With it being a Sunday, when calories don't count, especially when they come from a locally owned business... Of course I went and got two Macron's.! the raspberry which actually has the most delicious bit of raspberry compote inside and the birthday cake. I can't say enough about this place. I am so fortunate to live in old Orchard and have access to so many great local locally owned eateries. I wish I had taken a photo of the raspberry, but unfortunately, I took a bite and kept right on eating. You know it has to be good if the phone doesn't even get to eat first!

I asked for something oddly specific, a custom order, the kind of thing that usually makes bakers sigh. Instead? Perfect execution. Directions included. Actual instructions, like you were being handed a small machine built of butter and sugar. No other local baker has matched this level of service. It felt human. It felt rare. If you need a sweet thing for a special occasion, this is the place. Highly, extremely, unbelievably recommended.

So we ordered a little bit of everything. We got the chicken salad that I heard was really good. We got the gumbo which was the soup of the week during Mardi Gras time. I got some hot tea. I got some pound cake and some sweet potato pie. Now usually I don't order sweet potato pie from places because I'm almost always disappointed unless it's truly homemade like my grandma used to make. I have to say I was let down by this one. I kept trying to taste more of it to get some more flavor from it but it just was okay. I didn't finish the one slice that I got. The pound cake was okay again. My man loves chicken salad and they give you a nice Hefty portion here but he said it was way too many onions in there and he only ate maybe four or five bites before putting it in the fridge which is where it still is right now. The seafood gumbo was again average. My man says no comment lol but we go to New Orleans a few times a year just to eat. So this was a letdown for me. I didn't have anything great. I heard awesome things about this place. Maybe I'll come back and try the cookies but the desserts I tried here didn't do it for me and I wouldn't go out of my way for them.

My first thought was going to Strachn this late was probably not a good idea. When I pulled into the parking lot, there were several cars parked in front of the bakery, and a few more pulled in as I parked my vehicle and walked towards the door. Much to my surprise, there was still many selections displayed. I tried a couple new items - a cherry filled jelly donut and strawberry cinnamon roll. Both were quite good. The strawberry cinnamon roll was just a faint taste of strawberry as I was hoping for more. I was greeted by those behind the counter as I entered the bakery. Service was friendly and helpful. Small donut shop that is make a purchase and go = no tables inside or out. This bakery has been around for quite some time, and I think it has a lot to do with pricing and good tasting products.
