoint. They are awesome. Steamed rice was available which is awesome as well. I found this location through yelp and its a gem. I will DEFINITELY be back.

We had two orders of slippery shrimp, kung pao chicken, eggplants with hot and spicy garlic sauce, juicy steamed dumplings, and pork fried rice. Overall, both restaurants in Chinatown and Pasadena provide great food quality. The ambience was cozy with dim lighting. Our round table had a wooden rotating tray. They have pictures of celebrities and politicians who've visited their restaurant. Service was relatively quick, but there was a 20-minute wait for the dumplings. Valet parking can get difficult when the lot gets full. A few cars entering the narrow driveway had to reverse out of the way to let others leave. The kung pao chicken was very tasty with a good amount of spice. I noticed that the slippery shrimp didn't taste as spicy as the portion from Pasadena. Reviews say that the spice is adjustable. Regardless. it tasted great as it came right off the pan. The pork fried rice was delicious with a savory flavor that didn't seem overpowering. I thought the juicy steamed dumplings were the weakest dish out of our whole order. There wasn't enough flavor and heat from the broth. I didn't try much of the eggplants, but they tasted adequate for me.

Anything you can eat you any night you don't have to cook is usually a great night out. This evening was no exception. Our waitress was kind and accommodating. Positive energy, drinks filled and smile that felt genuine. The ambiance of the restaurant was bar like, but with adequate seating for dining in. Everything was prepared wonderfully and had tremendous flavor. I recommend trying their Hui Tou, stuffed with pork or beef, pork and leek pancakes, they also have vegetarian options. Their pork shumai was delicious, xiao long bao's soup dumplings were flavorful. Delicious. I definitely need a second trip here to try their soups and more of their variety of dumplings.

Our go-to dishes are the cucumber salad (refreshing and perfectly crunchy), green scallion pancakes (especially good with the chili sauce), pork shumai (better than Din Tai Fung imo), and the spicy pork wontons. On our most recent visit, we tried the sesame noodles, and I've been daydreaming about them ever since. The staff is always friendly and attentive, the vibes inside are great, and there's a solid drink selection with cocktails, draft beer, and bottled options. And the price point? Outrageously reasonable, especially in this economy. Consistently delicious food, great service, and incredible value. Highly recommend!

It also appeared to me that the food tasted slightly better at the Alhambra location, but that may very well have been my bias. The restaurant workers looked more organized vs this location that has more of a traditional Chinese vibe, slightly tired building, not particularly clean, service feels a bit rushed and sloppy. We went there for Thanksgiving Dinner and it wasn't packed but we went at the opening time and the people kept coming. 90% looked Chinese which also speaks for the authenticity.

The highlights of the night were the celery root blini with crème fraîche and Ossetra caviar, the trout tartare, the duck sausage, and the grilled short ribs. And a special shoutout to the fried boneless chicken leg -- it was goddamn delicious! The wine list is exciting. It has some hard-to-find aged bottles. We scored a bottle of 2007 François Cotat Sancerre. Cotat is one of the most iconic Sancerre producers, and because his wines are built to age, finding a 2007 vintage on the menu here was a massive treat. While we didn't dive into the proper cocktail menu, my partner ordered the non-alcoholic Hojicha Orange Milk Punch, which was phenomenal, and judging by how beautiful the drinks at neighboring tables looked, I'd assume their cocktail program is strong. Service was stellar. Lisa, who helped us navigate the wine list, was lovely! She was incredibly generous, offering us a few complimentary pours of other wines to taste. Will definitely revisit to try other menu items and their cocktails!
