All the sweet treats at this bakery are delicious -- their vegan cupcakes are the best I've ever had!! Very rare to find great vegan cupcakes -- I have no idea how they do them justice. Same sentiment for their vegan chocolate chip cookies and other vegan baked goods. Sad that I don't live in Michigan purely because I'm not near Bakehouse 46. All their cake and frosting flavors are thoughtfully curated. Some of them that are not the standard ones are switched out every month, including one new vegan flavor. During the month I was there, it was lavender which I was skeptical of but it was actually delicious! They have cute mini sized versions of I think most of their cupcakes too, which is so great! I heard their banana pudding is amazing and is a best-seller. Can't believe even their ice creams are so delicious! The vibe inside sitting down is cute and perfect to enjoy a sweet treat or chill, like any other cafe. Even the customers who come in know their stuff is so good and I noticed the store draws in quite a "sweet" intersection of people. I think I actually witnessed the customer interaction right below this but imo I thought they were being kind of unfair and entitled, so this seems like an anomaly, because the desserts are truly wonderful as I saw other customers also found. The girl who worked the shift when I used to go in -- I had gotten her name but have forgotten it now -- was so sweet and good at her job! We got the mini cupcakes for our date night and they were so cute! I didn't realize Bakehouse 46 had SO many flavors. It was fun to choose from the wide selection they had. The cupcakes were unfortunately a bit underwhelming. The frosting was very sweet and some of the cake a bit dry. I would try it again though because we went during the polar vortex and it might've been hard to keep that big of a selection fresh. read more

Sad excuse for cupcakes with "extra" frosting. They have less than the business owner photo with the regular amount of frosting some years ago. She claimed they had extra frosting because they had more than what was in the case, which was literally a star dot of frosting. I can't believe how downhill the cupcakes have gone since they bought out Cupcake Station. Cupcake Station would be ashamed of what this has become. The cupcakes were a melted mess. Girl at the counter claimed that she could not give us extra frosting or a refund. I took them because I had used my birthday reward and she couldn't answer whether I would get that back, but I shouldn't have because I'm not gonna eat those or show them to anyone else. They should be embarrassed to put out products like that. I don't travel to Ann Arbor often, but I've heard good things about the small businesses. I stopped in for cupcakes in the middle of the day. The staff worker did not acknowledge me when I came in, waited by the cupcakes and even walked down to where she was. It was clear that she was working on paperwork of some kind, but heard the door open. She didn't acknowledge the wait or anything. It was a poor experience starting off. I picked two cupcakes because I was already there and wanted some for the road. Checking out what still lackluster. There were some college students behind me who asked her about some special. One that she never mentioned or even asked if I wanted to partake in. The young lady with the nose rings needs training on customer service. It was disappointing and fizzled my excitement for the $4+ cupcakes. I've had much better service at the Grosse Pointe location. read more

It's a very small place right in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor. You could miss it if your not paying attention. The server was very patient with me because I was super indecisive. But I ended up ordering the turtle cheesecake bar and the apple pie donut. The cheesecake bar was so delicious it took me a few days to finish it lol but it tasted just like a turtle in cheesecake form. Headed in early on a Sunday morning looking for a breakfast roll of some kind. Bakehouse 46 is not a place for that. They specialize in cupcakes, it seems, and cookies, ice cream, and donuts are on offer, along with some small sweets I wasn't familiar with. I got donuts, which are breakfasty enough in my book. Theirs are cider-mill style, available plain or coated in cinnamon sugar. There are also "apple pie" donuts and a couple of other creative varieties, and I might have gone for one but didn't know if the toppings would hold up on the way home. Adults of a certain age may remember the old Mervyn's commercial where folks stood at the doors of the store before hours, pressed against the glass, and chanted "OPEN OPEN OPEN." This was me with Bakehouse 46. No joke, I called them several times to see if they were finally open. And eventually, they were! Hooray! We've done delivery 3 times (it's cold out there, y'all!) and each time has been fantastic. We've done cider and donuts, bagel sandwiches (my fave is the breakfast bagel with egg, bacon, cheese, and cream cheese. Decadent but so so good), general desserts, and mini cupcakes and it's all been excellent. I've also ordered coffees/lattes/mochas with each order and they've arrived to my house delicious and with a sticker over the lid to prevent spillage. Love the attention to detail. Prices are right and delivery times are speedy. Yesterday they were 15 minutes early! I look forward to popping in next time I'm downtown but they're definitely firmly in my weekend breakfast delivery rotation! read more

I like all of the food at Bakehouse. The cupcakes are good, and I like that they rotate. They have yummy donuts and even frozen cider on tap. They make their baked goods fresh every day. I guess I haven't gotten used to the higher food costs since covid because they seem pricey to me. I am just still longing for pricing that businesses were able to offer in 2019. Their customer service is a little iffy from time to time. They have a new customer reward system that is a pain to set up, and not all of their employees know how it works because I thought I was getting points when I wasn't. I was visiting Ann Arbor for the weekend and my friend recommended me this place. Decided to gave it a try and IT WAS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED during my trip! we got to try the 12 mini cupcakes, a cheesecake bar and cold brew w foam! Out of all the cupcake flavors, campfire (smores) was my favorite! The texture of the cupcake js so soft and the Graham cracker topping added more texture to the cupcake! The cold brew was also delicious! They have 2 different types of foam available: honey lavender and vanilla. The consistency of the foam is a lot dense compared to other coffee shop foams, but I thought it paired really well with the coffee. I would recommend the foam to anyone who likes sweeter coffee! The staffs are super friendly and helpful. The inside of the cafe is a bit small, but thankfully it was not crowded when we visited. We ordered Bakehouse 46 for delivery today to celebrate a coworker's birthday, and it was a hit! Delivery was prompt, and we couldn't wait to devour into six different cupcakes, each piled high with frosting or toppings. The Samoa flavor has been a favorite of mine for years, since this place was the Cupcake Station. We all loved the German Chocolate cake and PB&C (Peanut Butter & Chocolate) as well! The Winter Mint, Mom's Pecan Roll, and Milk & Cookies flavors all looked so enticing, but it was too much sugar for our dental office to handle... I came to Bakehouse 46 towards the end of the workday at a time when it was not busy--only two customers were present and at the cash register when I came in. I was not greeted and, in fact, was simply stared at by one of the two employees working at that time. This worker did not say anything to me so I initiated my own order of 2 cupcakes and a half dozen donuts. I came to the cashier to pay at which point the second worker asked if I would like a bag for my cupcakes (to which I accepted). After paying, I had to reach across the counter to grab my bag--there was no effort or movement to hand it to me, or to even slide it 6 inches forward across the threshold of worker to customer. It was not until I got home that I realized this bag did not include my half dozen donuts which would have been in their own separate bag and likely even further into the service counter area. i think this omission would have been obvious to the workers, yet there was no effort to call out to me as I was leaving (and, again, no effort to put the bag of donuts into the main bag, or to even slide both bags towards me during check out). read more

Wish negative stars were possible. Ordered cupcakes for our son's first birthday away from home at UMich as a surprise. Paid extra for having them shipped to his dorm for 1:00pm. At 4:30 our son said he didn't receive anything. Called Bakehouse and they said, yes they are sitting right here. Asking why they weren't delivered, the MANAGER said I don't know, we don't have control over that and I don't know how it works. WTH, you offer delivery on your website, charge extra, but don't know how it works or what to do when it was never picked up. Eventually decided to just cancel the order and the manager said well it could take up to 25 days to get your money back, again WTH. Needless to say we will never use this place again and warn others not to either. This place literally ruined our only really surprise we had for his birthday and we feel like terrible parents for not getting our son "a sweet" for his birthday. read more

Definitely one of my go-to spots if I wanted to have some tea with a friend or visiting family, or just treat myself to something special. I've tried the chocolate-covered cheesecake (it was on a stick, very rich), and the mini-cupcakes (very flavorful; I think it's a bit expensive but it's the perfect amount as someone who doesn't want to overload on sugar). Most importantly though, I love Bakehouse 46's cider donuts (plain, sugared, all of them)! Ever since Cupcake Station closed I've been eagerly waiting (and hoping) my cupcake fix could be replaced by this shop. Today I had my chance to test it out, and was so happy to see my Cupcake Station favs in place (and dare I say even better than I remembered?!). Staff is friendly, the decor is really cute, and I love that we now have an eye into the bakery itself. The new menu looks really good and I can't wait to get back and try some real food in addition to my fav cupcakes. All the bakery items looked really good and it was a challenge not to indulge more than I did on the mini cupcakes alone. We went with a half dozen minis, original, chocolate, cookies and cream, and peanut butter. And they were all delicious. The only downside I see here is the high ticket price for them...6 for almost $12. The minis are small (less than half the size of a regular) and I feel like the price should reflect that (ie be less than half the cost). But then again, I'm still paying to eat them at $12, so what can I really say about it? read more

All the baked goods were beautiful in the shop and the employees were friendly and helpful, but the two things I tried both left me underwhelmed. I had the cheesecake with blueberries and banana pudding. The cheesecake was smooth and creamy, but the white chocolate topping was completely hard which made it difficult to eat - and isn't my favorite flavor. The banana pudding was light and fluffy but didn't have much flavor, it seemed like it had far too much whipped cream. Tried on both of our phones and laptops and on doordash and grubhub. Called and politely asked if we could order delivery over the phone and the woman was so beyond rude and hung up on us (10/28). We had a terrible experience at 1:00pm on 9/16/2023. The sequence of events was: 1. We place our order of two breakfast sandwich + coffee + donut combos. We are told that we cannot have an iced latte with the combo and instead must have cold brew, despite the fact that they both cost $6 on the menu. This makes no sense. 2. After placing our order and sitting down, the kind but confused employee who took our order came over three times to ask clarifying questions, completely unable to keep our simple order straight. 3. The cold brew coffees come. The "cold foam" was completely curdled and disintegrated. I kindly asked the blonde employee if we could have the cold brew without the cold foam and she acted very rude about giving us new coffees as if we should just drink the bad foam. I'll add that the cold brew was basically glorified water; you couldn't taste the coffee at all. 4. One of the speciality donuts we ordered was stale. 5. After waiting 25 minutes in a store that wasn't busy and watching our food sit there unserved for five minutes, we finally get our breakfast sandwiches. My partly-warmed breakfast sandwich was refrigerator-cold in the middle. So much for it being "made-to-order" like the menu claimed. The only redeeming item was the frozen cider, which despite being an overpriced glorified slurpee was tasty. I love the concept of this place and the inside is cute, but the execution was terrible. The employee running the cash register was confused and apathetic while the blonde employee who made the food was downright rude. The terrible coffee and cold sandwich is enough reason to not return, but the horrendous service left us truly dejected. O STARS. Placed a Valentine's Day order for one dozen cookies - half chocolate chip (the whole purpose of the order was for chocolate chip cookies), and half assorted to be delivered to my daughter on campus (I live in California) via DoorDash for $43. She received zero chocolate chip cookies; the cookies she received were dry, bland and tasteless. All efforts to remedy the error with Bakehouse 46 were met with total lack of care and a buyer beware attitude (they ran out of chocolate chip cookies, so they notified DoorDash at pick up and told them to ask my daughter for permission to swap these out; these were a surprise gift to her so she had no idea how to respond; she was put on the spot and didn't have a choice). The cookies she received were super expensive, tasteless and a waste of money. Bakehouse 46 refused to offer store credit or any refund. They blamed DoorDash and my daughter for the end result and did not offer any sort of apology or remedy. Terrible customer service, terrible quality. Buyer beware. read more
