Many things have changed since then (several times even!) but somethings never change and that's that Molly's Cupcakes is still one of my favorite dessert spots! And how lucky am I to have easy access to them again as they've expanded and landed in my current home of Ann Arbor. I still love their filled cupcakes, favorites being the Ron Bennington (chocolate with peanut butter filling), the S'mores (a graham cake filled with chocolate ganache and topped with toasted marshmallow), and the Chocolate Decadence (chocolate filled with chocolate). However, they can be quite rich. Luckily their classic cupcakes (traditional cake and frosting) are still very decadent and satisfying. Of those I like the banana (with chocolate frosting) and vanilla with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Can't choose between several of the options? It's ok! They also have mini cupcakes so you can try several flavors to pick your favorites. I love that they're here and I am craving one BAD now! Alas they're closed for the day as of me writing this but I'm definitely inspired now to go grab another one as soon as they open tomorrow!

They did the cake for our wedding and cheesecake for the grooms "cake" (my husband's favorite). We had no issues and the cake was beautiful, exactly what we wanted. This was in 2017 haha. I only wish they were closer to my home, and I would order all the time, but honestly for special occasions I make the 40 minute drive! Call ahead to order and you won't be disappointed. I also had them do my gender reveal cake recently and it was cute and delicious. My SIL who isn't even a fan of chocolate was impressed and asked where it came from. I sent them the gender info via email and they were so kind coordinating what flavor cake we wanted with what would work to show off the color even doing a test run ahead of time with frosting and calling me back to let me know without ruining anything. You see horror stories online and they did such a good job! Very communicative via phone and email. Yum yum. Will be going back for my daughter's first birthday cake.

This is a real, longer…read moreferment sourdough with great stretch and delicious flavor and, most important of all, bothers my digestion less! We have driven up here from Ohio twice now, just for the bread! And even with all that, I managed to take zero pictures! It's a crime. This place deserves pictures. The breads, in particular, are gorgeous. We got sandwiches here once and they were both solid. We took them nextdoor to the park and had a delightful picnic. I tried to order the bacon cheddar grilled cheese, but they were out of bacon! I subbed turkey, asked for the mustard aioli (which it turned out was waaaaaay more mustard than aioli...maybe just straight mustard) on the side. I also asked them for a side of the fig spread they use on their brie sandwich and boy am I glad I did! It was great on this sandwich. The bread was their plain sourdough, which is predictably great. The Italian sandwich - this comes on the foccacia. This bites well, but it does not have any stretch to it. It's very soft, but also had a sort of grainy texture. It was a little messy from the Italian dressing, but otherwise it was a pretty decent cold cut sandwich. I might ask for it with a different bread in the future. Polish sausage pretzel dog - The polish sausage wasn't very flavorful, but it did the job. Would have liked more salt on the pretzel. Needed maybe a little longer in the oven, imo, but maybe that's so you can reheat at home without consequences. Took half of this one home to reheat and I can't say that went well, altho that's probably mostly on the toaster over we used, which was a hellbeast of inconsistent heatblasts. If you have more social machinery, ymmv on the reheating. Garlic cheese sticks - this is their light foccacia style bread, I think. It's pretty garlicky with a decent amount of cheese on it. We liked it but idk that we would get it again either. It was a decent little snack. We also got some coffees here, one iced mocha half sweet (it came possibly with whipped cream or cold foam on top, we couldn't tell which), and a Cafe Miel, hot. The mocha was solid, not too sweet, chocolatey & milky but the coffee taste still came thru. This would be way too sweet at full sweet, but half was great. The Miel was a nice blend of honey and cinnamon, but is also order that half sweet next time. It wasnt overwhelming, but I prefer my drinks less sweet. If that's you, too, also order everything half sweet here! They're very accommodating. Cakelettes in birthday cake and cookies & cream - I thought the cake on these were both really nice, great texture, moist. The chocolate one has a larger crumb and was more moist. The filling of the cookies & cream was outstanding. Basically crushed up oreos in whatever their buttercream is. The cake on this one was like a pie shell that they filled with icing, with an Oreo on top (which was soft from the refrigerated case). The birthday cake had more cake and less icing, more like a flat cupcake with icing on top. The flavor of the icing on that one was fine, but nothing special. My partner and I argued over whether the sprinkles made or ruined the experience, so just know that there are a decent amount of them on the edges of the icing and also lots baked into the cake itself and if you love em, great! If not...avoid. Staff recommendations were the Cherry Chip & Blueberry Lavender, but we tried neither on this trip. Funny enough, our favorite darn thing we've ever had here was a mistake item We came back here hoping to find them, but there were non, so we asked and learned the story of their Frankenstein birth! Apparently, when they make one of their regular menu items wrong, they have these leftover bits that they turn into Whoopie Pies. These are basically the cakelettes, but in a sandwich form. These hit me right in the childhood feels. A nostalgic flavor that sent me right back to my grandma's kitchen. Personally, I think they should be making this mistake full time and twice on Sundays. I would drive half an hour to relive my childhood flavor memories anytime.

Like most customers, I assumed the tips placed in those jars were going directly to the employees working behind the counter and making drinks during busy rushes. Finding out that employees reportedly do not directly receive those tips feels misleading and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The staff always seem to work incredibly hard, especially during rushes, and customers tip because they want to support THEM. If tip money is being used differently, customers deserve transparency about that. For me personally, this -- combined with other experiences that made me feel unwelcome -- has changed how I view the business entirely. I'll be choosing to support other local businesses moving forward.

Same sentiment for their vegan chocolate chip cookies and other vegan baked goods. Sad that I don't live in Michigan purely because I'm not near Bakehouse 46. All their cake and frosting flavors are thoughtfully curated. Some of them that are not the standard ones are switched out every month, including one new vegan flavor. During the month I was there, it was lavender which I was skeptical of but it was actually delicious! They have cute mini sized versions of I think most of their cupcakes too, which is so great! I heard their banana pudding is amazing and is a best-seller. Can't believe even their ice creams are so delicious! The vibe inside sitting down is cute and perfect to enjoy a sweet treat or chill, like any other cafe. Even the customers who come in know their stuff is so good and I noticed the store draws in quite a "sweet" intersection of people. I think I actually witnessed the customer interaction right below this but imo I thought they were being kind of unfair and entitled, so this seems like an anomaly, because the desserts are truly wonderful as I saw other customers also found. The girl who worked the shift when I used to go in -- I had gotten her name but have forgotten it now -- was so sweet and good at her job! If you have allergies or restrictions, like gluten or dairy free, this bakery is very accommodating and a must-try; but even otherwise this bakery is worth going out of your way to try!

She claimed they had extra frosting because they had more than what was in the case, which was literally a star dot of frosting. I can't believe how downhill the cupcakes have gone since they bought out Cupcake Station. Cupcake Station would be ashamed of what this has become. The cupcakes were a melted mess. Girl at the counter claimed that she could not give us extra frosting or a refund. I took them because I had used my birthday reward and she couldn't answer whether I would get that back, but I shouldn't have because I'm not gonna eat those or show them to anyone else. They should be embarrassed to put out products like that. If you are going to have only one person working, they should have the knowledge and authority to do everything that comes with running a store. I'm done with this place. $40 for that!!
